S L Hofser of east of Upper Sandusky and Miss Shirley Albright near Nevada were united in marriage on Saturday July 4. The report notes a blend of communities and family roots in Wyandot County alongside other local events and obituaries.
The seventy six birthday anniversary was celebrated Sunday at her home north of Springville with a dinner and music for fifty eight guests. Attendees included A R Herbert and family, Bristoll family of Wharton, Hemmerley family, Blinn, Schubert, Presler, Herbert and others from Alvada, Fostoria, Carey, and Springville.
On Tuesday around five pm a loud thunderclap and electrical display centered near Carey northwest edge. Plaster fell from John Pahl’s North Vance street home. Mrs Yohe and her son Virgil saw fire rain and smoke. Mr Ruffing saw a ground fire ball. Porcelain plant workers believed a house burned.
H. 8. Phelps of Toledo was in town Sunday for undisclosed engagements, according to local observers.
After forty years Mr and Mrs William Stout of Marion Kentucky visit brother C H Stout and wife in the city. They left June 9 for Louisville and Cincinnati then Lima and Bluffton. They arrived July 13 and plan further visits to Forest Kenton Chicago and Evanston before returning to Marion via Evansville.
The Woman's Home Missionary Society of the M. E. church met last Thursday with Mrs. John McGuire. Discussion centered on Work in the Southland. Bible lessons and readings were given by Mrs. McGuire and several others, with a Marion convention report and a quartet providing music. The August meeting is planned with Mrs. J. C. Dow.
The Wyandot Rural Letter Carriers Association met at the courthouse in Upper Sandusky on Saturday evening July 11 and elected G. H. Koons of Sycamore as president, L. G. Walberry of Upper Sandusky as vice president, and Alva Criger of Carey as secretary and treasurer. Koons and Criger were chosen delegates to the state convention in Newark July 14 15 and 16.
The city council met Monday with members Wonder Angus Ryder Heck Dunlap and Blue present. Bills were paid to laborers, coal suppliers, sewer work and street repairs totaling several dollars. A Pittsburg bank location study favored Cleveland, with no action. Resolutions approved sewer and paving projects and a request for a new village map. Four new bathrooms were being installed in the Galt House.
Policeman Al Corwin with Gra ham Buckland and a traveler pursued and captured Tommy Boutson at Kramer’s corner north of town in a Baughman and Stevens auto. Boutson, once in Carey, had returned to town and stolen chickens to raise funds. He tried to flee in a horse rig from Mrs. Merle Corfman and Mrs. Cecil Yambert, was caught by an auto north of town, and jailed after a Saturday hearing with $600 bail. He also attempted to break jail Friday afternoon, gnawing at a floor hole and tearing bricks before a passer-by halted him.
Miss Ethel Stahl honor guest of Mr and Mrs I L Culler with a Friday evening park spread. Attending were Mr and Mrs E B Kurtz Mr and Mrs Fred Rowalt Dr and Mrs R C Van Buren Mr and Mrs Byron Ogg Mr and Mrs W H Houk Mr and Mrs J D Ewe ing Mr and Mrs W J Newhard and Mr and Mrs S M Ranger.
Hayes Greer of Bluffton purchased the 28 acre Ewing home property north of town from the late Miss Sadie Ewin for 125 dollars per acre. He plans to move his family here about the first of the year.
