William R. Zierolf, 50, died July 7 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital after a cancer illness dating from June 27. Born March 27, 1916 in Findlay, he was active with Our Lady of Consolation, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Eagles, Moose and Elks. Survived by wife Barbara exline two daughters and several siblings. services held at Our Lady of Consolation Church with burial in St Marys Cemetery. He was remembered for his community devotion and Scout work.

Lightning Fire Destroys Barn and Shed Near Wharton
A lightning strike during a northern Ohio thunderstorm set a barn and machine shed ablaze at the Gilbert Vent farm five miles southeast of Wharton. Firefighters from Wharton Carey and Upper Sandusky fought the blaze about two hours, destroying a 38 by 8 foot barn and a 16 by 3 percent foot shed with machinery including a combine corn picker hay baler drill tractor and cultivators. The fire disrupted telephone service and the total loss was not estimated but partly insured.

Thomas Lanning Thomas, grandson of Cloyce Lanning, earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Ohio State University in June with summa cum laude honors. A thunderstorm crashed through Wyandot County early Sunday wrecking a 36 by 50 foot barn on Kermit Moses farm four miles south of Con. Co. Rd. 97. The blaze destroyed 100 bales hay 50 bales straw 11 sheep and several pieces of equipment. insurance covered part of the loss.

The Carey Board of Education approved a General Fund budget of 445 210 for 1967 an increase of 2210 over 1966. They discussed additional revenue for 1967 and will review it at the August meeting. A 03 mill request for a ten year library operation fund was also tabled for August. The board set a conference with Region 16 transportation officials to discuss 1966 67 bus needs and accepted resignations and teaching contracts for three teachers. Released time for religious instruction was approved for Tuesday afternoons from Sept 20 1966 to March 14 1967. The auditorium was authorized for a pancake cooking school sponsored by Carey Times date unspecified.
