Carey suffers a 3 to 0 loss to Cardington with weak hitting and nine scattered hits. Dick Lab pitched well for Cardington while Carey mustered only five hits and stranded runners.
The annual ice cream social will be held at the Methodist church on Wednesday July 20 at 5 00 pm. Chicken hamburger hot dog sandwiches ice cream cake pie lemonade coffee and popcorn will be served. The public is invited.
Leo J. Bernard left Sunday for Chicago to attend the Furniture Mart display of furniture and household furnishings in the interest of Bernard Furniture Store.
E T Holt sold a 5383 acre farm located 2 miles southeast of Carey to Leo Brodman who will take possession by January and plans to make his home on the property.
Mr and Mrs Dale Leichty arrive home east of Mt Blanchard after treatment at Warm Springs Georgia since January 20 for poliomyelitis. His condition has improved and he can walk with braces and crutches using prescribed exercises. A four month check up is planned at Warm Springs. He was stricken last August and spent weeks in an iron lung. He is son in law of Mr and Mrs Eugene Hendricks of Vantlue.
Mr and Mrs Frank Sullemberger near Alvada celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday July 17 at the summer home of their son in law and daughter Willis Philips 444 miles northwest of Carey A family dinner will be served at noon and an open house for friends and relatives from 2 to 5 pm They were married in Fostoria July 18 1899 by the late Rev Poucher They have three children Clyde and Roy Sullemberger and Mrs Phillips seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren Attending guests include Mrs Myrtle Liutterbein Clyde Crawford Tom Crawford William Crawford and Rev and Mrs Howard McCracken of West Independence U B Church.
June Hill daughter of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hill leaves Monday to attend the central regional meeting of the Future Homemakers of America in Columbus July 12 14 Columbus chosen as one of four sites for regional gatherings this year F H A with over 260 000 members held its first national convention in Kansas City last July about 3500 girls and advisors are expected to attend the regional meetings June will be in Carey high school junior class this fall.
Twelve piano students of Sister Mamelda earned high honors for rhythm position and attendance in the first six weeks of summer vacation. Named are Helen Altman Darrell Cole Margaret Deer Mary Alice Dibie Deanna Greer Susanne Greer Kerry Lee Hall Barbara Jacoby Jean Jacoby Andyth Orians Barbara Riester and Linda Treece. Donna Lou Ward and Judy Markley noted for rhythm and attendance while William Welsh tied for position and attendance. Kerry Lee Hall and Barbara Riester memorized three solos. Helen Altman Barbara Jacoby Judy Markley and Kay Saunders memorized two selections each.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will gather this Thursday at 8:00 in the church basement. Hostesses include Mrs Bulmer Harshberger Mrs Harry Fetterg and Mrs W I Moore. A good attendance is urged.

Elmer W Paul will speak at First Methodist Church this Sunday July 17 during the 10 45 morning worship hour. He is the new administrator of Flower Hospital Toledo arriving from Chicago as a trained hospital administrator. Flower Hospital serves the northwestern Ohio Methodist community. Wallace Dibble lay leader will read the worship service.
The 8th annual stag party and chicken dinner of Earl Green post No. 344, American Legion, will be held Thursday afternoon and evening July 21 at the Wyandot county fairgrounds in Upper Sandusky. The event will proceed rain or shine.

Private First Class Willard E. Boyce of Carey received an Honorable Mention in the All-Japan Arts and Crafts contest run by the U S Army special services. He later won fourth place among Far East Command entries spanning Okinawa Korea Guam and other outposts. Lt Colonel Raymond J. Lewis presented a woodworking tools set in Tokyo where Boyce serves. All winning entries advance to the All-Army finals in Washington D C.
The Carey Conservation League board and committees met Friday July 8 with near full attendance impressed by president Harry Myers. Harold McKinnon was elected hunting committee chair and W. J. Ogg to lead the fishing committee. July 28 set for the next social. New metal game refuge signs arrive. a free rat control service for farmers is under study. a membership drive is planned. the league thanks supporters.
All lockers at Carey Cooperative Food Lockers Inc are rented and in use per manager Gottfried. A waiting list exists and plans are under study to add ten more lockers. Over five tons of fruit and vegetables were frozen in June, with many smaller amounts stored in patron home units. Higher meat storage results from year round slaughter not limited to cold weather. The curing department, added last winter, has performed well and requires weekly operation.

St Josephs parish in Salem marks its centennial on Sunday July 24 with a 10 a m Mass presided by Bishop Karl Alter of Toledo. The day includes a centennial address, clergy dinner at Pilgrim House Carey and laity luncheon on church grounds. The history traces back to 1849 with Bishop Rappe, growth to the current edifice completed in 1894 and recent redecorations. The 10 a m Mass will feature celebrant Very Reverend Wenceslaus Hertvik and Friars Minor Conventual with deacon Fr Lawrence Martin and deacon cub Fr Claude Mussel, followed by a 2:30 p m Solemn Benefaction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Carey fire department responded to Carl Brown's farm southwest of Carey where a buckrake caught fire. The blaze damaged the steering, ignition, and wiring of the homemade machine, likely due to a broken gas line. A hose test siren was sounded Monday evening.
Solomon Ruffing has purchased the Eunice Converse estate home on W North Street formerly occupied by Mr and Mrs Bernard Jacob and family. His son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs Joseph Ruffing and their 7 month old son Jimmy Joe will move in soon.
