Senate rejects Cummins Simmons amendments to Canadian reciprocity bill
In Washington on July 11 the Senate voted down the Cummins and Simmons amendments to the Canadian reciprocity bill. Simmons delivered the principal speech denouncing the pact as partly protection and partly free trade with no revenue tariff. Fire destroys barns and hay at A Hoy farm
A. Hoy on the Fourth suffered a serious loss by fire at his farm in Trumbull county. The renter was unloading hay when a thunder storm came up and he went to the house, leaving everything at the barns in good order. A few hours later one barn was found to be in flames and the building was destroyed, together with thirteen tons of hay. There was no insurance to cover the loss.
