Despite no current inductions, 18 year olds must register with the selective service on their 18th birthday. If the birthday is on a weekend or holiday, registration occurs the next business day. Wyandot County board office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday except holidays.
Carey Ohio village council met January 20 with full attendance. A resolution commending Chesapeake & Ohio for installing flashers at N Patterson street was approved. Ed Campbell won a $105 bid to paint the municipal building interior. The pavilion and waterworks park lease was declined to keep facilities open to all. A report on Carey Memorial park was presented and will be merged into the city manager's annual report. Findlay Street curb and sidewalk work was discussed to precede state resurfacing. Ordinance 362 licenses bicycles with 50 cent total cost for two years, effective March 1. Owners will need serial numbers and full bicycle descriptions. Council invited the letter signer M. C. to February 3 meeting. Adjourned 10:20 p.m.
Sgt Wagner of the army recruiting station will be in his Wyandot county courthouse office Tuesday and Friday each week. Anyone needing information and unable to meet during hours should drop him a card and he will visit the applicant where and when convenient.
Mr and Mrs Fredrick Rife sold their 60 acre farm located 3% miles northeast of Carey. B G Kauffihan bought 20 acres and Bert Mick bought 40 acres. The Rifes will move March 1 to the Charles A Wentz farm 544 miles northwest of Carey.
Ralph Kromer son of Mrs Clara Kromer of N Lake street enlisted in the US Army for 1 1 years. He was sworn in Monday January 27 at Fort Hayes Columbus and left Monday evening for Fort Bragg North Carolina.
The O K of O will meet this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at Cyril Collet's home northeast of Carey. Installation of officers will be held with Charles Kinn serving as Treasurer.
Donald Keller and Earl Buckingham form a roofing partnership in Carey and operate as Carey Paint and Roofing Co. with offices at 223 E Findlay St. The firm offers metal gravel composition and built up roofs, damp-proofing basements, and takes orders for spring and summer work.
Principal I. EB Mulholland lists high school honor roll students across grades Seniors through Freshmen, including Alene Hoepf Arlene Longanecker Nancy Montague and many others. Col Crawford Elementary lists grades 1 to 6 with numerous pupils named for the honor roll.
Carey defeated Richwood 49 to 38 after trailing 19 to 16 at halftime. Ying Ling led Carey with 8 points as the reserves beat Richwood reserves 20 to 13. Carey also beat St. Joe 44 to 29 with Dennison scoring 24 points, his seventh game lead. Reserves added a 24 to 22 win over St. Joe reserves.
Carey Kiwanis Club met at Trubey's restaurant with Alden J. Smith of Porcelain Products as guest. W J Heard, Carey village manager, presented a preview of a comprehensive report on municipal services, projects, and plans for the coming year. February program duties assigned to the reception and house committee: Harry Bristolf, E. T Drum gold, and Charles Gibbins.
A good attendance was present at last week's meeting of the W. B. A. The auction sale after the lodge netted $7.00. All officers and members are urged to attend this Friday evening January 31 at 8 15. A potluck supper will follow the business meeting to honor January birthdays and anniversaries. Entertainment will be provided by the committee.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet this Thursday evening at 7 30 o clock with Mrs Grant Johnson on Toledo street. Mrs Nora Rangeler and Miss Viola Tyson will be assisting hostesses.
The West building reports honor roll recipients across grades. An invitational basketball tournament will be held February 2 9 and 16 at the Catholic hall. Teams include Carey Essos Carey Porcelain Arli n ex-Highs Wharton ex-Highs Findlay Point Service Marseilles Legion naires Fostoria V F W and Mt Blanchard ex-Highs. Games start at 1 30 p m with admission 15 or 35 cents.
A Carey Farmers Community club meeting was held Monday at the K of C hall with strong attendance. J A Vaughn led the program, Joan Cole sang with Jo Anne Frazier at the piano. Paul and Dean Powell presented motion pictures from trips across eastern and western states, and J A Vaughn showed Japanese souvenirs. The next meeting will be moved up one week and hosted by the executive committee at the Catholic parish hall for the annual ladies night banquet. DELMER LORTZ secretary-treasurer.
Rev W A Bartges a missionary to China of the Evangelical United Brethren church speaks at Memorial Church tonight at 7 30. He and his wife were prisoners in Japanese camps after Pearl Harbor and share experiences from the war. Public invited by Pastor B L Lee.
The Carey Band Mothers club hosts a benefit card party at Carey High School on Monday evening February 3. Solicitors canvass homes to sell tickets for pinochle euchre and bridge with prizes for winners. Proceeds fund new band uniforms and donations are welcomed.
Crawford township committeemen of the AAA will be at the Carey public library February 5 and 6 from 12 noon until 9 pm each day so farmers may sign up for their 1947 soil building program. If a farmer misses these days he must apply personally at the AAA office in Upper Sandusky before March 1. W. A. Vaughn Chairman Township Committee.
Carey lodge No 1607 Loyal Order of Moose will initiate a new class on Thursday evening January 30 at 8 o'clock. Members who have not yet been initiated are requested to attend and complete the initiatory work. The degree staff of the local lodge will conduct the initiation. J L Smith, Chairman.
The Youth Fellowship of First Methodist Church hosts a box social at the church on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock. A cake walk and a short program will accompany the event. The public is invited.
The Boy Scouts of Carey announce a paper drive this Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00. Please place papers ready for collection. Scout Troops 51 and 13 involved.
Rev F B Herbert left Tuesday on his return to Lancaster after spending several months in Carey. He plans to make his home in Lancaster for the immediate future.

First Lieutenant Donald E B Hendricks U S Marine Corps received the Silver Star posthumously. The award, presented January 16 at the Hendricks home in Vanlue to his parents by Major F A Dinand, honors his heroism on March 10 1945 when he directed a tank assault to neutralize enemy fortifications at Iwo Jima before being mortally wounded. His actions allowed Allied infantry to advance and contributed to the battle’s outcome.
A mid winter frolic at Moose hall on Thursday evening February 6 features Irven Cain and his Orchestra with floor show dancing and a fish fry. The event is for Moose members and their families only with admission 50c per member or 1.00 per family. Admission includes all you want to eat refreshments and entertainment.
Legion members are urged to attend Sunday afternoon activities and bring a candidate for initiation. The event targets all members and emphasizes inviting prospective new participants.
A second blood typing session will be held Thursday evening February 20 with a Findlay hospital representative in attendance. The event will include additional entertainment.
A first degree initiation will be held Sunday afternoon February 23. All candidates who have not yet received the initiation are requested to be present.
The Rev Wade H Koons will attend a convocation at Wittenberg College in Springfield next Thursday to hear Dr Martin Niemoeller of Germany. Niemoeller, a prominent Evangelical Lutheran leader, opposed Nazi religious teachings and was imprisoned during much of World War II. He travels the United States on a speaking tour supported by the Federal Council of Churches and the National Lutheran Council.
Adrian Lab son of Felix and Mrs Lab from Akron formerly Carey and Cpl Harold McLoughlin son of Francis and Mrs McLoughlin Carey received discharges on December 27 and 28 after 21 months in amphiblougy engineers. They served in Korea and Japan. Adrian studies machine shop at Howard vocational school Akron and visited his sister Mrs Clyde Roszman in Tiffin over the weekend.

Swan Rubber Co announces expansion at its Carey and Bucyrus plants. Carey adds a 60 by 180 foot two story brick glass building with dining area and offices, completion expected in March, plus a 13 000 square foot storage warehouse and 25 new jobs for a total of 260. Carey capacity to 20 000 small tires and 110 000 feet of tireing daily. Bucyrus plans a four story hose plant shifting other activities to Carey. Current hose output is about 300 000 feet daily, rising to 400 000 feet.

James Long, Farm Bureau field man from Crawford County, will speak at the Wyandot County meeting on Monday evening February 3 in the Farm Bureau hall in Upper Sandusky. Mrs Virgil Will and Mrs Henry Schilling, directors from Upper Sandusky, have prepared an entertainment program. All Farm Bureau members and friends are invited.
The American Legion Auxiliary Earl Greenpost No 344 hosts the third of four benefit card parties at the Legion rooms on Tuesday February 11 at 8 oclock. Mrs Harold Shue chairs and Miss Caroleen Dow assists. Prizes await winners and refreshments will be served.
A chop suey supper and card party will be held at the Knights of Columbus hall on Sunday evening February 9 at 6:00 for members of the C L of C and their husbands or a friend. Attendees should notify Miss FloRene Ruffing or Mrs Maurice Gaster promptly.
Round and square dancing every Saturday night with music and caller by William Dickey and orchestra of Upper Sandusky. Secretary B C Meek signed the notice.
