Carey girls upset Bloomdale 27 26 with Wentling sealing victory on a late free throw. Bloomdale struggled from long range as Carey attacked the basket, leading 19 16 at halftime and 27 26 at the final buzzer.

Births Reported Across Several Families in Community

A series of birth notices from the area lists new arrivals including a 7% pound daughter to the Mohlers on West Findlay Street and a 9%4 pound son to the McLoughlins on North Vance Street. Additional births include twins to the Adelspergers north of Alvada, a 7% pound daughter Donna Jean to the Boffs of Akron, a daughter to the Schmidts in Fostoria, and a 10 pound son to the Krupps north of town along with a daughter to the Hunters on Findlay Street.

Legion Auxiliary elects secretary and plans Feb dinner

At the American Legion Auxiliary meeting Mrs Cc C Simonis was chosen secretary to fill a vacancy left by Miss Florence Schira. A tureen dinner is set for Monday Feb 27 at 6 30 in conjunction with the regular meeting. Later cards and a social hour followed with penny beano. Toledo district group meeting attendance reported

Mrs. H. M. Pennington reported her brother-in-law Gilbert Pennington has died in Grand Lodge Michigan at age seventy and after five months of paralysis illness.

Death of Isadore Billock in Carey area obituary note

Isadore Billock died at his nephew Frank Kitaler’s home on Frederick Street Friday night at 8 50 due to complications after a stroke. Born June 5 1861 in Salem Township to Benedict and Margaret Billock he lived in Carey most of his life. Surviving are a sister Mrs Fannie Calmes and several brothers and sisters including Mary Kitzler and Louise Bakies. Funeral at Our Lady of Consolation Church conducted by Rev Fr Edwin Borntrager with burial in St Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews including John Billock Aloysius McLoughlin and Francis Kitzler.

Local Man Obtains Patent For Bottle Opener

Washington patent lawyer Clarence A. O'Brien reports Samuel Gunther a city mail carrier has been awarded US letters patent for a clever bottle opener. Filed March 15 1932 and issued January 17 1933 the device uses a cap and cup to deflect splashing liquid into a pan as bottles are opened promising economical manufacture.

Venable to Preach at Christ Church Sunday Evening

Rev Charles L Venable pastor of First Lutheran Dayton will preach at Christ Lutheran Church Sunday at 7 30 PM. He spoke at Carey church last winter drawing a large audience. He authored The Threshhold of the Temple and is the first outside speaker in the Preaching Mission led by Rev Paul R Clouser.

Railroad men hear talks on regulation and subsidies

About 102 attendees gathered at Moose Hall Monday for a Carey Railroad Men's Association meeting. C A Baddur, J Cintonaty, and Mr Radford spoke on state regulation and subsidies for trucks and buses, airport importance, and the effect of laws on interstate business. Local deputy enforcement in Summit county yielded about 9000 in fines from 200 trucks. 320 violation points were found.

Post Office Name Change to Carey Ohio Reported

A June 19, 1848 communication from the United States Post Office Department to the Mad River and Lake Erie Railroad Co. announces the Crawford Ohio post office on Route 2206 will be renamed Carey and Abraham Myers appointed as postmaster. The service begins April 1. Abraham Myers was a relative of local residents Clara Beitler and Mattie Myers.

County to Pay Crow Bounty Certificates

Due to scarce funds no cash bounties were paid in 1932 for crow heads. Certificates were issued on receipt of heads. The county allotted 200 for certificate exchanges, and Township Clerk C. C. Thome has received checks to swap for the certificates issued. No further appropriations will be made after the 200 is used.

Hospital Visit Ties Family to Toledo Kidney Operation

E. C. Harshberger and Mrs. P. C. Goff travel to Toledo to support Mrs. Harshberger as she undergoes a kidney operation at Flower Hospital at 9 30. Her daughter Miss Miriam, a Flower hospital training school graduate, accompanies them.

Carey Kiwanis heard Arthur Brown address the club at Monday’s meeting. Brown spoke on Appreciating the Beautiful in Rural Life as part of a Future Farmers Association of America public speaking contest. The gathering showed strong attendance and featured songs, a piano duet, and plans for town publicity signs and a report on Carey Kiwanis past achievements.

The Young Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation church will host a supper at the parish hall from 5:60 until 8:00 Tuesday evening, January 31. Village Board Advances Bond Buyback and Rate Cut Plan

The Board of Public Affairs approved purchasing 7 water and light bonds, retiring 33 this month. Since 1920 the village issued 117 500 dollars in bonds to build electric and water works. The board aims to save substantial interest by reducing debt and plans to cut electric rates on April 1.

Reelected president Ervin Wentling leads Crawford township trustees and clerks at Upper Sandusky gathering. Paul Konkle of Sycamore elected secretary. Trustees John S. Fox G. E B. Greer and clerk C. C. Thome attend. Joe R. Thomas of Hayesville speaks on township government and possible legislation changes. A proposal would divert fas tax funds from townships. Over four years six thousand two hundred ten dollars was allotted to township use to aid farmers in mud removal.

Death of Patrick Tierney After Car Crash

Community mourns as 18 year old Patrick Tierney dies at Jane Case hospital in Delaware from brain concussion after a car accident north of town. He had worked in the C. C. Simonis meat department since last June and is survived by his parents and brother. Funeral at the Catholic church in Delaware at 9:00 this morning with relatives attending.

Death of John Dill at Dayton Veterans Hospital

Ward reports the death of John Dill age 35 at the Veterans Hospital in Dayton after years of failing health from war gas exposure. He was a son of George and Minnie Dill formerly of this town, with George Dill a great-uncle. Mrs. John Dill was critically ill with influenza when his husband died.
