Carey Jaycees urge young men 21 to 36 to join a global network of 350 000 members. The ad emphasizes personal development, community projects, delegation, and investing time over money to achieve leadership skills and social betterment.
The Peoples Bank teams with Carey theatre to present a free Saturday matinee for local children featuring The Little Sheph herd of Kingdom Come, with Jimmie Rogers in the main feature, a comedy and three cartoons. Doors open 1 30 p m for a 2 p m start. No tickets needed. Evening shows start at 7 p m with Mysterious Island and Secret of Monte Carlo.
The Texas Township Conservation Club will host its monthly supper on Saturday January 27. Menu includes chicken and fish and serving starts at 5 PM.
Mr and Mrs J F Dible sold their 416 Findlay Street residence to Mr and Mrs BE J Weaver of 169 W Brown Avenue. The Dibles redecorate the former Straw home at 242 W Findlay Street and plan to move in weeks. The Webers and their son Ronald will relocate to the Findlay property and rent their current home.
Mr and Mrs Tivis B Adkins purchased a newly constructed house on W Brown Avenue built by D J Builders Bucyrus They and their children Danny Randy and Debbie moved Saturday from the Henry Kimmel house south of Carey Mr Adkins works for Swan Rubber Co.
J. BR. Castner, Milton Freewater city manager and former village manager here, was named one of Milton Freewater's three citizens of distinction for 1961 at the Chamber of Commerce awards banquet on Jan 8. He received the Junior Citizenship Award for extensive service to community groups and activities including Methodist Church leadership, Rotary, the League of Oregon Cities, and the 1961 Pea Festival and United Fund drives. Castner and his wife Mary Lou have four children. Look Magazine later photographed him for the All America Cities feature as Milton Freewater reached the national finals.
Mrs L N Zahn announces a house to house Mothers March next Tuesday for the New March of Dimes. Local women from the Jay DeeJays Woman's Club Catholic Ladies of Columbia Carey Garden Club will canvass after 6 30 or 7. Porch lights to aid volunteers and fund drive supports polio arthritis and birth defect research.
Sara Gardner Long will receive a bachelor of science in education at Bowling Green State University as part of the January 26 commencement. Approximately 170 bachelor degrees and 40 master degrees will be awarded, with Dr. Novice G. Fawcett addressing graduates. Commencement begins at 3 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. Second semester classes start February 5.
The Carey Conservation Sportsman Association holds its annual membership meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday Jan 28 at the Recreation Park clubhouse. Members are urged to attend.
The Ortho Division of California Chemical Company says A. J. Dibling, manager of the Carey Farmers' Co op, has signed as a dealer for the full Unipel pelleted fertilizer line.
Cub Scouts Pack 13 and their parents and friends are urged to attend a Sunday afternoon meeting at 4 o clock in the Christ Lutheran Church basement.
Evangelical United Brethren revival opens next Tuesday at Memorial E U B Church with Rev E Love Donelson leading as evangelist and cornetist. He will preach and sing each evening at 7 30 except Saturdays through Feb 11 with special Youth Night Children s Night and class nights scheduled and aim for full class attendance.
Mary Myers born January 26, 1862, near Salem township, will observe her 100th birthday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Maurice and Mrs. Gaster. She has two children, Emmet and Mrs. Gaster, three grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. A Mass in her honor will be said at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.
The Justus Lodge No. 393 Knights of Pythias, Inc. meeting elected officers after its regular session Tuesday night. President Wallace Dible and vice president Earl LeMott head the new corporation with Ira Hablitzel as secretary, Herbert Lenner as treasurer, and trustees Clarence Prescott R. F. Wright and Harry Iden.
The second session on one cylinder engines is tonight at 8 o'clock. All farmers interested are invited to bring their engines to work on. Bill OFlaherty will assist with checking and repairing engines. Refreshments will be served.
Glen Vollmar former Wyandot county extension agent and 4H leader will speak at the annual Producers Livestock Association meeting Saturday at the fairgrounds. He has built a strong reputation as an agricultural economist and is completing work on his doctorate in this field.
A delegation of five Upper Sandusky Kiwanians led by President Joe Seitz visited the Carey Club for its weekly dinner. Homer Sammet delivered a program with slides on hunting deer elk and antelope in western states plus Canadian bear hunting. Craycraft Huffman Craycraft LeVene Smith announced upcoming programs including a Triple Crown races movie and the annual telephone program. The club also hosted 32 fifth graders for a YMCA swimming party and plans another trip for about 50.
Leonard Brandt president of UMW Local 15050 announces the local has leased the third floor of the OOF Building from William Jennings for its union headquarters. Officers include Vice-president David Yingling and financial secretary John Arlington with several stewards and a district representative John Posel, based in Columbus.
Relatives announce John Wenzinger, 19, regained speech 108 days after a skull fracture from a Sept 24 auto crash. He spent weeks at St Rita s Hospital Lima then Wyandot Memorial Hospital and is now cared for at home with gradual improvement and hope for walking soon.
Christ Lutheran Church invites all members to hear Rev. George E. Cressman conduct the worship service at 10 30 am Sunday. Cressman is pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church Savannah Ga.
Noah Bleam bagged a red fox after a two mile chase in a hunt sponsored January 14 by the Carey Sportsman Association. A Carey Times report misattributed the success to Noah's brother Homer.
Fred Ward of Swan Rubber Co announces Wayne Terry becomes Lineville division manager for the new tire plant in Lineville Alabama. Eugene Costello and Gene Stillberger transfer to Lineville to lead maintenance and mold operations as construction slows due to cold wet weather. Frank Bartes will assume Carey division manager duties with Robert Hecker as assistant. Sales staffing shifts follow the division move.
A Carey area audience heard C. Paul Palmer of National Lime and Stone Co and Robert Keaney of J. C. Keaney and Sons discuss the glass industry at the Carey Community Development Corporation annual dinner in the Homestead dining room. Palmer noted NL&S operates eight plants with 200 Carey employees and discussed market competition, staff development, and future goals. Keaney traced glass history and emphasized Carey's rail access and dolomite supply supporting local glass manufacturing. Officers for 1962 to be elected Feb. 6 at the Municipal Building.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service at First Methodist Church will hold the second session of its study course on Monday January 29 from 1 30 to 3 30 pm at the home of Mrs E G Ryman Orchard Court The topic Latin America will be led by Mrs Robert Frederick A coffee hour will follow Ten attended the first meeting Those unable to attend all meetings may join individual sessions All are welcome to participate.
Merle Beard of two miles west of Alvada sustained a back injury in a one-car mishap on Seneca county Road 6 north of Carey. He was admitted to Blanchard Valley Hospital after Bristoll’s ambulance transported him from the icy roadway. The car was demolished.
A trap shoot will be held at the Texas Township Conservation Club on Sunday January 28. Shooting begins at 1 p.m.
