Miss Helen Smith is appointed by W. R. Gongwere president of the Ohio Education Association classroom teachers department to serve a third year on the international relations committee. She will attend a Columbus conference January 25 and 26 with a dinner for all members Friday night and committee meetings Saturday morning at the Ohio Education offices.
In Colonel Crawford buildings the children enjoy new lights identical to those in the high school. The cold cathode lights, miscalled fluorescent last week, light instantly and emit a steady glow. They last about ten thousand hours versus two thousand for fluorescent tubes and are aimed at improving school work as funds allow.
Since Christmas the G A A basketball games have started again during the noon hour. Everyone has tried to make the games enjoyable by playing fair and being good sports. Some games have been close and each girl has played her best to the final whistle. This year any junior or senior girl could referee these games.
Senior students in a world literature course study geography by labeling maps with cities mountains and bodies of water. They have covered Asia North America South America the United States and the British Isles and enjoy the exercise while aiming forgreater knowledge of locations and distances.
On Tuesday January 15 the student body watched a 45 minute film Treasure Island. The event drew lively engagement and was thoroughly entertaining for many students.
The F H A meeting January 14 in the homeroom economics classroom opened by new president Charlene Phillips succeeding Marilyn Gibson. Past presidents Mrs Norman Heck TM and Miss Judy Hill spoke. Trene McKinnon elected vice president. Members brought gifts auctioned by Libby Gardner, raising $5.17 for the treasury.
The municipal corps asks able residents to stand watch for a couple of hours on Saturdays or Sundays during defense exercises. Volunteers contact William Keller or Harold Shue to report planes, motors, positions, and travel direction to the Columbus filter center within an eight mile radius.
Former Capt. Harold E. Krout is added to the U S Air Force gold oak leaf wearers on Clark Air Force Base Philippines. He serves as a pilot for the 6204th Photo Mapping Flight and Thirteenth Air Force. He previously commanded at Hamilton and Bolling AFBs and earned overseas service in the Pacific theater. Krout lives on base with wife Martha and their three children Jane Louise Kathleen Sue and Carla Emerson.

The first torpedo from Toledo via Fostoria reached Carey at 3 30 p m and Columbus by 8 p m northbound leaves Columbus 2 p m arrives Carey 6 05 p m and Toledo 9 45 p m. Night runs stop at Findlay and Marion to speed mail to Carey and Findlay. Present schedules may change if improvements are found.
At 9 30 a m Sunday the First Methodist Church hosts the Christian Family Life film The Family Next Door about building strong Christian homes. Guests Rev and Mrs Donald Cryer of Findlay will join Family Night with supper on January 31. Cryer will speak on Christian Living during the Fall Advance Emphasis.
Shirley Keller daughter of Mr and Mrs William Keller plans to offer voice lessons for children ages seven to fourteen. She has studied at Heidelberg College Tiffin and the Conservatory of Music in Mt Clemens Michigan. Call 4116 after 4 pm for inquiries.
J F Dible and brothers Wallace and Harry purchase the building on S Valice Street from E C Harshberger, a former bowling alley site. The space, later used by Bernard's Furniture for storage, will house the J F Dible Co sheet metal department and related operations.
The interior of a new house by Theodore Jesko on Woodland avenue is finished. Street work is incomplete so no open house. the home is offered for sale and interested buyers should call A771 for an appointment.
Mrs Mary Myers, aged 00, will celebrate her birthday this Saturday at the Gaster home 189 W North Street. She resides with her son Maurice Aster and daughter Mr and Mrs Maurice Aster. A fine dinner will be served Sunday in her honor. She is the widow of the late Henry Myers.

Newhard Studios captured the moment, one of the derby prizes. Prizes were awarded Wednesday afternoon after postponement due to bad weather.
Chief Henry Pieragini warns drivers to deposit coins and turn the meter handle after each coin. Some try to gain free time by relying on officers to activate meters. Tickets will be issued to those who fail to deposit the required coin and operate the meter, as meters are being rendered inoperative daily.

Roy Ryder retires as telegraph operator for the Big Four railroad now New York Central Lines. Lyle Marine of Bellefontaine is sent to Carey to fill the vacancy and plans to move his family here once a suitable home is secured.
The Past Noble Grands of Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge No. 656 will be held in the ICO hall Tuesday evening January 29. Committees in charge are Mrs. Y. R. Biple as chairman, Mrs. Lloyd Long and Mrs. Ruby Criger.
Community bake sale set for Saturday January 26 at 10 am in Dible's plumbing shop. Patrons are invited to join and support local activities with proceeds likely benefiting the group.
The Haines Products Co. has moved its equipment to a new 40 by 40 foot concrete block building at 415 W North Street. J A Haines, owner, invites the public to visit. Since 1929 the business operated from 421 W Findlay Street. The new building will have 9 foot ceilings and is well lit. grounds will be landscaped later. Products include personal deodorants atmosphere deodorants disinfectants and moth and insect sprays.
A Goodwill Industries truck from Toledo will visit Carey on Thursday February 7 to collect items. Clothing books papers magazines cardboard furniture stoves jewelry frames glassware tools dishes and bric a brac are welcome even if not in good condition.
