Serious Auto Crash Leaves Patrick Tierney Critically Injured

Patrick Tierney sustained a concussion and remained unconscious after a Ford roadster crashed into a telephone pole on Base Line Road three miles north of town. Glen Smiley survived with minor cuts. The car, recently repaired, struck near Ernest Smith’s home. Tierney was taken to Jane Case hospital in Delaware by ambulance. his parents live there.

Carey Leads State in 1933 Auto Tag Sales

Local Registrar W. Campbell reports this year’s auto tag sales rose to 904 units, with fees totaling 8786 95 dollars, while receipts lagged by over 500 dollars despite higher volume. He notes January 17, 1982 figures show 881 tags and 932865 in fees. Carey is praised as a banner tag seller in the state.

Annual meeting a success at Carey Branch

About 350 members attended the Carey Branch annual meeting of the North Central Ohio Cooperative Dairy Sales Association at the Catholic hall. O H Brenneman from Morrow county audited the books and reported. Directors elected were D A Dow Fred Powell C C Wenner and G E Greer with a Feb 9 board meeting to organize. Performances included Brown's Orchestra Avenell Robison solo Arthur Brown baritone Vincent Brown piano Mary Jane Myers reading and L A Taylor spoke on quality erg production and marketing. Carey Knights of Pythias Lodge Hosts District Meeting

Justus Lodge in Carey hosted a district gathering of Knights of Pythias with 100 plus attendees from Nevada Sycamore Bucyrus and Bowling Green. Glen Sparks grand chancellor of Ohio praised the lodge and its castle hall while other grand officers spoke. Knights conferred two ranks and a social hour followed with refreshments.

Carey Kiwanis met with near full attendance and strong enthusiasm. Guests included William Hunter and Ralph Hamler who spoke on railroad business cooperation. A publicity program was announced with a committee to place main signs and another to document 11 years of projects for future publication.

Carey High School schedules Parents Night for Friday January 20 with boys and girls teams hosting Bloomdale. After a recent survey only 24 pupils list parents as basketball fans while 96 report parents never attend. A special ticket package offers both parents for 30 cents and single admissions for 25 cents with band music and community singing to boost turnout.

Junior Choir Organized at Memorial Evangelical Church

A junior choir for ages 9 to 14 was formed at Memorial Evangelical Church led by Mrs. W. R. Shisler. Twenty five youths signed a creed pledging regular rehearsal attendance, reverent conduct during worship, and service through song. They plan a study course on music of the Bible and church hymns.

Death of Edward C Moore in Montana at 65

Mrs Gust Summit learned of her brother Edward C Moore death after a two week illness and operation at Deaconess Hospital Havre Montana aged 65 He was the oldest son of Mrs Amanda Moore of Vanlue Survived by his wife a son Francis of West Chicago and a daughter Edith May at home He went to Montana twenty years ago.

Carey Welfare reports clothing and shoe fund exhausted

The Carey Welfare Committee warns that its clothing and shoe fund is exhausted after a fall benefit supper raised $144,6Q2 in donations and a community play at the high school, to fund shoes and clothing for Carey children. Tickets cost 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children, with all proceeds staying in Carey.

The local W C T U held a Victory Day program at Mrs Virgil Green's home on E North St Friday afternoon. Miss Della Gilliland presided. Mrs Elza Jacobs led the program featuring The American Creed and a radio broadcast style reading of leaflets on Prohibition and social reform.

Preaching Mission At Christ Lutheran Church

Rev Paul R. Clouser leads a four week preaching mission at Christ Lutheran Church during regular Sunday service hours. Special sermons will include Is God Dead in the first week.
