Ohio reports 40000 fires from careless match use with 534 cases last year. Fire Marshal D. C. Cramer notes most fires start in cellars, clothing, lace curtains and carpets. He urges prohibition of parlor size matches and adoption of safety matches.

Farmers Institute at Snyder’s Opera House Next Weekend

The Farmers Institute will be held next Friday and Saturday at Snyder’s Opera House. Lecturers are well known in Fostoria and will be complemented by music recitations and discussions. Admission fees cover expenses for an independent, high quality event. Local farmers are praised for supporting the annual institute.

Couple Adrian wedding at Rev Keyes parish home

Mr Corey Chambers of Bigwlick township and Miss Mary Hartle of Ridge township wed on Thursday January 9 at the home of Rev Keyes in Vanlue. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs David Chambers and the bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs A W Hartle. They will reside on a farm in Biglick township.

Miss Florence Dow Elected Officer at Arethian Society

Florence Dow of this city has been chosen an officer of the Arethian Literary Society at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware where she attends college. The position carries prominence due to the university's emphasis on literary work and in March, the teams will debate tariff questions in four intercollegiate debates hosted by the school.

Funeral for Nett Preece Held at M E Church

The remains of Nett Preece were brought to Eliaots for a funeral at the M. E. church after he died last week at his daughter's home on the Big Four railroad. Undertaker Wesley Patterson assisted, and Preece was about sixty five years old.

Death of Emma Thom at age nineteen on farm near town

Emma Thom daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael Thom died suddenly last Thursday night at ten o clock on the family farm three miles northeast of town. A post mortem by Drs Myers Zels Southward and Van Buren determined heart trouble as the cause. Funeral held Saturday at Our Lady of Consolation church with Requiem High Mass. interment at St Marys Cemetery. Death of Frederick Shoemaker of Mt. Lanchard

Frederick Shoemaker, of Mt. Lanchard, died last Friday after weeks with typhoid fever. He served as 2nd Lieutenant in Co. BE under Captain Wallace and was well known locally. Funeral services were held Sunday with a large attendance, military honors, and a delegation from Co. A, 2nd regiment, Findlay. He is survived by his father, mother, and two sisters.

Woman's Missionary Society Tea Held at Patterson Home

The Woman's Missionary Society of the M. E. Church held an afternoon tea at Mrs. Wesley Patterson's home last Thursday. Devotional services were led by Mrs. M. Johnston followed by papers read by several members. A ladies quartet performed and about 100 people were served refreshments.

Birthday Surprise at Carey for Mrs Rickle on 36th Birthday

Friends and neighbors gathered Friday January 3 at Mrs Rickle's home near Carey to celebrate her 36th birthday. A rocking chair and a decorative plate were given, a noon dinner was served, and Roy Wickiser won first prize in an afternoon guessing contest while Marl Burson took the booby prize.
