High school plans three one act plays schedule pending

The faculty in charge of the high school plays plans to present three one act plays instead of the usual activity night. Publication of exact performance dates will follow. Chapel committee members for the second semester were named as Helen Lanner, Arthur Brown and Robert Heck. Band officers chosen include Persis Peirce as president and Daryl Moyer as vice president.

Attendance Returns to Normal After Flu Absence

School attendance rebounds to typical levels as students return after holiday flu wave. Prior to break many pupils were missing due to widespread illness, but recent days show improved turnout and resumed classroom activities.

Murder suspect arrested in Ruth Steese slaying

Russell Phillip Young of Niles Michigan was taken from a freight train by C and O detectives and held in jail as a murder suspect in the Cleveland bookkeeper Ruth Steese case. Cleveland detectives moved him to Cleveland for questioning. His alibi is under review and authorities compare his description to the killer, with ongoing investigation.

Mrs Ida Schira Carey Obituary Death at Home

Mrs Ida Victoria Schira of Carey died Monday morning at her home on West South Street from intestinal illness. Born October 3, 1888 in Erie County, she lived in Carey since infancy, married to Carl Schira on May 1, 1917, leaving four sons and many relatives. Funeral held at Our Lady of Consolation Church with burial in St Mary’s Cemetery. numerous out of town attendees listed.

Salem singers train with All-State Chorus in Columbus

Miss Martha Schoenberger and Miss Justine Orians of Salem and their music teacher Miss Eloise Price of Forest spent three days in Columbus for All-State Singing Chorus rehearsals. The program was performed Wednesday night in Memorial Hall after sessions in the Elk's Home and Deshler-Wallick hotel ballroom. Thursday afternoon the students attended a bridge party hosted by Miss Price at the Y W C A club room.

Woman's Big Four Bowler Wins Prize at Local Alleys

Mrs. Fred Hiatt of the Woman's Big Four won the prize for the highest bowling score at the local alleys in December. Her score reached 171. L. N. Zahn and Mrs Hiatt posted the top mixed doubles score Friday evening.

Judge Kear Inaugurated As Wyandot County Judge

The youngest Ohio jurist, Judge Russell H. Kear, took the oath Saturday before Clerk E. J. Ulrich and began duties at midnight. He succeeds Judge Earl B. Carter, overseeing the combined common pleas and probate court in Wyandot County. Deputy Daniel Reynolds is retained. Aurelia Miller is named probate division clerk. Carter will open offices above the former Kimmel Best shoe store.

Kinsinger Funeral Rites Held for Joan Franks B

Funeral services for Joan Franks B were held Saturday at the Methodist church with Rev. A. C. Rainsberger in charge. A quartet sang Lead Kindly Light and My Faith Looks Up to Thee. Interment followed in Spring Grove cemetery. Burial attendants included Ed Campbell Jr and several local residents from Findlay, Bluffton, Marton, and other nearby towns.

Fifty-one local railroad workers met at the Big Four station to plan an educational program promoting closer cooperation with business interests. R B Hamler was named chairman, C Steinmetz vice chairman, F A Galbroner secretary, and Raymond Campbell treasurer. A follow up meeting with local business men is set for Monday evening January 9.

Registrar issues 1933 tags for vehicles in county

Registrar W. Z. Campbell issued 836 sets of tags for 720 passenger cars 65 trucks and 51 trailers. The total is 40 more cars 85 fewer trucks and 26 fewer trailers than last year. About $9 000 was collected but it fell $3 000 short of last year due to several large trucks not being tagged.
