American Legion Fifth District Conference Set in Carey

Earl Green Post hosts the American Legion Fifth District Conference on March 2 and 3 in Carey with District Commander Helge Eckedahl in charge and State Commander William Ronald expected to attend. Delegates arrive Saturday with registration at 9 a m Sunday, business sessions at 10 a m, and a 2 p m Sunday afternoon meeting at the high school auditorium. A dance and floor show will cap the weekend in the Colonial room at the Galt.

Funeral services for A. P. Sandles set in Ottawa Ohio

A. P. Sandles 64 prominent Ohio Democrat died Tuesday in Columbus after a weakened heart condition. Funeral will be Friday at 2 p m at the family home in Ottawa with Rev C E Weaver Kenton presiding. Burial in Harman Cemetery. He resigned from the Louisville Farm Land Bank board and was nationally known in agricultural circles and state politics.

Carey Farmers Ladies Night At Community Club

About 100 attended the Carey Farmers Community club Ladies Night Monday. Ralph Brown led songs with Mrs. Fred Powell at piano, Wickiser Trio performed, Rev. Paul R. Clouser spoke, Supt. C. M. Beitler of Sycamore gave the address, Rev. A. C. Rainsberger spoke, followed by a big feed and dancing to close.

Minstrel Show At High School Praised As Success

The high school auditorium hosted a two night minstrel show directed by Eddie Ewald of Newark, formerly with Al G. Fields' minstrels. It was the fourth such production by Earl Green post and considered perhaps the best in many ways. After Tuesday’s program the cast was entertained in the Colonial room at the Galt Hotel.

Choir to Host Card Party and Dance for Church Fund

On February 28 the choir of Our Lady of Guidance church will hold a dance card party and lunch at the Catholic hall to raise funds for the organ. Proceeds support the church's organ fund and community event.

Tournam ent 10 Held in Carey

The Class B sectional basketball tournament, held in Carey for the fourth straight year, runs March 6 to 9 at the high school gym. Twelve teams from Wood Wyandot Hancock Hardin and Crawford counties compete with Carey and St Wendelin to determine two qualifiers for Findlay and then Columbus. Last Thursday Carey basketball sent their reserves to Crestline where they trailed 17 to 30 after a slow start. The varsity game stayed tight but Crestline pulled away, leading 24 to 3 at halftime before the locals rallied in the second half to edge closer with 6 more points.

Carey Forces Narrow Victory Over Marseilles Friday

Marseilles visited and led by halftime but Carey reserves held them to 2 points at the break and 6 more in the second half as Carey won 10-6. The first team had beaten Marseilles earlier, with a 27-19 visitors’ win. A league game is set Friday as Carey travels to Norwalk to face St Paul.
