At Kiwanis Farmers Night several speakers urged farmers to reciprocate by entertaining Kiwanis Club members soon. The idea drew a positive response and enthusiasm grew, prompting a forthcoming meeting of farmers interested for 7 30 Friday night at the library.
S H Krebs local Chevrolet dealer moves to Keller building on East Indlay street. Front area serves as office, a 34 foot partition allows a balcony display at the rear with an elaborate lighting system. Behind display a service shop operates.
The Kiwanis Club luncheon drew a large crowd with songs and fellowship. No regular speaker was present, but attendees discussed the Denver International Convention and tour options including a Yellowstone Park trip. Leaflets publicized the tours and the March 24 film event at the high school auditorium, free to the public. Senator Burton is announced as next week’s speaker.
Firefighters battled a 3:48 afternoon blaze on West Fridlay Street as the second story burned and furniture, including a diamond ring owned by Grace Anderson, was damaged or lost. Guests from Toledo witnessed the incident as the family stays with Ida Newcomer while repairs proceed.
Pastor Rev. Lewis P. Speaker plans return to both Sunday services next Lord's Day. Three Bible classes from the school entered the campaign: Wonder Bible, Queen Esther, and the Men's Bible class. Ash Wednesday begins Lent with special midweek services and Epistle lessons in the morning and a sermon on Some Fundamentals of the Christian Faith in the evening.
Mrs Olive B Mackan who has had charge of the Carey Times for seven weeks returned to her Plain City home Monday noon. She stayed with Mrs Emmeretta Brown on West Findlay Street and her Carey Times work was described as very successful and enjoyable.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Lutheran church hosts a bazaar and supper in the Sunday school room on Saturday March 1. Bazaar opens at 2:00 p.m. Supper starts at 4:30 p.m. Menu features chicken mashed potatoes coleslaw biscuits baked apples and pie. Tickets 50 cents.
L A Kramer has purchased the I E Copley residence on N Vance Street and will take possession about April 1. The deal was arranged through the Newhard Real Estate Agency.
Mrs. F. J. Imerine and husband announce the birth of a daughter weighing 10 percent of a pound. The baby to be christened Katherine Jane this Sunday.
Wyatt Hatchery prepares for its third hatch of the season as the first two hatches proved successful and popular with visitors.
Sycamore defeats Carey 23 to 18 Saturday to claim the Wyandot county basketball tournament title. The victory earns both Sycamore and Carey spots in the upcoming sectional at Lima Friday and Saturday.
Sycamore beat Salem 18 to 9 in the opener as Salem showed improvement. Upper Sandusky triumphed over Nevada 24 to 11. Wharton edged Eden 21 to 20 after overtime with a late rally. Carey overwhelmed Marseilles 16 by captain Tong leading with 16 points and Huegley Gardner each 10.
The first semi final between Upper and Sycamore stayed tight from the start. Upper led early and at halftime nearly doubled Sycamore. A second half rally by Sycamore tied the game 18 all and forced overtime. After a five minute OT the game remained tied. In the second OT Sycamore surged to lead 32 27 at the end.
Carey defeats Wharton 28 to 16 to advance to the finals. The first half stayed close at about 10 points each, then Carey pulled away in the second half by scoring 18 to Wharton’s 5, securing a decisive win.
Afternoon action saw Nevada defeat Salem and Eden beat Marseilles. Evening contest matched Nevada against Eden in a tight consolation final won by Nevada after strong fast break and shooting from their squad despite Eden’s standout effort.
The hall was packed as Carey and Sycamore opened fast with Carey leading 6-3 after one. Bal liet sparked Sycamore with five baskets in the third, but Carey rallied to outscore in the final period and secure the win despite Sycamore's late surge.
In a tight game Sycamore edged Carey 23 18. Tony and A Huston spearheaded Carey’s offense while Ludwig and Balliet starred for Sycamore. Ludwig led early scoring, Balliet later poured in six baskets to seal the win.
The Carey Handle and Lumber Co held a Saturday banquet at Moose Hall for fifty guests. Grover Snyder served as toast master while Wm. Sholty, the president and general manager, announced a 5 percent bonus for every employee with 30 days of service. Local dignitaries praised the spirit and a social evening followed with out of town guests Mrs. William Shorty and A. S. Smith present.
The three weeks revival at the Evangelical church closed Sunday evening with strong attendance and many conversions. About thirty Sunday school scholars publicly professed faith and will join the church. New members to be received next Sunday March 9. Passion Week services planned April 13 to 20.
Prof Otto Pflueger on vacation from the Philippines where he heads the Forestry Department tours New Haven New York Philadelphia Albany and Washington to persuade lawmakers to pass rubber cultivation legislation. He met with Firestone representatives in Akron before beginning his mission.
Hunter has received a state permit to operate motor trucks for hire. The approval clears the way for commercial transport work under state regulation.
Cast list for the Earl Green Post minstrel show at the Catholic Hall on March 3 and 4 includes Howard Snyder as master of ceremonies with extensive end men, ballad singers, music makers, an orchestra, dancers, readers, and a finale. Programs note special scenery and a 4:00 pm ticket sale at Pieraccini’s.
Ralph Winsted of Vanlue Paul B Myers alias Red Myers of Findlay and Walter Emeneger with unknown residence were arrested in Chillicothe by Hancock county authorities for complicity in stealing clover seed from the Rawson elevator. John Crawford of Vanlue was arrested earlier in Findlay and reportedly provided information leading to the other arrests.
Last Thursday evening an Overland touring car carrying Fred Koehl and Guy Wilson returning to Sycamore broke a wheel near Spring Grove Cemetery. The vehicle stalled in snow and ice and could not back out. Koehl was a proprietor of the Wyatt Hatchery.
The council meeting moved from Monday to Friday at ten o clock. Dow Street property owners drain petitioners matter to be considered at the session.
