Heavy rains aggravate floods across the region with the Blanchard river ice jam finally breaking near Findlay. Blanchard street bridge to the county line freed water. detours posted as roads close and residents flee low lands. Sandusky river rises near Upper Sandusky and Crestline as creeks clear slowly.
C Wagner, East Side Market proprietor, will celebrate his 12th birthday this Saturday. Born February 29 1884 a leap year, he has not had a true birthday since 1896 and asks Wyandot county residents born on February 29 in leap years to share if they also celebrate only every four years.
The Carey Townsend club sponsors a pie social Monday evening March 2 at the public library. The public is cordially invited with music to be provided.
Students gathered for a sophomore chapel program with choir and readings. Ruth Hosafros Betty Bowman Jack Wright Harold Reinhart performed while John Jacoby spoke on turning points in Washington. Bruce Knoblock and Donald Wenner presented A Visit from George Washington.
Wednesday evening the full cast gathered for a three course dinner at 6 at the high school to celebrate its operetta. Dancing and games like cards and ping-pong followed as Miss Helen Smith and Janet Somers visited Piketon over the weekend to see Miss Smith’s brother Paul Smith.
Tomorrow night at 7 30 Carey welcomes Tiffin Calvert for a League of Six Nations game. The B squad opens at 7 30 with the varsity to follow at 8 30. The home game precedes the March 6 tournament.
Carey High defeated St Wendelin High in a league game paced by Kitzler and Twining as Carey led 14 to 7 after the first quarter and 19 to 10 at halftime. A third quarter burst added 11 points to St Wendelin's 5. Gaylord Patterson, recently returned to Carey from Huntsville, Ala, contributed 9 assists. The Carey B squad also won 16-13 in the preliminary clash.
A 2 by 7 inch bookmark made from Stratosphere balloon fabric reaching 72 395 feet was received by C. C. Simonis on Wednesday. A balloon photo decorates the front and a flight record on the back. The Nov 11 1935 flight fabric was sent by the National Geographic Society.
John Nelson was sentenced Friday to 30 days in the county jail and fined 40 dollars plus costs for stealing coal from the Big Four railroad. The trial before Justice of the Peace George Remlinger was aided by a Big Four railroad detective.
At the regular meeting the Wyandot County Conservation League outlines dam projects on streams to secure national funding. Howard Guthrie cites Marion county results showing drought relief, flood control, and revived springs after dam construction and fish stocking. A special meeting Friday February 28 at 8 pm in the courthouse assembly room invites members and non members alike to plan and hear progress reports.
Dr Carl Watson of the WPA in Ohio orders all district directors to halt political activity by employees on administrative or supervisory duties. Candidates or officeholders on staff must resign or be dismissed. security workers in supervisory roles must be released. The policy covers state and district offices and project payrolls.
Esther Orians and George Remlinger wed Saturday at 5:00 am in Our Lady of Consolation church. Rev. Paul Vollrath officiated with Fr. Giles on organ. Remlinger, a justice of the peace and local insurance agent, and Orians, daughter of the late Salome Orians and bookkeeper at Carey Farmers Cooperative, will reside on West North Street.
Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school hosts a social on Tuesday evening March 3 at Mrs. Virgil Green’s home on North Street. The public is invited to attend. A playlet They Make an Impression will be presented and refreshments served. Assisting hostesses are Mrs. Claude Johnson Mrs. J G Essex Mrs. Peter Long Mrs. Carl Shuman and Mrs. Vertie Bame.
The Carey Community Chest executive board met at the public library with Chairman Earl Briggs presiding. Members HL Wenner Mrs H Pahl Supt L Arnholt Rev Paul Clouser voted allocations to Carey Welfare and Undernourished Child committees to sustain work until new budgets. An annual meeting was set for April 20 with reports from officers and beneficiary groups and three new board members to be elected. Committees were named Auditing and Nominating with listed members.
Paul J. Pahl, an employee of Frazier Rubber Products Corp, suffered severe injuries to his left hand when it got caught in a calendar press. The accident halted by a throwoff lever, saving the arm. He was taken to Findlay Home and Hospital and operated on Monday. by Wednesday afternoon he was reported doing as well as could be expected.

John Jaster Jr state highway department superintendent sued John Fox and others in common pleas court at Upper Sandusky for condemnation. Jury verdict reached at 2 30 PM valued the land at 300 and damages at 250. Fox had asked 42 50 for the land.
The son born February 15 to Mr and Mrs A G Windau of Columbus Avenue was christened Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev Giles officiated and the child was named Thomas Joseph. Sponsors were Mr and Mrs Harry Myers.
Mr Robert Byers will display Maisonette Easter frocks at Mrs L L Lanker home 249 East South Street on Tuesday evening March 3 from 9 to 11. Customers welcome and may bring friends. For information call X-292.
The 8th grade pupils achieved perfect arithmetic scores for a week. Students include Don ald Reinhart and Robert yers Ida Ruffing Richard Brown. Also listed are pupils who earned 100 percent in spelling review last week such as Robert Bakies Marguerite Bakies Amos Black Anna Fox and others.
Daryl Moyer of Carey has been nominated as principal candidate to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis by Congressman Brooks Fletcher. He is the son of Dr and Mrs F L Moyer of 627 E Findlay Street Carey. He is an honor student with an average around 90 and active in music. he will enter the Academy in June subject to tests and upon graduation will be commissioned Ensign in the US Navy.
Telegram notified E M Keller of J Irvin Ulsh death at 81 from heart trouble in Peabody Kansas. Funeral held in Peabody. Ulsh born in Biglick township Hancock County and farmed. Survived by wife Laura Keller and four children Myrtle Hazel Barton Roy. brothers W B Ulsh Findlay and Mrs James Wonder Denver. sisters Mrs Rose Hall and Mrs Caroline Snowden Long Beach. He was brother of the late Mrs Ralph Moore and Mrs N W Bright Findlay.
Mrs Samuel Gunther served as worthy installing officer Friday evening as Mrs Perry McDaniel was installed Esther succeeding Miss Helen Beebe who left for Toledo. Mrs Wayne Allen was installing marshal. The first in a series of Lenten Thursday night services at the Methodist church will be held tonight at 7 30 in the worship auditorium. Each service lasts thirty five minutes and ends at 8 15 followed by choir rehearsal and orchestra practice. All members and friends are urged to attend.

The Pythian Sisters announce a Thursday evening meeting followed by a birthday special. Members are asked to attend and participate in the event.
The sec tional tournament runs March 5 to 14 at Carey symnasium with three games on March 5 6 and 7 semifinals on March 13 finals and consolation on March 14 Winners and runners up receive trophies and individual awards The champion advances to Columbus for the 16 team finals This is the 5th year Carey hosts and Findlay omits its district tournament
The Kiwanis club heard Don Smith of Toledo from General Electric describe light types and the mercury vapor lamp at the Pilgrim House. He cited sunlight as 10 000 foot candles and a 40 watt bulb as one to two foot candles, noting 95 percent of people over 60 have eye strain.
The high school agriculture department reports seed corn tests with 347 cars tested and only two rated good. Corn husked early and dried in the barn may have poor germinating qualities without artificial heat. A seed and basketball event by the short course boys starts at 8 after the game.
Rev Virgil L Yohe, former Carey youth, accepts a call to the Lutheran parish at Middletown Indiana after nine successful years at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrenceburg Indiana. Mr Yohe and Mrs Yohe moved to Middletown on Tuesday. He is brother to Miss Gertrude Yohe and John Yohe of the area.
Mrs Steve Groticelli of Toledo street was taken to Mercy hospital in Toledo on Monday for treatment. She lies seriously ill with heart trouble, accompanied by her husband and sister-in-law Mrs Frank Pinciotti of Toledo.
The Fruths express gratitude to everyone who assisted during the fire that destroyed their homes and for the sympathy shown. They also thank the fire department for their service.
Missionary societies from the Methodist, Christ Lutheran and Memorial Evangelical churches join for a World Day of Prayer service at 2 30 pm Friday at the Evangelical church. Public invited.
