Grocery proprietor Will S Celebrates Leap Day Birthday

C Wagner, East Side Market proprietor, will celebrate his 12th birthday this Saturday. Born February 29 1884 a leap year, he has not had a true birthday since 1896 and asks Wyandot county residents born on February 29 in leap years to share if they also celebrate only every four years.

Cast Celebrates Operetta Success with Dinner at High School

Wednesday evening the full cast gathered for a three course dinner at 6 at the high school to celebrate its operetta. Dancing and games like cards and ping-pong followed as Miss Helen Smith and Janet Somers visited Piketon over the weekend to see Miss Smith’s brother Paul Smith.

Carey Hosts Tiffin Calvert in League Clash

Tomorrow night at 7 30 Carey welcomes Tiffin Calvert for a League of Six Nations game. The B squad opens at 7 30 with the varsity to follow at 8 30. The home game precedes the March 6 tournament.

Carey High Wins League of Six Nations Thriller Over St Wendelin

Carey High defeated St Wendelin High in a league game paced by Kitzler and Twining as Carey led 14 to 7 after the first quarter and 19 to 10 at halftime. A third quarter burst added 11 points to St Wendelin's 5. Gaylord Patterson, recently returned to Carey from Huntsville, Ala, contributed 9 assists. The Carey B squad also won 16-13 in the preliminary clash.

Souvenir Stratosphere Balloon Bookmark Given to Simonis

A 2 by 7 inch bookmark made from Stratosphere balloon fabric reaching 72 395 feet was received by C. C. Simonis on Wednesday. A balloon photo decorates the front and a flight record on the back. The Nov 11 1935 flight fabric was sent by the National Geographic Society.

Nelson Sentenced 30 Days for Coal Theft

John Nelson was sentenced Friday to 30 days in the county jail and fined 40 dollars plus costs for stealing coal from the Big Four railroad. The trial before Justice of the Peace George Remlinger was aided by a Big Four railroad detective.

Wyandot County Conservation League To Discuss Dams Plan

At the regular meeting the Wyandot County Conservation League outlines dam projects on streams to secure national funding. Howard Guthrie cites Marion county results showing drought relief, flood control, and revived springs after dam construction and fish stocking. A special meeting Friday February 28 at 8 pm in the courthouse assembly room invites members and non members alike to plan and hear progress reports.

WPA Ohio Bans Political Activity by Supervisory Staff

Dr Carl Watson of the WPA in Ohio orders all district directors to halt political activity by employees on administrative or supervisory duties. Candidates or officeholders on staff must resign or be dismissed. security workers in supervisory roles must be released. The policy covers state and district offices and project payrolls.

Esther Orians and George Remlinger wed Saturday at 5:00 am in Our Lady of Consolation church. Rev. Paul Vollrath officiated with Fr. Giles on organ. Remlinger, a justice of the peace and local insurance agent, and Orians, daughter of the late Salome Orians and bookkeeper at Carey Farmers Cooperative, will reside on West North Street.

Carey Community Chest Board At Public Library Meeting

The Carey Community Chest executive board met at the public library with Chairman Earl Briggs presiding. Members HL Wenner Mrs H Pahl Supt L Arnholt Rev Paul Clouser voted allocations to Carey Welfare and Undernourished Child committees to sustain work until new budgets. An annual meeting was set for April 20 with reports from officers and beneficiary groups and three new board members to be elected. Committees were named Auditing and Nominating with listed members.

Paul J. Pahl Injured at Rubber Plant

Paul J. Pahl, an employee of Frazier Rubber Products Corp, suffered severe injuries to his left hand when it got caught in a calendar press. The accident halted by a throwoff lever, saving the arm. He was taken to Findlay Home and Hospital and operated on Monday. by Wednesday afternoon he was reported doing as well as could be expected.

Condemnation Case Decided in Upper Sandusky Court

John Jaster Jr state highway department superintendent sued John Fox and others in common pleas court at Upper Sandusky for condemnation. Jury verdict reached at 2 30 PM valued the land at 300 and damages at 250. Fox had asked 42 50 for the land.

Baby Christened Sunday in Columbus Couple’s Son

Carey Youth Nominated for Naval Academy in Annapolis

Daryl Moyer of Carey has been nominated as principal candidate to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis by Congressman Brooks Fletcher. He is the son of Dr and Mrs F L Moyer of 627 E Findlay Street Carey. He is an honor student with an average around 90 and active in music. he will enter the Academy in June subject to tests and upon graduation will be commissioned Ensign in the US Navy.

Kiwanis Club Hears Speaker on Light and Eye Health

The Kiwanis club heard Don Smith of Toledo from General Electric describe light types and the mercury vapor lamp at the Pilgrim House. He cited sunlight as 10 000 foot candles and a 40 watt bulb as one to two foot candles, noting 95 percent of people over 60 have eye strain.

Seed corn test shows only two of 347 cars good

The high school agriculture department reports seed corn tests with 347 cars tested and only two rated good. Corn husked early and dried in the barn may have poor germinating qualities without artificial heat. A seed and basketball event by the short course boys starts at 8 after the game.

Rev Virgil L Yohe, former Carey youth, accepts a call to the Lutheran parish at Middletown Indiana after nine successful years at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrenceburg Indiana. Mr Yohe and Mrs Yohe moved to Middletown on Tuesday. He is brother to Miss Gertrude Yohe and John Yohe of the area.
