Keith Richards son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Richards has reached the finals of the 1958 59 National Merit Scholarship Program and received a Certificate of Merit Carey High School announced The finals include about six tenths of one percent of state seniors with nationwide 10000 honorees From 478000 tested in 1958 59 the 10000 finalists will be narrowed by final judging with 700 Merit Scholars to be named in spring Scholarships totaling 3.5 million are offered by over 80 organizations and donors The 1959 finalists will be announced around May 1 and names sent to over 1500 colleges and agencies for consideration

Ralph Harry Reese 46 of Van Buren was killed when his truck rear ended a companion vehicle on Route 6 near Corunna. Death occurred Sunday night in Auburn Indiana Rosota. Born December 19 1912 in Carey to Russell and Nellie Reese, he leaving a wife six children six sisters and a brother.

City Manager George Dunn and E. S. Burson attended Gov. Michael V. DiSalle's industrial conference at the state fairgrounds in Columbus on February 18. Nearly 500 attended as invitations went to businessmen and community leaders. The conference endorsed a proposed state department of economic and industrial development with divisions for industrial development, research, economic development, planning, atomic energy coordination, and water development.
