The lyceum program opens with Plantation Singers a male quartet led by Robert Jackson of Kansas City. They perform plantation scenes spirituals and southern melodies with humor and strong close harmony. An evening of varied material promises strong entertainment for students and community members.
Hundreds gathered in Carey for the McCormick reaper centennial celebration at Zender Implement. The program by International Harvester and Zender featured lectures films including The Romance of the Reaper, a replica reaper, and a luncheon for 400 farmers. Speakers included W C Hagedorn, Don Holton, John Taylor, O F Taulker, and W C Demaline.
Funeral services for Mrs. Warren Stevens were held at Crawford Church last Wednesday. Attendees included Arthur Stevens of Cleveland Oklahoma Homer Stevens of Garber and Vernon Prindle of Republic Cora Stover and family Wilbur Prindle and Edward Welter of Tiffin Russell Prindle and Russell Prindle plus Gerald Prindle Mollie Wonder and several Prindle relatives. Six grandsons served as pallbearers: Don Stover Wilbur Russell Gerald Prindle Ralph and Clarence Bingle.
We express gratitude to everyone who offered help during the illness and funeral of our wife and mother. Warren Stevens and Family.
Devotional services are held each Thursday during Lent at Christ Lutheran Church at 7 30. The pastor speaks on prayer with different groups providing the choir each week. Brotherhood led singing last week. Queen Esther class leads this week. After devotion, a pastor led class in the Junior room covers Christian faith fundamentals.
Miss Florence Holden of Carey now a Bliss College student in Columbus plays forward for the Bliss basketball team. She is in the shorthand program and belongs to the Bliss Phi Delta Girls' club, staff of the Mirror, and formerly editor of Carey High School's publication.
The funeral for Mrs M J Mitten who died Friday in Tucson Arizona will be held this morning at St Marys Catholic church in Tiffin. Burial will follow in St Marys Cemetery north of Carey.
The January and February committees will host a birthday social for the Pythian Sisters at the hall this Thursday evening. Members and friends are invited.

Stella Mae Bloom Stoody died at her home on West North Street Friday morning after a brief illness. Born January 6 1885 near Carey she married Harry Stoody December 21 1912. Survived by husband and siblings Eugene Bloom Russell Bloom and Mrs Cart Raber. Funeral Sunday 2 30 pm at Memorial Evangelical Church with interment Spring Grove cemetery.

A baby girl Joyce Elaine arrived Sunday morning to Mr and Mrs Henry Brown at their Frederick street home. The Greek family near town welcomed a daughter last Thursday morning. Relatives report a son born to Mr and Mrs Harry Rook of Findlay, Mrs Rook formerly Barbara Lytle of Carey.
Mrs Elia Smith of W Findlay street won a $5 reward offered by Mrs Leonard of E Findlay street for finding the hymn Sacred Spot in an old United Brethren hymnal. The hymnal had been given to Mrs Smith by her uncle John R Mincer who lived south of town and ran the Mincer saw mill. he died in 1884.
Harriet Criger daughter of Mr and Mrs Alya Criger of this place underwent a mastoid operation Saturday evening at Findlay Home and Hospital. The procedure was performed by Dr Fisher. Harriet is getting along nicely.
Williiam Pontius and wife share a letter from their son Ralph, a supervisor on a large sugar plantation in Herrera Oriente Cuba. He reports 18 tractors across 25 000 acres, days of 10 to 18 hours, two mechanics and four helpers, loading over 100 cars daily with about 28 tons per car, and hopes for dry weather to ease the mud.
William Long 75, son of David and Eliza Long, died Friday at 2 p m in Greenville hospital after a two year illness. Born Sept 2 1855 in Salem township he married Jessie G Gilger Oct 9 1879 and had one son Roy who died in infancy. Survived by wife sister Mrs Sara Sisley Conneautville Pa brother Charles Long Greenville. funeral Sunday 2 p m at Hadley home with Rev H Brown officiating. Interment Hadley Cemetery.
A large congregation witnessed the unveiling of the new reredos at the Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Paul R. Clouser delivered the dedication, followed by vesper service and a choir program led by Miss Bernita LeMasters, Miss Catharine Canfield, and Mrs. B. L. Wallace of Marion. The gift came from the choir with brass candlesticks donated by the Wonder Bible class.
Carey firemen held their annual banquet Monday evening at the Knights of Pythias hall with a fine meal, dancing, and card games. Guests included wives and families of the firemen, and local residents Mr and Mrs David Ogg and daughter, Mr and Mrs L W De er wester and daughter, and Marshal Robert O'Connor.
Superintendent W J Arnholt approves evening schedule with high school entertainment starting at 7 30 pm and Lenten services at Christ Lutheran and MFE churches ending in time for residents to attend the concert.
The regular WA meeting will be held Friday at 7 30 pm at the CNE of O hall. All members are urged to attend and stay for the social afterward.
A. G. Collet held a horse sale Tuesday with a good turnout and strong prices. One horse sold for as much as 230 dollars, while the rest brought solid bids from attendees.
The Carey Grange will hold an open session at the K of O hall on Vance Street Wednesday March 4 at 8 15 p m The program includes Star Spangled Banner music by Jason Traxler a vocal duet by Mr and Mrs A S Kuenzll a musical reading by Violet Culver a piano solo by Sylvia Hall installation of officers by Mifflin Grange and a drill by Mifflin Young People. The Carey high school boys basketball team made a fine appearance amid harsh editorials toward the feminine subjects.
The Cleveland News photo feature shows the dirigible Los Angeles and its officers departing Lakehurst New Jersey for Panama. Lieutenant Maurice M Bradley, son of Mr and Mrs W G Bradley, is one of the officers aboard. The Los Angeles is Uncle Sam's largest aircraft sent to engage in war maneuvers with the fleet.
A vocal trio from Upper Sandusky Mrs Georges Denman Miss Marian Bowers and Miss Helen Stecher will sing on WAIU Columbus Sunday from 800 to 830. accompanist Mrs Florence McEidowney also of Upper Sandusky. Mrs Denman is the daughter of Mr and Mrs R H Griffith.
The county W C T A will hold a regular service at the county home on Sunday afternoon March 1. Rev C F Brouse pastor of the Reformed church at Sycamore will preach the sermon.
Miss Rita McCormick daughter of Mr and Mrs J C McCormick of Carey and Mr Howell Jones of 105 Heineman Blvd were married at Central Methodist church in a 7 pm ceremony officiated by Rev Oscar M Adam. They plans to reside at 630% West Fourth Street.
Twenty seven members of the Carey Kiwanis Club traveled to Fostoria on Tuesday evening to join the Fostoria Kiwanis Club at In a Ways cafeteria. The Carey high school orchestra provided music and the program featured G M Kurtz solos and Rev R J Turrell speaking on Hard Thinking for Hard Times. Dr Harding of Bellevue and lieutenant governor of Ohio Kiwanians attended and addressed the group. Howard Snyder presented the treasure chest from Carey to Fostoria and President Shuman of Fostoria Kiwanis closed the gathering with brief remarks.
Earl Green Post American Legion holds its regular meeting on Tuesday evening March 3 with speeches by J J Saslavsky state adjutant from Columbus I E Kubie from Avon Lake 5th district vice commander and Harry E Burkett from Fostoria former vice commander Music by the Kiwanis quartet and open invitation to all Legionaires and eligible men. There will be eats.
The Big Drive a time travel era show by the American Legion drum and bugle corps screens at the Strand on Wednesday and Thursday March 4. It features real life tableaux from Lusitania port departure to the armistice celebration in Paris Rome London Brussels and New York including the Crown Prince in action.
Levi Hendricks, 75, died at his home in Selinsgrove, prompting tributes from brothers Paur Hendricks and William Hendricks of Vanlue. Burton Hendricks of Findlay and John Hendricks traveled to Selinsgrove on Saturday for the funeral held Monday.
