School News Highlights and Dismissals

Seniors will take a tuberculosis test given by Dr Naus of Upper Sandusky on Monday afternoon. The school will dismiss Thursday and Friday due to rationing. High school girls assist with registration. A mouse theme debut entertained the assembly with D A R members watching. A general knowledge test ran Wednesday from 1 38 to 3 30 with dismissal and results pending.

Basic Military Training Course Offered for Youth

Carey boys and men aged 16 to 38 may enroll in a national basic military training course sponsored by the United States government and run by the American Legion. The 12 week program requires 3 hours once weekly and awards ratings for induction credit. Register at Shafer's garage Krupp's harness shop or Scoarse's barber shop between February 26 and March 8.

Garey Community club marks 1926 birthday event in Wyandot county

The Garey Community club hosted its annual birthday program in Methodist church parlors with about 60 attendees. Mark Karr led the welcome as Rev B L Lee and Mrs Verna Lane of Nelsonville spoke on guidance for teachers. Rita Brown and John S Welsh provided music, and committee names were announced for the March gathering.

Red Cross War Fund Drive Opens March One in Carey

The 1943 Red Cross War Fund drive starts March 1 with a citywide house to house solicitation in Carey. Quotas include 2600 for Carey 285 for Crawford township 200 for Ridge township and 11300 for Wyandot county with all gifts due at once. Air raid wardens will lead canvassing in their districts and a free film will be shown Friday night at the courthouse in Upper Sandusky to explain the drive. A follow up meeting is set for Monday at the municipal building.

Benefit Dance Supports Local Legion Training

The Moose Hall hosts a public dance to aid Baril Green Post 344 American Legion in funding a basic military training program for men aged 16 to 38. Equipment costs about 460 dollars. government aid is unavailable, so funds come from local posts. Rebecca Jean Lear performs dancing and tumbling, Buckeye Entertainers provide music, 9 to 12 p m, 10 cent admission, proceeds go to the Legion post.

Tuberculosis Patch Testing Planned in Wyandot County Schools

The Wyandot County Health and Tuberculosis Association funds a school patch testing program for 1st and 12th graders during the first two weeks of March. Parents must sign permit cards sent home. no child will be tested without a signed permit. Tuberculosis is a germ disease caused by the tubercle bacillus, not inherited, and is curable and preventable though not by vaccination.

Moose Initiation Highlights Carey and Fostoria Candidates

A Moose initiation involving Carey and Fostoria candidates followed the regular lodge meeting in Fostoria Tuesday evening. About 30 candidates were initiated with Carey supplying most participants and the Fostoria team displaying strong state competition. Past Governor P J Pahl spoke on lodge procedure as lunch and entertainment flowed after the event.

The infant Robert Edward Fleere was baptized at Our Lady of Consolation Church with Fr Joseph Herp officiating. Sponsors were Miss Rita Brown and Cpl Leo Vaughn. Robert weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was born at Findlay hospital. Pvt Fleere serves in the U S Army at Sioux Falls S D and Mrs Fleere, formerly Mary Louise Vaughn, stays with her parents east of Carey.
