Carey Fete Highlights Civic Leaders and New Directors
The Carey community held a large Bosses Night at Carey High School with officials and civic-minded residents attending. David Myers welcomed attendees and outlined past energy initiatives while stressing a $15 million dayfoundry project pending labor actions. Five new directors were elected to the Carey Development Corporation and David Myers was re elected president. The Jaycee Distinguished Service Award went to Orien Wilgus for his work with the Harmony Shop and Carey Fire Department. The meeting featured a speech on the Jaycee Creed and the role of service to humanity. A Labor Survey for Dayton Malleable Iron Co. was outlined with offices set in Bucyrus and surrounding towns. A slide presentation documented the Carey Day- to- Dayton trip showing the firm’s modern automation.

The Carey Kiwanis Club held a Pancake Supper at Christ Lutheran Church raising about 155 dollars as noted at a regular meeting. Clarence Hagley thanked members and credited Wendells Myers and Donelson Packing for their participation. Garden Club Plans State Flower Contest Entry
Carey Garden Club met at the home of Mrs Clarence Hoops to discuss new flower varieties and the upcoming 1966 All American Gladiolus and Mums selections. Members reviewed Sunsets Cosmos and many other blooms, noted plantings for the year, and planned the June 9 flower show with the theme This Is Your Life. The meeting included a poetry reading Planning a Sprig Garden and a dish garden contribution from members. Volunteers were named for show preparations and community outreach.

Robert F. Welsh Graduates From State Patrol Academy
Robert F. Welsh of W North Street graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy in Columbus on Friday February 18. He joins 33 cadets in the 69th class who completed 14 weeks of training and will be assigned to patrol posts statewide. Principal speaker Quinn Tamm lauded Ohio for training facilities. a class song On the Road was composed by Welsh and performed with him directing. The ceremony drew 700 attendees and post ceremony refreshments were served in the new dining hall. Welsh will be stationed at Greenville Post.
