Fire Loss At Phillips Far Exceeds Estimates
A farm barn at Orville and Mrs. Phillips five miles northwest of Carey burned Wednesday morning. The 40 by 80 foot structure, wired 15 years ago, destroyed 6 White Faced Hereford cows, a bull, 6 sows with 45 pigs, eight hundred bales of straw and 700 bales of hay, equipment, and wagons. Loss estimated between 15 000 and 20 000 dollars with most covered by insurance. New Riegel volunteers helped. Neighbor Harry Van Horn alerted the property. The fire left escaped hogs and damaged pump house walls. west wind could have worsened damage.

Eastern Star members will appoint Mrs Bradbury of Gallipolis as superintendent of the new Star home for aged members in Mount Vernon. The first section costs 600000 and will house 72 by May 1. Carey High Seniors Shine In State Scholarship Test
Three Carey High School seniors placed in the Senior General Scholarship test taken January 28. Jack Twining scored 192 placing 7th in Wyandot county, Sandra Gunother scored 187 placing 10th, and Edward Grubel received an honorable mention with 173. Twenty-one local students participated as subjects covered included English history mathematics science reading and language.

The Y-Teens met February 21 exchanging gifts and planning Tuesday’s dance. Diane Hotelling led entertainment with a twirling act by Karen Keller and David Bingle, a pantomime by Margie Tucker and Mary Mullholland, and poems by Suzie Krupp. A white elephant sale raised nearly $10, featuring a two week old puppy bought by Connie Hill.
