On February 19 the Carey chapter inducted new members and elected officers: President Glenda Snyder resident Charlotte Tucker secretary Glenda Gunther treasurer Tom Atkins news reporter Rose Marie Davis. Induction followed talks on leadership scholarship character and service. Seniors John Welsh Barbara Elbert Norma Powell. Juniors Marlene Lee Joyce Myers Joan Sargeant Helen Mott Nancy Bauer James Patterson.
A school wide free throw contest at Colonel Crawford School crowned Henry Cole as building champion after he scored 20 baskets in the 25 shot event. Winners in each grade included Roger Newcomer Dennis Mundy Charles Dasher Larry Walters Phillip Ogg, all earning gold medals. Henry also received a gold medal and a sweater bearing the school name on his birthday.
Freshman and sophomore home economics classes recently produced aprons using sewing machine attachments. Students gathered the waistline attached the band hemmed the ties and sewed bias tape around edges in one class period.
The ICL held its February meeting on Monday afternoon with president John Romig presiding. Program committee members Ann McCarley and RoxAnna McCarley discussed Roman dress and styles, noting a preference for modern American life over ancient Rome.
The French Club held its second meeting of the new year on Monday February 11 with president Gene Myers calling the session to order. Virginia Van Buren and Betty Jackson led the program committee and presented a report on great French scientists and slides on France and other countries.
Forty six girls from the Carey H A Chapter with Miss Hack traveled by school bus to McCutchenville for a Valentine party. The hosts planned skit group singing circle games and dancing with refreshments. Carey participants included a duet by Dora Wilson and JoAnne Platt a piano solo by Barbara Riester and Erlene Schlachter recited a Soldier's Monologue.

T B Dromgold president of Peoples Bank Co announces resignations of Ray Richardson and Clarence Stock with Mrs Richardson and Mrs Stock assisting during transition. A new faster bookkeeping machine for deposits withdrawals and daily totals will issue green statement forms and print copies of checks and deposits for customer verification.
The village council approved pay raises for police officers and set the police chief’s salary at ten an nually with a village fireman at 3100. They discussed closing an alley west of a funeral home to heavy traffic and asked the post office to warn heavy trucks. Route 103 West Street will be paved 845 feet east of the village, with 75 percent funded by the state and 92.88 owed by the village. The fire call contract with Ridge township was reviewed, and a dust nuisance discussed with no action. Edward Krushang of Columbus pleaded guilty to drunkenness and was fined 10 and 8.60 by Vice-mayor Gibbins. Brice Cremeens of Columbus was fined 100 and 8.60, with 50 suspended pending good behavior. Both arrests were by Police Chief Pleracini and Officer Jacob.
William V. Carr of Seneca county received a bronze award at a Clinton township school banquet sponsored by the Northern Ohio Breeders' Association. The honor recognized his outstanding record in producing oranges and legumes to improve Seneca county agriculture.
Bernard Furniture announces a Maple Room display on Vance Street featuring cherry and maple furniture from Ethan Allen and H Willett. The refurbished space showcases maple and cherry pieces for shoppers.
Newton Carey Memorial Park board will receive applications for pool supervisor cashier and life guards for the 1952 season. Gail Newhall president.
A Thursday through Friday program lists Washington's Birthday observances with student performances, readings, and songs from West, Col. Crawford, and Central teachers. Highlights include 4th to 6th grade musical numbers, a caisson song, prayers for world peace, and door prize drawings. Notable contributors include Miss Eleanor McChesney, Rev. Samuel L. Shockey, Dr. H. R. Cotterman, and Rev. Theodore Eickholtz.
Pvt. Elza Needles and Pvt. Roy Plott have arrived at Camp Breckinridge Kentucky to begin 16 weeks of basic training with the 101st Airborne Division. The first eight weeks cover infantry basics map reading scouting and patrolling while the next eight may lead to specialist schools or continued infantry training. The division is led by Major General Ray E Porter.
A compiled roster lists multiple service members with designations and locations. Entries include Pfc Edmond E Lanker at Tyndall AFB Florida Pvt William F Roberts at Sheppard AFB Wichita Falls Texas Pvt Dean McLaughlin at Sampson A F B New York Pvt Wilbur Dennison at Camp Gordon Georgia Pvt Earl Dean Risner at Fort Myer Virginia and other service numbers and posts in California Virginia and Texas.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 8 p m Monday February 25 in the Legion hall. Mrs J A Vaughn will present the Americanism program. Nine new members will be initiated: Mrs McKinnon, Mrs Robert Wickham, Mrs George Billock, Mrs Jennie Shue, Mrs Dorothy Thom, Mrs Alvin Clouse, Mrs Russell Wickerser, Mrs Earl Stevens, Mrs Anthony Fabiani, and Mrs Roy How and. Members are urged to bring their cancelled sales tax stamps.
The Carey Farmers' Community club will host its annual Ladies' Night banquet at 6:45 p m Monday February 25 at First Methodist Church. Guest speaker is Mrs Mary Lou Pfeiffer a noted institute speaker and director of women's activities at radio station WRFD.
Russell L Wickiser joined more than 0 Buckeye State Mutual agents at the annual meeting in Covington on February 7 and 8. He and his wife attended the dinner, received an outstanding production award for 1951, and became charter members of the Buckeye 62 club alongside other agents earning 62 policies in 1961. Only eight agents reached this record.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge No 656 holds a regular meeting on Tuesday evening February 26 at the I O O F hall. A benefit card party will follow with pinochle and euchre. members are urged to invite guests and bring a pin for refreshments.
The American Legion Auxiliary Ohio Department plans a charter bus to the mid winter conference in Columbus on March 8. A local unit will run the trip if 30 members commit. contact Mrs J L Reynolds at 125 Down Street phone 2674 by March 17.
Our Lady of Consolation basketball team defeated St. Josephs of Tiffin 46 to 4 last Friday afternoon at Tiffin. High scorers for Carey were Donald Strathias 18 points Jon Miller 15 and Edward Wentling 0.

Christine Louise Tiell infant daughter of Mr and Mrs A Tiell Jr east of Carey was baptized at 1 oclock Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev Dennis Herbst officiated with sponsors Miss Catherine Mell Alvada and James Gase New Riegel.
Harry H. Gibson 55 of 217 Melrose avenue died from carbon monoxide after starting a car in his garage. Coroner Dr. Paul Hohly ruled suicide by garaging, noting he arranged tools and coat to simulate an accident. Wife Eleanora found the running engine around 12:30 p.m. Services set for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Walker-Wenner Mortuary. Burial planned in Spring Grove cemetery Carey. Surviving relatives include his mother Mrs. Della Gibson and brothers Virgil, Lee, James, and sister Mrs. Helen Mullholand of Carey.
Members of Col William Crawford chapter of the D A R urge fuller recognition of national holidays by displaying the American flag in Carey business windows. They note fewer flags appear each year. Michael Bibich of Economy Market features a Lincoln birth day to Washington anniversary display with three oil paintings and a flag background.
C C Simonis Jr of Bethpage Long Island was separated January 17 from the U S navy after 17 months on the destroyer U S S Shoale DD693 home port Norfolk Va His tour included ports in England Belgium France Norway Denmark Italy Greece Sicily Gibraltar and the Caribbean He will retire after 11 years naval service with reserves expiring in October He was recommended for a lieutenant commission but chose to remain in the navy.
Breaks right hip Friday afternoon when sweeping off back steps at 410 E Findlay Street. Taken to Blanchard Valley hospital for X rays. Monday evening surgery to pin the bone. Wife also confined to wheelchair from a pre Christmas ice fall. initial X rays showed a cracked bone in her left ankle.
Mr and Mrs C D Sheridan of 648 W Findlay street will observe their 55th wedding anniversary Sunday February 24. Carey Ryder and Mrs Jessie Houk of Columbus will spend the day with them. No other celebration has been planned.
