Petition Drives Flasher Signals and Crossing Watchmen

Carey council met Monday to press New York Central Lines for four flasher signal systems at South Findlay North and Patterson Dow streets with eight hour watchmen at South and Findlay crossings. Representatives pledged a 30 day response. The meeting also planned water meter testing and lighting upgrades to allow angle parking. Two new workers were hired in the water and light department, including veteran Robert Young and apprentice Earl Vehrs.

Raymond Shaffer Discharged After 30 Months Service

Sgt. Raymond Shaffer of Vanlue received an honorable discharge on February 6 at Camp Atterbury Indiana after over 30 months in the Army. He served as a truck care instructor and spent a year at Camp Halm California with anti aircraft units and a year with the 201st Infantry West Virginia National Guard before transfer to Fort Knox with an armored division. He returned to his wife and son Dennis in Vanlue and resumed trucking and fertilizer selling.

Bradley visits relatives in Carey during transfer

Capt Maurice M Bradley U S N arrived in Carey from Washington D C forenoon Wednesday and stayed with his father W G Bradley until today at noon. He has served two years in the Bureau of Aeronautics and is now transferred to sea duty to command the naval transport U S S Clymer. The ship will operate from a California port and he hopes to move his family west.

Frederick Crist Served On Fronts In Normandy and Manila

Frederick D. Crist, a Fifth Grade technician, is returning to the United States under the army deployment plan after 50 months of service. Overseas since April 1943, he is authorized to wear the European Theater ribbon with one campaign star for Normandy, the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He serves as a depot painter with the 239th Chemical Base Depot Co in Manila.

Memorial Park fund drive seeks $25,000

The Memorial Park Boosters club will launch a $25,000 fund drive for War Memorial park. The project covers grading and beautifying a 25 acre site with a lighted football field seating 2400, baseball diamond, tennis courts, a children's playground and lighted horseshoe courts.

New officers were elected by the Luther League of Christ Lutheran Church at their regular meeting last Sunday evening. Elected were President Joyce Snyder, vice president Stanley Van Buren, secretary Shirley Snobarger, and treasurer Horace Newhard. Installation is planned for March 10.

Soldier Robert D Briggs Discharged After World War II Service

Robert D Briggs S1c son of Mr and Mrs Hever Briggs of Toledo was discharged at Shoemaker California February 5 1946 after entering February 11 1943. He spent 12 weeks at Great Lakes and served across the ocean five times earning the Good Conduct Medal European African Campaign and American Campaign ribbons along with the Victory Ribbon. His brothers Donovan in the U S Coast Guard at Salem Massachusetts and Herschel discharged from the US Army in North Carolina are noted.
