Carey council met Monday to press New York Central Lines for four flasher signal systems at South Findlay North and Patterson Dow streets with eight hour watchmen at South and Findlay crossings. Representatives pledged a 30 day response. The meeting also planned water meter testing and lighting upgrades to allow angle parking. Two new workers were hired in the water and light department, including veteran Robert Young and apprentice Earl Vehrs.

Raymond Shaffer Discharged After 30 Months Service
Sgt. Raymond Shaffer of Vanlue received an honorable discharge on February 6 at Camp Atterbury Indiana after over 30 months in the Army. He served as a truck care instructor and spent a year at Camp Halm California with anti aircraft units and a year with the 201st Infantry West Virginia National Guard before transfer to Fort Knox with an armored division. He returned to his wife and son Dennis in Vanlue and resumed trucking and fertilizer selling.
