Carey and nearby schools prep for Class B district tournaments

The Upper-Garey game was postponed until Tuesday February 25 at Upper Sandusky. Carey hosts St Wendelin while Cayugas meet St Wendelin in Carey. Junior rings arrive and tests week begins. Trophies and medals will be awarded at the Carey tournament with four games per day and all sessions at night.

A garden stage sets the scene for The Sunbonnet Girl with chorus and principals in country attire. The matinee served local pupils, and despite weather the evening show drew a large audience. New this year was high school orchestra accompaniment and praise for Miss Mary Finley’s supervision.

Carey Merchants Clear Rules for Merchandise Cards

Merchants in Carey face rules for one dollar prepaid tax cards and merchandise tickets. Prepaid cards must be bought from the county treasurer, carry the vendor name license number and address and be imprinted, not penned. Merchandise tickets in one dollar units are allowed, bearing vendor details and serial numbers, with tax due on sale price.

Death of John Henige A Carey Area Resident

Mrs Walter Carr and son William of Carey along with Joseph Henige and Tom Henige of Salem township attended the funeral of their brother John Henige who died Friday at the home of his daughter Mrs Roy Bowersock in Lima. Funeral services were from St Gerard's church in Lima. Mr Henige 79 was a former Carey resident. Mrs Hilda Schira of Carey and Clarence Henige of Toledo, niece and nephew, visited at the Bowersock home.

Mrs and Mrs W J Lefferson and daughter Frances attended the funeral of W H Lefferson at the family residence in Biglick township Hancock county. Lefferson died after 18 weeks illness. He served as justice of the peace in Biglick and was well known in Findlay and the county. He retired to his farm six years ago after years in Findlay business.

The Women’s Missionary Society of Memorial Evangelical church met at Mrs. Henry Daymon’s home. Mrs. Claude Johnson presided, prayers were led, and Mrs. Harry Bowman was named Mission Band leader with Mrs. Cora Hart as assistant. Current events were shared, a scripture lesson titled Daughters of Drudgery was presented, and The Pull of Prayer leaflet was read. The March meeting will be at Rev. and Mrs. N. W. Sager’s home.

Burglary Report At Eloise Thrall Residence

W G Riley and Paul Kelley found the kitchen window pried open at Miss Eloise Thrall's Findlay Street home. The house, left unfurnished since she stayed at the Galt Hotel, was ransacked with few items taken, likely by local burglars known in the area. Police and county sheriff investigated.

Bricker Rules On Wyandot Election Recount

Ohio Attorney General Bricker decided two election questions. He ruled that when two justices of the peace share terms but hold commissions with different dates, the earlier dated justice can name a person to fill a township trustee vacancy. He also held that a recount refund is not due if recount shows no error of at least two percent, even if later contest changes the result.
