Crawford High Calendar Hints At Activities And Events

School notes list upcoming events at Colonel Crawford including basketball tournaments February 20 27 28 lyceum course February 26 and March 5 inter class tournaments March 9 PTA March 19 a high school play benefit March 31 racket club event and exhibitions by Crawford township women. Vocational home economics and spelling contests feature, with students earning holidays and prizes for wins.

Unveiling of New Reredos at Christ Lutheran Church

A reredos designed to harmonize with the altar will be unveiled at the vesper service Sunday at 4 30 at Christ Lutheran Church. The gift of the choir the piece was built by the Tiffin Manufacturing Company. The Wonder Bible class donates the brass candlesticks for the altar. Mrs B I Wallace will sing and Miss Katharine Canfield and Miss Berita Lemasters will perform. Mrs Walter Myer will preside at the organ with Pilgrims Chorus and selections from Tannhauser Dvorak Nevin and Gounod. Community members are invited.

Farm Bureau Meeting Highlights From Crawford Ridge

The Crawford Ridge Farm Bureau met on Wednesday evening February 11 with delegate Paul Krupp reporting on the state meeting held in Columbus during Farmers Week. The program included vocal trio performances, recitations by several local members, a vocal duet, and a luncheon served to about 95 participants.

Dible and Bame Wed in Spencerville Home Ceremony

Miss Gladys Dible daughter of Mr and Mrs Willis Dible of Mc Cutchenville and Galen Bame son of Mrs Vertie Bame of W Main street were married last Wednesday at 2 pm in the home of Rev H L Burtchin in Spencerville. The couple used a single ring service and were unattended. The bride wore king blue crepe and will reside on a farm northwest of here after March 1.

Delightful Visit by Betty Jane Lambert in Carey

Sunday afternoon Mr and Mrs J Melbourne Roberts of Birmingham Michigan visited Mr and Mrs G W Bish. Mrs Roberts known to radio listeners as Cheer Fairy Betty Jane Lambert and Miss Julia Hayes on WWJ Michigan. The visit was a real cheer fairy trip to Carey to meet long time friend Mrs Hallie Bish after years of correspondence.

Mrs George Bennet Dies in Riverside After Cataract Operation

Mrs George Bennet of Riverside California died Friday noon at San Bernardino hospital after cataract surgery. She was the last of her family. Her husband died nine years ago and daughter Maud, wife of Joé Ridenour, died last October. One grandchild and son in law Joe Ridenour survive. Mr Bennet ran a local creamery over thirty years ago.

Two Fremont Teens Held After Citywide Grocery Robberies

In Fremont a holdup at Sanner grocery on Vance and South streets netted $35 after two boys demanded cash with a gun while the proprietor and his uncle were alone. Police traced the crime to Joseph Thill and George O’Dell, both 17–19, who also confessed to four similar robberies and six car thefts. The suspects, linked to cars stolen in Findlay and Toledo, were identified by victims including Ralph Sanner and H L Myers.

Carey Farmers Community Club Banquet At M. E. Church

About 75 attended the Carey Farmers Community Club banquet in M. E. church parlors last Thursday evening. Grand march and hand shaking preceded dinner served by church ladies. Mary Field Hendrix of Clarksville spoke on Joys of Farm Life praising farm women as America's greatest. Swan of Wayne County offered humorous remarks and clergy gave impromptu talks.

Mrs Reinhart 98 Celebrates Quiet Birthday at Carey

Mary Ann Reinhart of West street turned 98 on Sunday and lives alone since her husband’s death 52 years ago. Born in Luxembourg in 1888 she emigrated as a child and remains active attending Our Lady of Consolation church daily with six children, sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Three Burglaries Reported After Monday Night Break-ins

Carey area saw three burglaries staged Monday night with damages at R B Perkins Lumber, Ruffing's service station, and Standard Oil bulk station. A total about $129.04 in cash and a $45 shotgun were stolen from the lumber office. only a shotgun and candy were taken at Ruffing's. the oil bulk station had a door broken but empty-handed. No clues, believed amateur burglars.

Women’s Missionary Society Meets at Evangelical Church

The Women’s Missionary Society of the Evangelical church met Tuesday evening with president Mrs Henry Daymon in charge. Members led by Mrs Hendricks discussed Pastor’s Wives and foreign women devoted to Christ. The next meeting will be the third Tuesday in March led by Mrs O L Peters.

Albert T Wangler 45 brother of Mrs Bernard Gabringer of Tiffin died this afternoon at Mercy hospital Toledo after a two week illness. Death due to pneumonia his mother Mrs Jacob Wangler Adrian and widow survive. Also left are several brothers and sisters and Ursuline nun sister Mary Alma. Funeral at St Theresa's church Toledo.

W C T U Meeting Sews Carpet Rags for Soldiers

The W C T U met with president Mrs L M Cook for a regular session. Mrs Cook led devotionals and Mrs George Krider led prayer. About 25 pounds of carpet rags were sewn for soldiers at Dayton. Lunch was served at the end.

MRS FE M BECK Died After Prolonged Illness

Lida Viola Beck born near Marseilles September 20 1880 died February 9 1931 at age 50. She married Ernest M Beck December 2 1916 and leaves six children two step children her mother six siblings and a host of friends. Her last testament speaks of readiness to go and her faith in the Lord remains a central memory for family.

Ralph Snyder topped Elmer Powers 230 to 228 to become local champion after last week’s Recreation Bowling Alleys event. National Lime teams played a Wednesday night match as Badies invite is open to a few bowlers. Collier Giants from the Big Four office will face Carey All Stars on Saturday February 21 at 1 30 pm. The alleys will move in early March to a portable 20 by 100 foot room on the Trubey lot near Shafer's garage.
