Burned Dry Goods Blaze at H B Kutz Sons Store
Sunday morning E Wonder found The H B Kutz Sons store filled with smoke after a mantle support on a gas light broke and fell onto a table of woolen goods. A coal stove placed temporarily under the table due to gas shortages caused the fire, burning cotton items while woolens only smoldered, narrowly preventing bigger loss. A prior similar incident had occurred weeks earlier in a different dry goods store involving a loose mantled support. A clerk detected the odor of smoke before damage spread.
