Carey Council approves highway and utility upgrades

The Carey council Monday discussed state highway improvements on Vance Street from the Penn Central Railroad to North Corporation Line, with a $2,000 village share. The Highway department provides installation labor and blacktop lift. Right of way to General Telephone for a new line north of the Dutch Mill and east on old Route 23 was approved. Findlay Street access was condemned and awaits remedy, with owners warned to appeal to the fire marshal within three days if needed.

Conservation Club to Show Films in Carey

The Carey Conservation Club will show two films on February 21 at 7 30 p.m. titled Trapshooting with the Remington Pros and Skeet Shooting with D Lee Braun. Refreshments are available and the public is invited. The club sits 3 ½ miles east of Carey on Mitten Road. A members trophy shoot follows on February 22 with breakfast served at 9.00 a.m.

Thefts Reported At Elevator In Alvada

Lloyd Weinandy of Alvada reports a series of thefts at the Alvada Elevator. Last week items missing include ten batteries a pair of boots a pair of gloves rain gauges pens pencils and soft drinks. In two November incidents the elevator cash drawer was robbed of 30 once and 55 in another instance.

Carey Exempted Village Board of Education names the elementary library after Charles E Hall in recognition of his service. The board discussed vocational education plans due by April 1 1970 and considered enrollment rules. They approved year end staff assignments and explored a possible temporary elementary principal.

One Car Accident Investigated in Wyandot County

A one car crash on county road 29, 5.6 miles north of Upper Sandusky and 2 miles east of state route 199, occurred at 3:45 a.m. February 14. Charles T. Dill of Carey said a right front tire blew out causing loss of control. the car totalled, striking a fence and damaging 93 feet of fence and two posts.

Petitions filed for Wyandot County commissioner and auditor seats. Dale Myers seeks re election as commissioner with Harold Shu man opposing on the Republican ticket. Dale Gottfried runs on the Democratic ticket. Edward L Beard seeks re election as county auditor. A 2 mill health department levy is on the ballot for five years starting 1971.
