The men who were here finishing the Hocking Valley coal dock have completed their work and moved on. They installed a crusher that prepares the stoker coal for the engines, enabling automatic feeding and reducing the fireman's labor to lever manipulation and ash disposal.
Dave Silverstein returns to Carey and reopens the family junk and poultry business on South Street behind Johnson and Miller’s garage. The company now operates as the Silverstein Junk and Poultry Co. and will buy poultry and eggs as well as junk.
The Strand show featured Mrs. L B Secfeld singing Ben Bolt and her support by W J Powell of Wellington, performing Home Sweet Home, enhancing the charm of On to Every Woman on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
The Highland Park Times reports the creation of Col. Oscar A. Janes Camp Sons of Veterans and Julia Mead Janes Tent Daughters of Veterans in Highland Park. The Grand Army plans to transfer duties to the Sons as G A R winds down. Mrs Nettie A Smith serves as president and her daughter Miss Caroline Smith as musician in the Daughters of Veterans.
The population at the Ohio Penitentiary on February 4 stood at 2,079 the highest since federal prisoners were admitted in 1909. Twenty four prisoners were admitted Friday, the largest single day intake under the current warden.
Mrs. W. B. Hoff and daughter Miss Irene attended the Cresline funeral of their cousin William Werner, a prominent local citizen. Mrs. F. J. Simonis Norbet Brown and Charles Myers also traveled to Cresline for the services last week.
A new Ford touring car owned by Thomas McNutt was stolen Saturday night and recovered Wednesday morning in Bluffton. Ohio license 1922, tag 192227, was found with the two numbers cut. Officials traced it from Vanlue to Bluffton as a car with the same description moved through Hancock County. The thief fled south and remains at large as investigators intensify efforts to arrest him.
The W C T U met with Mrs. L G Ranger. They held a prayer and scripture lesson, sang hymns, and conducted a Frances Willard memorial program. A Carey county institute is planned for March, with delegates named and $2 donated to the memorial fund.
Hon R Clint Cole of Findlay Ohio spoke in New Haven Connecticut on McKinley day. The New Haven Union praised his masterful address calling suffrage a great agency for national welfare and well being.
Rev. W S Culp former Methodist pastor of Vanlue died at his home in Columbus Grove where he served as pastor. Cause of death was paralysis after a short illness last Thursday.
The Sycamore Farmers Institute will be held at the Alma Theatre on Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 26.

Miss Dorothea Whaley and Mr and Mrs Mark Karr attended a county Shorthorn Breeder's Association banquet at the Bon Ton in Upper Sandusky on Tuesday evening. Speeches were given by Miss Whaley, Dr Betz of Nevada, Dr Cliffe of Upper Sandusky and County Superintendent Allgyer.

A man whose identity is unknown bought a bushel of potatoes from Samuel McMichael’s grocery on Saturday night. He paid with a $20 check signed by Fred Stein and received cash for the difference. The swindler never returned. McMichael checked the horo scope and contacted Mr. Klein who denied knowledge of the man. A description is on file for identification.
Clarence Neidig and Charles Hehr opened a modern garage at the rear of the Stoneburner Bringman Co. store in Upper Sandusky. Both men are young and experienced. Neidig spent two years on aviation motors in the service. They are well known in Carey.
Bloomdale High School defeated Carey High School 39 to 30 in a Friday game. Bloomdale led by 9 points in the second half after a close first half. Carey travels to Nevada for an away game tomorrow evening.
Lloyd Rife moved from the Wh. Best farm in Salem to the Robert Hetzel farm in Crawford. Hugh White, previously on the Hetzel place, moved to the J. J. Stoll farm.
Roy Kirkwood and John Wherle have received the deer heads they had mounted in Bangor Maine as trophies from their Maine winter expeditions.
Mrs Clara Platner district deputy from Tiffin will inspect the Pythian Sisters this evening. A birthday social will follow the inspection.
H. H. Weck sold his Lake street residence to Nicholas Kinn of Alvada. Kinn takes possession on March first. Weck plans to build soon.
Masons finish prick work on the new school building for the first floor cement pour. Work advances on the structure as Wednesday forenoon marks a key milestone.
The Chamber of Commerce will enjoy its annual banquet at the Galt Restaurant Friday evening.
Varl Harris arrived in town from Toledo for a visit on Tuesday, meeting local residents and stopping at several businesses during the day.
Countywide gathering reviews aims of 4-H style club work for boys and girls ages ten to eighteen. B B Spohn promotes practical projects, enrollment runs Feb 15 to May 1, with a March 7 to 12 club week and publicity through schools. Township leaders named include Antrim, Crawford and Ridge, Mifflin, Marseilles, Pitt, Richland, Salem, Sycamore, Tymochtee.
Sycamore stockholders and Liberty Airless Tire Corp officers met at the Hotel Carter to discuss a proposed merger. Airless would invest about 650000 cash to support plant and equipment with the mother plant in Carey and production focused on the airless tire. Officers present included R. S. Giles D. W. Hayes G. Gilmore Frank Lattimer George Ash and Francis Quinn. Gilmore is the tire inventor and a demonstration car with these tires was shown.
The Missionary Society of the United Evangelical Church met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Jilza Jacobs leading the lesson on Evangelical Missions. President Mrs. C R Tate presided and Mrs Jacobs organized a Craft Roll department with herself as superintendent. The next Self Denial meeting is set for the third Tuesday in March with Mrs Henry Daymon hosting.
