The Patiic School cagers travel to Upper Sandusky for league play with two games set at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. The same evening the annual high school operetta Sunbonnet Girl debuts February 18 at 8:15 in the high school auditorium with a large named cast and chorus preparing eagerly.
Sophomores tour Carey main streets to observe house types from bungalows to brick and Dutch colonial Then imagine lawn improvements and shift to interior studies arranging kitchens living rooms curtains rugs and color schemes Freshman foods class studies vegetables cooking methods and why some are cooked with or without covers.
Temperatures rise slightly in Carey easing three week deep freeze. Snow expected today with strong winds. Water department struggles as about 30 meters and several lines remain frozen. Ground frozen 40 to 42 inches and coal shortages loom unless shipments arrive soon.
Mrs. Fred Mitchell chaired the Aid society business meeting at the local Methodist church. The Missionary society then met with Mrs. George Shuman presiding and reading rationals on Brotherly Love. Scripture readings were given by several members, temperance work reported by Miss Gilliland, and readings by other members followed. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.
Ernest Dunn, basking in Florida sun at Miami, sent Carey friends a photo showing two King fish he caught. He wears a straw hat despite 16 below zero on the thermometer, arms extended with a 15 pound and a 20 pound King fish dangling from each hand.
Mrs M H Thomas and Miss Frances Schubert attended the funeral of Rev R Leatherman of Union City Ind. His death was quite sudden. He was 48 years old and well known here having assisted at revival meetings at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren northwest of town at four different times.
The officers and members are asked to be present Friday evening for initiation followed by a pot luck. By order of the President.
Debtors are urged to call at the residence of W R Zeis to settle any outstanding accounts. The notice invites all who acknowledge debt to come forward and arrange payment.
The W C T U will hold a Friday afternoon meeting at 2:00 oclock at the home of Miss Mattie Myers.
Firemen answered a blaze in the boiler room behind the Strand theatre at the New Galt Hotel complex. Chief cited a defective pipe in the brick chimney as the cause with asbestos covering fallen away in a hard to reach area. Owner N E George of Fostoria notified. manager Wagenknecht says State Fire Marshal inspection was last summer.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Coppler died at their Burson block home on S. Vance Street due to congenital heart trouble. Born November 12 1935 she lived three months. Funeral at Our Lady of Consolation Friday 9 30 am with burial in St. Marys cemetery. The body will be moved from Bristoll funeral home to the Pieraccini residence on Clay Street for viewing. Survived by parents Florence Da Prato Coppler and Theodore Coppler and grandparents Frank Da Prato of Indianapolis and Alonzo Coppler of Carey.
Authorities checked the activities of Charles Williams 25 and his brother William 39 under arrest at Wapakoneta. Sheriff Weatherholtz of Wyandot and Deputy Steinmetz of Seneca led the inquiry. The brothers, from Lima, lived south of Tiffin from 1935 April to December and were captured at Moulton last week. Police investigate ownership of grain farming implements furniture found with them in northern Ohio counties.
William J. Gottlieb of the New York Automobile Club reports motor vehicle taxation in the United States rose to about 1.3 billion dollars in 1938, averaging 50 dollars per each of 26 million registered vehicles.
The Lutheran men’s annual chicken supper is set for next Tuesday evening at 63 16 o’clock in the parish hall. Hon. John F. Kramer of Mansfield will deliver a brief program and speech after the meal. Admission is by ticket and the event ends by 8 15.
District No 10 QOES Eastern Star plans a Nevada gathering on Saturday February 22 with the worthy grand matron of Ohio presiding. Initiatory work will be shown by officers from district chapters. Mrs G M Kurtz Crawford chapter Carey leads Adah party, and reports of Crawford lunch plans are requested by February 15 to Mrs Ross Johnson.
Mr and Mrs W H Rickle who lost their home south of town three weeks ago moved to a farm north of Wharton they recently bought They were honored by neighbors with a kitchen shower at Beech Grove United Brethren church south of town on Tuesday evening
Sergeant Augustine of the state highway patrol spoke to the Kiwanis Club at the Pilgrim House Monday evening on Safety on the Highways. Ralph Hamler introduced the speaker, a Find lay division sergeant from the patrol.
The C I O class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday schools will meet Friday evening at the home of Mrs Robert Gardner on North Street. Mrs John Sheridan will assist hostess. A good attendance is desired.
The choir of Christ Lutheran church will hold a bake sale Saturday February 16 at the rest room. Proceeds support church activities.
C G Knoblock chairs district committee at Carey parish meeting. Upcoming court of honor set for March 27 in Upper Sandusky with Judge Russell H. Kear presiding. Camporal planned for June 22 and 23 with a campfire court June 23. District committee bi monthly meetings scheduled next for April 16. Troops 22 29 sponsored by Carey Kiwanis and Hart Green Post awarded ribbons at Marion area expo. over 3500 attend. Local troops aided by National Lime and Stone and Porcelain Products companies.

Mrs. John Kloopfer reports a letter from her son Ray Thatcher of Van Nuys California describing the milder winter weather he is enjoying. He says it is very different from the cold conditions here, according to The Carey Times.
The engagement of Edward Riester Jr son of Mr and Mrs Edward Riester Sr to Ruth Mullholand daughter of Mr and Mrs H J Mullholand has been announced in the social column.
Mrs. George Sherman, 76, of Frederick Street, fractured her hip after a fall last Saturday. She was transported to Findlay Hospital on Tuesday by Bristoll ambulance for treatment.

A 9 pound son Robert Joseph Jr. arrived last Thursday to Dr. and Mrs. R. J. Semons of Carey at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin. The newborn and mother returned home Wednesday. Earlier a 9 a half pound son was born Sunday afternoon to Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Romig, two and a half miles west of town.
The tax books for Carey and Crawford townships were opened at the treasurer's office in Upper Sandusky for property owners to pay taxes. Pitt, Marseilles and Mifflin townships also have their books open.
The Christian Mothers will hold a sauerkraut and spare rib supper and host a dance at the Catholic hall on Thursday evening February 20. Excellent local music will accompany the event and the public is invited.
A special meeting of Carey chapter No. 4595 R. A. M. will be held Thursday evening for the annual inspection. District lecturer Fred L. Garhart of Marion will conduct the inspection. Dinner is served at 6 30 PM.
There will be no evening service at Christ Lutheran church this Sunday. On February 28 there will be a 4:36 o’clock Vespers with a special musical program by the choir.
