Death of Glenn M. Carothers after illness of influenza

Glenn M. Carothers died at 27 in Carey after a week of influenza and pneumonia contracted during a stay with the Seilheimer family at Tiffin and White. He leaves a wife Henrietta Sellheimer and several relatives. the private funeral was held at his home with Masonic pallbearers, burial in Bigelow cemetery.

Maccabee Ladies Navy Wins More New Members

The Maccabee Ladies membership contest ends with the Navy section captained by Mrs. George Wolfrum adding 10 new members, while the Army section led by Miss Lulu Snyder gains 7. The two sections will dine in army style at a Friday banquet at their hall.

Eye injury prompts medical check for blood clot

Jesse Stombaugh returned from Tiffin after eye examination shows a blood clot inside the eyeball and a dislocated eyeball position. Doctors will reassess after the eye returns to place to determine damage and whether the clot will pass.

Death of Mrs Susan Will widow of Peter Will

Mrs Susan Will widow of Peter Will, longtime Carey merchant in grocery furniture and hardware, died Tuesday February 4 after a period of poor health. Her body rests in a vault and next spring will be taken to Plat Rock Ohio for burial beside her husband who died in 1914.

Jacob Wolfe sold his 22 acre farm four miles south of Carey near Beech Grove to Roscoe Ward for 2700 dollars. He bought W. J Newhard’s Brown avenue house and lot for 1000 dollars. His son and daughter-in-law Francis and Mrs Sample will live with him. Grant Karr was the real estate dealer.

Chimney Fire Burns Roof of East Ten Street Home

Sunday evening about 10 30 A M Ryder saw smoke on the roof of the East ten street house occupied by Mr and Mrs Urban K Kokenge He alarmed the fire department but Mr Kokenge extinguished the flames himself The chimney soot had ignited sparks that burned a small patch on the roof

David Miller age 82 died Sunday at the home of his daughter Mrs. David Ross in Bellefontaine. He was formerly of Mexico and the obituary notes his long life and family ties.

Second Burglary Suspect Captured After Train Escape

Russell Greer, recently released from military service, burglarized H L Tracy’s pool room in Carey stealing 95 dollars and four watches. He used a loud train to cover the break in and fled toward his father’s home, where he was found, jailed, freed by mistake, then arrested again and confined in Upper Sandusky pending the next court term.

Carey Chamber of Commerce Meets, Enrolls 27 New Members

Enthusiastic gathering at the Carey library last Thursday added 27 new members to raise the total to 61. Dues are 3 dollars yearly with a 1 dollar fee, receipts noted, and an executive committee was named. Another meeting is scheduled for this evening as work begins through committees.

Funeral attendance for Mrs Mabel Fenn at Clyde

Mr and Mrs Joseph Wright Mrs Charles Nachbur Mr William Weyborn and Mr Seth Kear with son Russell from Wharton traveled to Clyde to attend the funeral of Mrs Mabel Pawsey Fenn who died of influenza and Bright's disease. She was the daughter of Alfred Puwsey a former Carey resident and leaves her husband and young son. Her husband was away in Alabama hunting when she grew seriously ill.

Homecoming for Corporal Calmes of 147th Infantry

Corporal Alfred Calmes of the 147th Infantry, 37th Division, son of Mr and Mrs John Calmes near Adrian, returned Sunday morning from Camp Sherman with an honorable discharge awarded Saturday. He was gassed on October 18 but has nearly recovered from his wounds. Calmes served overseas and returned with the 403 Casual Co aboard the S S Canada.

Hurd Couple Return From Toledo After Minor Operation

Mr and Mrs D Hurd returned last Saturday from Toledo where Mr Hurd had a slight operation and received treatment He is somewhat improved and recovering.
