Carey Hosts Wharton in Fast Rivalry Night Show

Thursday night February 11 Carey will host the strong Wharton quintet in a fast exciting game amid a heated rivalry. Added attractions promise spectator amusement with Parents Night offering free admission for players’ parents and special recognition. Only two more home games remain, so audiences are urged to attend.

Operetta Cast Begins Practice for Cherry Blossom

The operetta cast started rehearsal for the presentation titled Cherry Blossom. Directors and cast members are preparing standard chorus numbers and principal roles ahead of the upcoming performance.

An unwelcome visitor entered a high school last week and seized two teachers and several students. The intruder, identified as Old Man Flu, has released captives and plans to target others thought to be susceptible to illness.

Community Institute opens for high school students

The first session of the Community Institute was held Friday morning replacing the usual assembly. Rev. Roy B. Leedy led devotionals at Memorial Evangelical church. Shellhouse Sisters sang on Hawaiiian guitars. Stanley B. Stowe spoke on Dreamland with Richard Wenner and Henrietta Jacoby as King and Queen. King’s court included Paul Ewing Wilford Emerine Robert Strahm and John Jacoby. Queen’s court featured Dorcas Baker Betty Bowman Marjorie Kramer and Carolyn Gottfried. Mrs. Florence M. Eichmeier of McClure closed with a talk on happiness and the road to success.

Carey High Downs Marion St Marys In Debut League Clash

Carey High defeated Marion St Marys 24 to 17 in their first meeting. Emerine led with four two point goals, Orians and Frederick added points, and the Cayugas outscored the Saints after halftime. Carey reserves also beat Marion reserves 25 to 15.

Carey Community Institute Elects Officers

The 1937 Carey Community Institute is remembered for practical speakers and local talent. Attendees enjoyed entertaining morning and afternoon sessions while a Saturday business meeting voted profits from the event.

Funeral for Anthony Bakies at Our Lady of Consolation

Last Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. funeral services were held for Anthony Bakies twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Grover Bakies who was drowned in the Lakeland pool the previous Wednesday. Rev Paul Vollrath O M C celebrated requiem high mass. Burial followed at St Mary's Cemetery north of Carey. Pallbearers were Edward and Robert Bakies Jack and Joe Mullholand Daniel O'Done and Robert Windau. Floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.

Wyandot County Music Festival At Salem High Tonight

Salem hosts the Wyandot county music festival with about 150 voices from eight high schools in Eden Harpster McCutchenville Marseilles Nevada Wharton and Sycamore. Bluffton college Professor Russell A Lantz will guest conduct. No admission. a collection will be taken.

Construction started this week on a 14 by 18 foot, 50 foot high corn cleaner and cob storage bin at the Carey Farmers Cooperative Co elevator. In the future, people may drive to the bin and have cob containers filled free of charge.

Fatal Accident Near Wyandot Bridge Kills David Kear

David Kear dies from a skull fracture after a single vehicle crash on Route 23 near the Wyandot county home bridge. Lester Smiley and Vera Hile suffer serious injuries. Hile later survives with a fractured collarbone. Funeral services set for Thursday at the Methodist Episcopal church in Carey.

Vanlue Fire Company Seeks Reorganization Meeting

Dairymen Meet at Pilgrim House for Feeding Program

The Carey Mill and Elevator Co held a dairy meeting at the Pilgrim House on Wednesday evening last week with 50 dairymen present. George Boyer of Ralston Purina Co spoke after supper on a profitable feeding program for calves to milking cows, claiming it guarantees cheaper milk. The talk was enjoyed by all attendees.

Ranger Farm Sold at Sheriff Sale to Risner Brothers

Last Saturday the 201 acre farm west of Carey from the Emma Ranger estate sold at sheriff sale to John and Calloway Risner for 310150. The property valued at 72000 was rented by Vernon Phillips of northeast Carey. John Risner runs a barber shop on Dow Street and Calloway farms north of town, a property the brothers bought last week.
