Thursday night February 11 Carey will host the strong Wharton quintet in a fast exciting game amid a heated rivalry. Added attractions promise spectator amusement with Parents Night offering free admission for players’ parents and special recognition. Only two more home games remain, so audiences are urged to attend.
The operetta cast started rehearsal for the presentation titled Cherry Blossom. Directors and cast members are preparing standard chorus numbers and principal roles ahead of the upcoming performance.
An unwelcome visitor entered a high school last week and seized two teachers and several students. The intruder, identified as Old Man Flu, has released captives and plans to target others thought to be susceptible to illness.
The first session of the Community Institute was held Friday morning replacing the usual assembly. Rev. Roy B. Leedy led devotionals at Memorial Evangelical church. Shellhouse Sisters sang on Hawaiiian guitars. Stanley B. Stowe spoke on Dreamland with Richard Wenner and Henrietta Jacoby as King and Queen. King’s court included Paul Ewing Wilford Emerine Robert Strahm and John Jacoby. Queen’s court featured Dorcas Baker Betty Bowman Marjorie Kramer and Carolyn Gottfried. Mrs. Florence M. Eichmeier of McClure closed with a talk on happiness and the road to success.
Carey High defeated Marion St Marys 24 to 17 in their first meeting. Emerine led with four two point goals, Orians and Frederick added points, and the Cayugas outscored the Saints after halftime. Carey reserves also beat Marion reserves 25 to 15.
The 1937 Carey Community Institute is remembered for practical speakers and local talent. Attendees enjoyed entertaining morning and afternoon sessions while a Saturday business meeting voted profits from the event.

The note thanks Carey Times children merchants and distributors and notes plans for a 1938 institute with a Friday library meeting to settle accounts and set dates and speakers.
Emergency flood relief prompts the institute to request aid for Red Cross. officers elected for next year include President Wendel Wentling and Vice President L C Pratt. Poster and prize winners listed for 7th to 8th grades, kitchen and sewing awards, with amounts and recipients among Carey Community Institute participants.
Rev Paul R Clauser leads Lent and Holy Week services at Christ Lutheran Church with Sunday matins at 9 30 and Wednesday evening sessions at 7 30. Topics include Saving Effects of Christ's Passion and The Necessity of Repentance Faith Conversion and Prayer. Holy Week features Maundy Thursday Lord's Supper Good Friday service and Easter Sunday early service with Baptism and Holy Communion.
Last Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. funeral services were held for Anthony Bakies twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Grover Bakies who was drowned in the Lakeland pool the previous Wednesday. Rev Paul Vollrath O M C celebrated requiem high mass. Burial followed at St Mary's Cemetery north of Carey. Pallbearers were Edward and Robert Bakies Jack and Joe Mullholand Daniel O'Done and Robert Windau. Floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.
The Grover family thanks neighbors friends and relatives for help during the death of their son and brother. They thank the choir Sisters Rev Fr Vollrath and undertaker Goff for consoling words services and floral offerings.
Salem hosts the Wyandot county music festival with about 150 voices from eight high schools in Eden Harpster McCutchenville Marseilles Nevada Wharton and Sycamore. Bluffton college Professor Russell A Lantz will guest conduct. No admission. a collection will be taken.
Construction started this week on a 14 by 18 foot, 50 foot high corn cleaner and cob storage bin at the Carey Farmers Cooperative Co elevator. In the future, people may drive to the bin and have cob containers filled free of charge.
Lester S Norris of Columbus Ohio conference director of religious education will preach at the Methodist Episcopal church service this Thursday evening.

Mr and Mrs Virgil Kennerley sold their house and three Lovell lots to T R Moser of Salem. Current occupants are Mr and Mrs B B Gregg.
David Kear dies from a skull fracture after a single vehicle crash on Route 23 near the Wyandot county home bridge. Lester Smiley and Vera Hile suffer serious injuries. Hile later survives with a fractured collarbone. Funeral services set for Thursday at the Methodist Episcopal church in Carey.
Resolutions of respect passed by Carey Aerie No. 2198 Fraternal Order of Eagles on February 9 1937 in memory of David H Kear a member whose faith hope and loyalty earned esteem Sympathy extended to his family and minutes and newspaper copy sent The Carey Times secretary Geo Remlinger.
The CIC class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet at Mrs J P Newhard Jr home on East Findlay Street at 730 Friday evening. All members and guests are asked to bring baby pictures. Assisting hostesses are Mrs W E Cole and Mrs Paul Powell.
The W. C. U will observe Frances Willard Day Friday at 2 o clock in the afternoon at the home of Mrs. Elmer Wonder.
Mare Orians, tied to Winford Ogg in the Wigwam billiard parlor, purchases the Bow and Arrow in Upper Sandusky.
Mrs. B H E Brown of south of town visited Mrs. Gertrude England and Mrs. Ella Kinney last Tuesday.
The Vanlue Community Fire Company will hold an open meeting at 8:00 PM Thursday at Vanlue High School to reorganize elect new officers and raise funds to pay the small balance on the apparatus. All subscribers to the truck purchase may vote, and citizens are urged to attend to protect future fire protection and recover already paid sums. The Carey Mill and Elevator Co held a dairy meeting at the Pilgrim House on Wednesday evening last week with 50 dairymen present. George Boyer of Ralston Purina Co spoke after supper on a profitable feeding program for calves to milking cows, claiming it guarantees cheaper milk. The talk was enjoyed by all attendees.
Last Saturday the 201 acre farm west of Carey from the Emma Ranger estate sold at sheriff sale to John and Calloway Risner for 310150. The property valued at 72000 was rented by Vernon Phillips of northeast Carey. John Risner runs a barber shop on Dow Street and Calloway farms north of town, a property the brothers bought last week.

The Women s Home and Foreign Missionary society held its monthly meeting at Christ Lutheran church parish house on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs Carl Heck led the devotional and Mrs F A Galbroner supervised the lesson titled Living Missionary Lives in the Neighborhood.
Mixed dance Friday February 12 at Moosehall Findlay features Ray Starner Ohio champion fiddler and Celina band Great Lakes Round Dance with C W England calling. Greatest attendance reported in northwest Ohio.
Paul Lea of Bucyrus deputy collector of internal revenue will visit the water and light office in Carey Friday February 19 to assist taxpayers in preparing their income tax returns.
Mrs Harry Pierce of Nance Street is confined to her home with a painfully injured left knee after a fall at the home of her sister in law Mrs Jo Erle Smith in Findlay.
The WBA will host a sovm at their hall on Friday evening February 12. A program will be broadcast and lunch will follow with the usual games. Admission is 10 cents, including lunch. Everybody welcome.

Last week Charles Bernard Marjorie Orins Bernard Kessler Florence Mitten Robert Lamberjack and Pauline Babies achieved perfect scores in arithmetic. Piorence Mitten and Robert Kessler scored perfect marks in English.
Two pupils in our room won the Institute Poster prizes Robert Smith first place Charles Bernard second Three cheers for our room.
