The seniors have selected their formal invitations and are placing orders this week. Rev. W. L. Muller of Wooster sang and spoke at last Friday's assembly, delivering an inspirational address that pleased the audience.
The play Big Hearted Herbert impressed Tuesday night with strong performances led by Miss Woodford the director and lively intermission music by Charles Iden Henrietta Iden Cora Ellen Schira and Joan Myers Carey loses to Calvert with Calvert leading the League of Six Nations standings Vanlue is defeated 28 to 12 Carey B team beats Vanlue 28 to 12 and Carey plans to play Upper Sandusky Friday. Also notes 100 percent spelling awards for Evelyn Hinebaugh Ruth Wenner and Beatrice Watson.
Several third graders are making posters for the Farmers Institute while a spelling review lists students including Donald Burks Cicely Claude Chris Craft Joie Craft Philip Craig Herbert Dible Russell Fagan Jo Anne Frazier and others. The project and participants reflect classroom activities and community education.
The list shows Rich ard Conley Janis Bingle Mary Ann Joseph Patsy Laird Beatrice Pres ler and Donna Lou Wonder achieved perfect spelling grades last week at the local school.
Walter Dee, a Marysville high school graduate, named manager of the new $85,000 Organic Products factory at Carey. The plant is a branch of Smith's Agricultural Chemical Co. of Columbus.
The Exhibits Committee outlines cash prizes and sweepstakes ribbons for a corn show and various fair categories. Prizes cover corn, popcorn, potatoes, apples, grains, soy beans, hay, eggs, quilts, hand work, bugs, canned foods, cake, bread, cookies, doughnuts, sewing, dresses, blouses, skirts, blue ribbons, and more with specific amounts and entry rules.
The Carey Community Institute boosts participation with banners and prizes. Exhibits from area farms and residents welcome entries by February 18 at the schoolhouse auditorium. Top corn, dressmaking, and farm product prizes aim to attract shoppers and boost community spirit.
The annual community event adds extra awards this year with free admission to the Saturday night program for well made posters. Poster committee will distribute entries to merchants and display them prominently to encourage pupils and highlight their important role in the institutes success.
The Women of the Moose held the first series of their open pinochle tournament at the Moose hall with good attendance and high score prizes awarded to Mrs Clifford Neff and John Cole. The second series is set for 9 oclock next Tuesday evening and all are welcome.
Mrs John Laird was brought to University hospital Columbus for a major operation after a weak start. A blood transfusion and treatments stabilized her enough to proceed with surgery Wednesday at 9 30 in the morning.
Banns for the approaching marriage of Miss Mary Ellen Miller of Salem township to Raymond Lamberjack of west of Carey were published for the first time Sunday at Our Lady of Consolation church.
Section I of the Fidelis study club will meet this Thursday evening with Mrs Russell Wickiser south of Carey. Facts about prominent Catholic laymen will be given as roll call responses. A new lesson study on The Sacraments will start at this session.
Carey newly elected Mayor P A Hendricks spoke to most of the Carey Kiwanis Monday at the Pilgrim House. He listed projects including a new town hall and street repaving on North and South, plus storm sewers for several streets. Fireman shifts were adjusted with Henry Pieracini as alternate, and the night crew was rearranged to free a patrol captain for wider area coverage.
Carey pinochle players start Monday play at the Galt Hotel. Grover Snyder and J A Vaughn on the American Legion team led scoring with 769 points. Standings after first night list LEGION 2 651 and Moose 2 655 among others with next Monday set to begin at 8 o clock and players urged to arrive on time.
During Farmers Week at Ohio State University Columbus Duane Kromer a sophomore from Carey high school ranked among the top 10 in potato judging He is the son of Mr and Mrs Paul Kromer from north of town The Vanlue high school team placed 3rd and the Upper Sandusky team 5th in the event.
A daughter was born Tuesday to Mr and Mrs Wilford Altman at their home on East North Street. A daughter was born Sunday night to Mr and Mrs Graham Riley in Mercy Hospital, Tiffin. The Rileys are former Carey residents.
Richard Frederick reports a flock of wild geese flying north over Carey on Wednesday afternoon. He notes several other flocks sighted in the area in the past few days.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary society of Christ Lutheran church will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Paul R. Clouser. Mrs. Ruby Criger will lead the lesson study.
Benton Illinois farmer Hickman Whittington, 68, offers to redeem a haunted house at no cost. He pledges to enter alone and sit in darkness until a ghost appears, then recite a Biblical text to drive it away.
Beginning Monday evening February 14 at 8 o'clock farmers in the Carey school district may join a free 10 night course on care and repair of farm machinery. Sessions run at least 90 minutes each night except weekends. Bring a mower to Schmidt machine shop or come without machinery to 8 pm Monday.
The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary society met Wednesday afternoon at Anna Snyder's home. President Mrs Edward Riester Sr led the session with scripture read by Mrs H B Keller and the Lord's Prayer. Fourteen members and two guests attended. Mrs Mark Karr led the lesson on Rural Churches and Our Newer Americans. March meeting planned at Mrs H B Keller's home.
The C I C class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will hold its monthly business and social meeting at the home of Mrs Gertrude Tate on Friday evening February 11. A 5 cent Valentine exchange will be held and Mrs Roy B Leedy will assist as hostess.
Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2198 announces a district initiation Sunday at 2 PM. A class of candidates will be initiated with an out of town degree team handling the work. The 3 D Jug Band of Findlay will perform a floor show afterward. All brothers urged to attend.
Vernon Greenlee of Columbus and Mrs Lucille Greene of Tifln were married in Covington Kentucky on February 3. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Clint Puchta of Carey. The couple will reside in Columbus.
Citizens are asked to bring any copies of the Loyal Moose lodge by laws to J T Stombaugh or the Carey Times office. The by laws were printed about twenty years ago and have since been mislaid.
The K of C hosts a fish fry supper on Friday February 11 at the Catholic hall with dancing later in the evening.
Seventh and eighth grade pupils invite parents and friends to a class demonstration on Friday February 11. The Grade 6 English unit features a class newspaper and a spelling review list of 14 pupils earning 100 percent. Sister Mary Dolores R S M diocesan music supervisor from Toledo will visit today.
The section announces a biweekly honor roll for first grade students with separate A and B lists in arithmetic and spelling. It invites families to check the page for all names and notes the new format will appear every two weeks.
Knights of Columbus members gathered at the Catholic hall for a fish fry on Friday February 11. The event will be prepared and served by the men, continuing a longtime practice. John Pahl reported progress on new club rooms, with moving in soon planned.
Rosemary played in a piano recital held Friday evening on North street with pupils of Mrs. George Constien of Findlay. She performed Dance of the Automata and By the Waters of the Minnetonka. The recital was a decided success. Mr and Mrs Harry Rook attended.
The Christ Lutheran church gathered Sunday forenoon and refused to accept Rev Paul R Clouser’s resignation. Instead the congregation passed a resolution urging him to remain, while he has received a call from Bucyrus Lutheran church.
The Wesleyan Guild class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet at the home of Mrs Wallace Dible Monday evening February 14. Mrs S W McChesney, Mrs Samuel Gunther and Mrs Vernon Huston will assist as hostesses.
Rev Glen Robinson of Wharton will lead revival services at Crawford ME church starting Sunday evening with services each evening next week.
Henry Cole and Miss Mary Shaffer of southwest of town were married at 3 o clock Friday afternoon in the MoE church. Rev Marion E Tins ler officiated.
The W. C. T. U. will observe Frances Willard Day on Friday at 2 pm in the home of Mrs. H. B. Keller. Tea will be served.
