Carey High School Concert Band Plans Second February Show

The Carey High School Concert Band presents its second of three concerts on Tuesday February 13 in the Nevada High School auditorium. The program features Mellordramer Nelle the Farmer's Daughter narrated by Ann Dible with Joyce Myers on piccolo and Sally Jaster as program narrator. A display of instruments precedes an 8:00 pm start and admission is free. The following day February 14 the band performs in the local school auditorium.

Wyandot County Senior Scholarship Test Postponed

The Senior Scholarship test scheduled for Saturday February 3 has been postponed to Saturday February 10. The exam covers 40 percent of all Wyandot county seniors.

The scheduled game between Calvert and Tiffin at Carey was canceled due to bad weather. Officials cited a heavy current-events schedule leaving little room for makeups.

Valentine Dance by F H A Opens to All Upper Grades

The F H A presents its annual Valentine Dance on Monday night February 12 inviting all students in the upper four grades. Carey High School Swing Band directed by Lewis Hawk features the program along with musical readings tap dancing vocal solos humorous monologues and recreation. A popular vote will crown the King and Queen of Hearts.

1951 Caryatid yearbook staff nearing completion

The 1951 Caryatid staff reports half the annual reached Gray Printing with 44 of 68 pages completed. No school on Friday February 2 allowed extra work and they pressed ahead all day. The second half is due March 1 and delivery should occur in May.

The Carey Y O basketball team boosted its win count to 21 by beating the famed Upper Sandusky MW Rockets 67 to 61 on home court. Paul Orians and Bill Dennison led scorers as CY O then edged Ottawa Oak Leaf Cafe 72 to 61. They head to Ottawa again next Sunday to face K C team, with February 18 set for a Catholic hall double header against Findlay and New Riegel CYO.

Home Arts Display at Carey Community Institute

The Carey Community Institute hosts a Home Arts display with prizes for winners across categories. Exhibits may include knitted, crocheted, embroidered and tatted pieces plus various handwork such as quilts afghans rugs and table linens. Fire extinguisher saves home from fuel oil furnace blaze

An explosion in a fuel oil floor furnace at the home of Mr and Mrs Leo Karcher 34 miles west of Carey caused extensive smoke damage to downstairs wallpaper and furnishings. Mrs Karcher used a fire extinguisher to stop flames from the register before Crawford township fire brigade arrived.

Miss Margaret Haferd Leaves for London Mission

Miss Margaret Haferd of Cleveland, a week end guest of Mr and Mrs Ralph Haferd near Carey, is in Washington DC and will depart for London to join the American embassy as a librarian in the United States information service. Haferd previously served as librarian at Cleveland Public Library and spent World War II years in Munich and Frankfurt as an American Red Cross official.

Ritter Called as Naval Reservist After Exam in Detroit

L Ritter of 131 Newhard Street is in Detroit for a navy physical. If he passes, he must report at Great Lakes on March 6 to reenter the service. He served four years in World War II as chief radioman and has run a home radio repair shop since 1947. The Navy reportedly seeks specialists for the March 6 call.

E. W Mallholand was brought home to Adrian from White Cross hospital in Columbus after a 16 day stay. He underwent lung surgery Monday and is reported improved. He will remain at home several weeks. Mrs Mallholand had stayed with him since the preceding Friday.
