The Carey High School Concert Band presents its second of three concerts on Tuesday February 13 in the Nevada High School auditorium. The program features Mellordramer Nelle the Farmer's Daughter narrated by Ann Dible with Joyce Myers on piccolo and Sally Jaster as program narrator. A display of instruments precedes an 8:00 pm start and admission is free. The following day February 14 the band performs in the local school auditorium.
The Senior Scholarship test scheduled for Saturday February 3 has been postponed to Saturday February 10. The exam covers 40 percent of all Wyandot county seniors.
The scheduled game between Calvert and Tiffin at Carey was canceled due to bad weather. Officials cited a heavy current-events schedule leaving little room for makeups.
The F H A presents its annual Valentine Dance on Monday night February 12 inviting all students in the upper four grades. Carey High School Swing Band directed by Lewis Hawk features the program along with musical readings tap dancing vocal solos humorous monologues and recreation. A popular vote will crown the King and Queen of Hearts.
The 1951 Caryatid staff reports half the annual reached Gray Printing with 44 of 68 pages completed. No school on Friday February 2 allowed extra work and they pressed ahead all day. The second half is due March 1 and delivery should occur in May.
School dismissed Friday due to bad weather. Officials note they have extended instruction more days than many schools and emphasize staying open whenever possible.
American Protestant women gather for the 64th annual World Day of Prayer on February 9. They are urged to fast for 24 hours and keep a prayer vigil for peace, writing congressmen to seek divine guidance for lawmakers. Observance spans 92 countries.
The third annual Methodist Lenten family night suppers begin this evening at 6:30 with former pastor Rev. Roger Turrell of Kenton as speaker. Suppers run every Thursday during Lent. attendees bring a covered dish and table service, Coffee and butter provided. If unable to attend, come for the 7:30 program.
The W B A notion Carey review No 27 will meet at 8 pm Friday in the Moose hall. Good attendance is urged. In future reviews will meet the second and fourth Fridays each month at 8 o'clock sharp in the Moose hall.
The Carey Band Mothers host a bake sale on Saturday February 10 starting at 10:00 AM in Dible's Plumbing Shop. Items include chicken eggs noodles and assorted baked goods. Public invited.
The Carey Teachers Literary club hosts Dr Aletha M Hervig from Findlay College as guest speaker this evening at 8 00 pm in the high school auditorium. Public invited to attend.
Earl S Burson attended a state directors meeting of the Ohio Aberdeen Angus association at the Neil House in Columbus on Wednesday of last week. Mrs Burson accompanied him and also spent the day in the city.
The P. R. S. club will meet this Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Wallace Ruehle of Adrian attending as host.
The Carey Y O basketball team boosted its win count to 21 by beating the famed Upper Sandusky MW Rockets 67 to 61 on home court. Paul Orians and Bill Dennison led scorers as CY O then edged Ottawa Oak Leaf Cafe 72 to 61. They head to Ottawa again next Sunday to face K C team, with February 18 set for a Catholic hall double header against Findlay and New Riegel CYO.
The Carey Community Institute hosts a Home Arts display with prizes for winners across categories. Exhibits may include knitted, crocheted, embroidered and tatted pieces plus various handwork such as quilts afghans rugs and table linens. Four institute sessions are planned across Thursday and Friday February 22 and 28 with afternoon and evening programs.
An explosion in a fuel oil floor furnace at the home of Mr and Mrs Leo Karcher 34 miles west of Carey caused extensive smoke damage to downstairs wallpaper and furnishings. Mrs Karcher used a fire extinguisher to stop flames from the register before Crawford township fire brigade arrived.
The Priscilla Guild of Christ Lutheran Church holds a meeting this Thursday at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Richard Spayd's home 330 Findlay St. Mrs. Spayd leads devotions and Miss Ruth Riester leads the lesson. Members are asked to bring all sales tax stamps.
The Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge will meet on Tuesday February 18. Initiation will be held. Co chairs are Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Offenbacher. Social hour will be hosted by Mrs. Leo Beagle Mrs. Charles Hall Mrs. Della Carr Mrs. Mildred Longanecker Mrs. Mary Richardson Mrs. Carl Smiley and Mrs. William Warfel. A potluck follows.
The Carey JayCeeJays will meet at 8 p m Monday in the home of Mrs Kenneth Myers with Mrs Eugene Jacoby and Mrs R J Murphy assisting.
James E Gibson son of Sherman Gibson of EB North Street enlisted in the regular army on January 15 and was sent to Fort Knox Kentucky for training and assignment.

A four generation portrait features Dwight Yentzer of Adrian aged 27 turning 28 in March, his son Charles D. aged 1 in August 1950, Dwight’s father Lee Yentzer of north of Carey aged 56 in September 1950, and Lee’s father Jacob B. Yentzer of Wyandot Avenue Carey who celebrated his 81st birthday in November 1950.
Miss Margaret Haferd of Cleveland, a week end guest of Mr and Mrs Ralph Haferd near Carey, is in Washington DC and will depart for London to join the American embassy as a librarian in the United States information service. Haferd previously served as librarian at Cleveland Public Library and spent World War II years in Munich and Frankfurt as an American Red Cross official.
L Ritter of 131 Newhard Street is in Detroit for a navy physical. If he passes, he must report at Great Lakes on March 6 to reenter the service. He served four years in World War II as chief radioman and has run a home radio repair shop since 1947. The Navy reportedly seeks specialists for the March 6 call.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service of First Methodist Church will hold a meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday February 14 hosted by Mrs C C Thome with Mrs Harry Mapes and Mrs Clyde Jenkins assisting. Mrs J A Schira leads the devotional and Mrs Leslie Vesey of Fremont reviews Road to Happiness by Dr Norman Vincent Peale. Discussion will cover organizing a Wyandot Memorial Hospital guild unit.
Ohio Methodist bishop Hazen G Werner will deliver a broadcast sermon from Carey Methodist Church next Sunday morning. The statewide broadcast will be part of morning worship in all Methodist churches. listeners unable to attend may hear it on WEIN at 11 15 am.
The Carey Conservation League schedules a fox hunt for Sunday February 11 at 12:30 PM in Carey if tracking snow is present. Participants meet at the public square in Carey.

Carey firefighters were called to Mrs Alfred Mick on Dow Street where wallpaper near the chimney flue caught fire. Firemen quickly extinguished the blaze with little damage reported.

Defending Jr High Carey freshmen chase a second championship at Clyde this Saturday after beating Fremont St. Joe 25 420 and Gibsonburg 47 28. The team features Dwight Orians Stanley Platt Marvin Knowlton Aiden McKin non and John illock. Sycamore also won twice and knocked Clyde and Norwalk St Paul from contention.
The Carey JayCees marked their one year with a banquet in Gibbins' private dining room. Attendees included Carey Kiwanis and Lions members. Speakers were William Humphrey of Porcelain Products and Robert Crawford Findlay, with praise for the JayCees’ civic efforts and two annual projects.
The Woman's Society of World Service at Memorial E A B Church postpones the missions study class to February 15 at 10 a.m. in Gibbs dining room with guest speaker Mrs Vandersall of Amherst. She will present pictures from a trip to Germany and dinner reservations are due by Tuesday evening.
E. W Mallholand was brought home to Adrian from White Cross hospital in Columbus after a 16 day stay. He underwent lung surgery Monday and is reported improved. He will remain at home several weeks. Mrs Mallholand had stayed with him since the preceding Friday.
Monday evening February 12 at 800 o clock the Methodist Sunday school will meet in the home of Mrs Alfred Gardner. Mrs Clyde Jenkins and Mrs Clayton Twining will assist the hostesses.
Marys beauty parlor could not open due to shipping delays. Date for reopening will be announced later. Mrs Mildred Longanecker and Mrs Ray Tracy were awarded free permanents.
