Community Institute Opens With Talks and Slides

The Carey Community Institute begins this afternoon in the high school auditorium with exhibits and a program headlined by John Romig sharing slides from six months in Brazil. Friday features Mrs. Helen Younkman speaking on farm life and unfinished dreams, with door prizes led by local businesses and a $25 savings bond grand prize.

Fewer New Homes In Carey Declines in 1957 permits

Carey saw a drop in new housing permits over the past two years. In 1957 eight new house permits were issued, seven with attached garages and one without, compared with ten in 1956 and twenty one in 1955. Garage permits fell from sixteen in 1955 to eight in 1957. Remodeling permits remained steady around 25 to 30 annually. Commercial and industrial permits numbered six in 1957, versus three in 1956. A house was moved into town in 1957 and a church building permit was issued.

Supt Myers Attends Northwestern Educators Meeting

Superintendent D. W. Myers attended an education meeting at Ottawa School in Putnam county Tuesday. Administrators from Northwestern Ohio participated and a panel discussed science and mathematics in present day schools. A film strip was shown and remarks were delivered by members of the Ohio Book Men's Club.

Earl LeMott Accepts Head Bookkeeper Post

Earl LeMott a public accountant has accepted the position of head bookkeeper for J F Dible Co and began duties in February. A former Carey resident, he now lives in Columbus in a remodeled apartment on E South Street and will soon join his supervisor here.

Van Buren Pledges To Law Fraternity at ONU College

Stanley Van Buren son of Dr H K Van Buren is among Ohio Northern University College of Law students pledged to Delta Theta Phi a professional and social law fraternity. Stanley is in his second year. David Mason of Upper Sandusky a first year student was also pledged to the same fraternity.

January Meter Receipts Dip From Year Ago Total

January parking meter receipts reached 582 dollars, down 45 from 627 collected in the same month last year, according to Clerk Auditor Zenith McLarkey.

Three Carey Teachers Attend Conference

Former Bomber Crew Members Reunite Here After 1944 Missions

Mr and Mrs Allan Smith Jr hosted a reunion weekend for former B 17 crew members Alvin H Brown of Atlanta and Elmer Nutter of Cleveland. Brown was pilot and Nutter gunner on the Berlin raid in March 1944. Both men later pursued sales careers while Smith worked as turret gunner and Hess sales engineer.

Carey Blue Devils falter after strong start in loss to Marion Catholic

Carey Blue Devils led 22-17 after one, but Marion Catholic surged in the second quarter to take a 40-37 lead. The Green and White outscored Carey 26-16 in the second half, finishing 66-53 as Carey suffered its 12th defeat. Mike Kelly and Bill Wade led Marion with 29 and 26 points.

Three Foxes Taken In Hunt Sunday

The Carey Conservation League sponsored a second fox hunt on Sunday afternoon. Foxes bagged included three foxes credited to Ross Johnson, Richard Hucke, and Robert Baldwin. William Fox found a live raccoon to be tested by a state game protector. The league funds bounties for crows and foxes, currently five dollars for a fox. An election of officers is planned for Friday at 7:30 pm at the Legion Hall.

Mothers Collect 695 In Polio March Carey

The annual Mothers' March on Polio in Carey netted 695 63 dollars, just 25 98 below 1957. Many solicitors found no one at home and some blamed payday. Donations may be sent to Carey Times or Charles Reed, Upper Sandusky. John Greer and family raised 11321 in Crawford township canvassing, surpassing last year by 55 cents. Ridge township chairwoman Mrs Glenn Barger plans to continue with solicitors this week. Rex Huston was not listed among Carey marchers.
