The Molded Products Division will close the Carey Ohio Plant with phase out plans begun. Final closing date pending as product lines are absorbed by other locations.
Mary Jayne Lanning of Carey high school has been named 1969 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for achieving the highest score on a homemaking knowledge and aptitude test taken by senior girls. She will receive a Betty Crocker silver charm and her paper will vie state wide for a $1,500 scholarship. her school earns a Britannica set. National and state scholarships and future tours of Washington, D. C., and Colonial Williamsburg are part of the program with a growing prize pool anchored by General Mills and Britannica.
The Carey Blue Devils defeated Elgin 63 to 61 in a close NCC game. Odell Daniels led Elgin with 23 points while Jeff Snowberger and Roger Kloepfer paced Carey with 19 and 17 points respectively. Carey held a 38 29 rebounding edge and hit 28 of 23 field goals to Liberty Benton later.
In Maple Avenue Raul Salaz faced a court action from Gonyala Chavana after a February 26 knife incident at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Salaz paid a $200 fine with $150 suspended on good behavior and years of probation. Other defendants include William Smith for rapid acceleration and traffic signals with small fines and costs, Fred Lee Grindstaff for traffic signal charges, Willard Lee Hipsher Jr for traffic signal charges, and Eric Jon Hussey for rapid acceleration with fines and costs noted.
Lt. Governor Gal Leimbach of Kiwanis Division 2 Ohio addressed the Carey Club at Bowl-Era Restaurant. He reviewed Kiwanis themes for 1989 and noted the film strip and recording approach. The 54th Kiwanis anniversary theme is Stand up for Freedom. The club will again sponsor a boy to Boys State in partnership with the American Legion.
Wyandot County deputies responded to an abandoned house fire north of Upper Sandusky on January 28 finding two Molotov cocktail contacts. Four juveniles, three Carey boys ages 17 and one Carey girl age 17, were detained and later released to parents. investigation ongoing and charges expected in the arson case.
Seven year old Kevin Sullenberger suffered a forehead cut after being struck by a car driven by Lester Eckler who said he could not avoid the boy as he crossed the street at 6 21 p m January 22 on E South Street in Grove Street.
Paul McBride 62 of Route One Nevada died at 3 a.m. January 30 1969 at his home following a heart attack. He was born May 14 1906 in Antrim Township and married Velma Stiltner Neale on April 6 1940. Survived by widow daughter Nancy Platt three grandchildren sisters Flossie and Faye Sheaffer Russell Wilson Harriet Post. two brothers and one sister preceded him. He worked as a shipping clerk for North Electric in Galion and served 20 years as Antrim Township trustee. A Wyandot Baptist Church member and member of Nevada Lodge F and A M McCutchen Chapter 96 and Upper Council 98, charter member of Wyandot Rod and Gun Club. Funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lucas Funeral Home Upper Sandusky with burial in Nevada Cemetery.

The Carey Community Development Corp holds its second meeting to discuss Amerace Carey Plant closing and ways to retain employees. They plan to contact Amerace Corp and local utilities about selling or relocating the plant, and consider inviting a new industry to the Carey site.
The Carey Conservation Club held its annual meeting at the clubhouse on Sunday January 26. Officers installed include President Don Keister and Vice President Richard Phillips with other posts filled by John A Greer Walter Welly Harold McKinnon Harold Yost David Ealey Fred Bland Linus Frey Raymond Mitten John Welsh. Plans discussed include Easter Egg Hunt fishing derby and curbing vandalism on club grounds.
Mrs Josephine L. Wangler 88 formerly of 1022S Poplar Street Fostoria died Sunday in a Tiffin nursing home She was a member of St Nicholas Catholic Church Trenchtown Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Merit Services are at 10 30 am Wednesday in St Nicholas Church with burial in the church cemetery
A note of gratitude to friends and neighbors who sent cards flowers and gifts during recovery from illness at Blanchard Valley Hospital and afterward at home. Special thanks go to Pastor Cressman and Gina Allen for their consideration.
Knights of Pythias Justus Lodge 393 elected officers for 1959 at Castle Hall on January 28. Chancelor Commander John Lay and Glenn Muller as Vice Chancellor lead a slate with David Philips Master of Arms and Dale Weaver Financial Secretary among others. A meeting is urged for February 18 with all members invited.
Jean Ann Mathias was born January 21 at 10 30 am in Mercy Hospital Tiffin to Mr and Mrs John H Mathias of New Riege. She weighs 7 pounds 1 ounce and has brothers Danny and Jimmie. The Niederkohrs of Carey welcome an 8 pound 3 ounce daughter born January 23 in Blanchard Valley Hospital. Elza J Wright and wife of Carey announce a 7 pound 11 ounce daughter born February 1 in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Gary Burrill and family, former Carey residents, now in Spokane Washington, describe the city’s worst winter in 19 years with six foot drifts. Roofs collapse and streets and cars are buried. They pass time by painting and decorating indoors at 8707 Grace Ave Spokane 99206.
