Carey led 18 to 1 after the first period and 28 to 7 at halftime to beat Vanlue 52 to 17. Zahn scored 24 and Michaels 16 as Zahn totaled 171 points in 10 games this season. Carey reserves also played two overtimes, losing 21 to 20. Substitutes included Dunn, Turnbull, Mullholand and Ward.
The W M R N Marion station airs a short edrama titled One Girl Three Jobs Friday at 12 45 p m. The cast includes Irma Yost Rosetta Bessinger Virginia done Rita Kessler and Nina Kemberley with a brief audience appeal for tuning in.
Mrs. Orville Redd of near Jenera, who had an appendectomy on January 24 at Bluffton hospital, was brought to the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Fred Dible west of Carey Saturday afternoon. She is improving nicely and Sunday visitors included Heart Dible and son Billy J F Dible Wallace Dible Kenneth O'Brien Harry Dible and others. Mr. Redd stayed with them Saturday and Sunday morning at the Dible home.
Carey Kiwanis members after a meal and meeting spent an hour at the municipal building helping Boy Scouts with their scrap paper project. The effort proved profitable and enjoyable, with Scouts praised for diligent paper gathering and baling under supervisors.
Miss Margaret Haferd of Cleveland daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Haferd of east of Carey underwent an emergency operation Saturday evening at St Johns hospital Cleveland. She is progressing well and will stay in hospital for a few weeks. Miss Haferd is a librarian at the Cleveland Public Library.
The W G A will hold a White Elephant party Friday evening February 6 in the hall. Each member is to bring sandwiches.
The Pythian Sisters will meet at Castle Hall this Thursday evening at 7 30 oclock. All members are urged to attend.
A Wyandot county selective service board list names 9 Carey and 6 Upper Sandusky men subject to immediate call. Mr and Mrs Henry Ball of Upper Sandusky seek their daughter Sr M Rosalre who has worked with American Dominican missionaries near Foochow China. The mission station in a war zone was destroyed and relatives have heard nothing for months. Mrs Ralph Haford of Carey is also noted as a daughter of the Ball family.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will hold its regular monthly meeting next Monday evening at 8 oclock wartime in the home of Mrs D. D DeVene on E Findlay Street. Hostesses include Mrs W. H. Huston Mrs Clayton Twining and Mrs Paul Woods with Mrs Irene Bowers leading devotionals.

An Eagles event promises a patriotic theme with free eats and a souvenir defense stamp. Attendees are urged to arrive early for a Friday night gathering celebrating Pearl Harbor and a chance to win a prize.
Prize list announced by Carey Community Institute for a two day program at the high school on Friday and Saturday February 20 and 21. The schedule includes multiple awards though details are incomplete.
Mr and Mrs Gust I Wunderlin mark fifty years since their February 9 1892 wedding at St Marys Church Ft Wayne. They reside at the corner of W North and Lake in Carey with six children nine teen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr Wunderlin owns Carey Greenhouses and the couple moved to Carey in 1933 from Fostoria.
Charles Sworts of Salem township buys 80 acre farm four miles south of Carey from Edward Brown. Possession in spring with Brown family moving to Carey. Brown family to occupy West street house, while Brown and wife move to Clay and West streets house they own. The farm has been in the Brown family for about 80 years.
Relatives in town received two letters from Brother Lucian S D stationed at a mission in Koforidna Gold Coast British West Africa. One letter dated October and one January report he is well and safe. The mission keeps in touch with the war via radio and three hours after Pearl Harbor the news arrived. He reached Africa over a year ago and is acclimating and enjoying his work.
Gail Newell departed Saturday for a business trip to Glassboro New Jersey and will stay about a week to ten days. His brother in law Lee Yentzer accompanied him to Washington DC where he will visit his daughter Donna a United Airlines hostess.
The Carey Schools Band Mothers Club will hold a bake sale at the far office on Saturday February 14 starting at 10 o clock.
U S clocks will move one hour forward on Monday February 9 in compliance with Congress wartime timing. Carey school schedules and community activities adjust to the new time as train schedules and the post office operate on war time.
The Jennie Larmonth missionary society of Christ Lutheran Church will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Chester Vogel on Dow street. Mrs. Zack Montgomery will conduct the lesson study.
The regular meeting of Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge No 656 will be held Tuesday evening February 10.
The Carey schools will shift to a new schedule starting Monday February 9 advancing clocks one hour. Morning start 9 00 am with 9 05 am tardy, noon dismissal 11 55 am, afternoon start 12 50 pm with 12 55 pm tardy and 4 00 pm dismissal. Noon hour becomes 12 00 to 1 00 pm. Superintendent Earl B Driver notes farmers and workers aided by the plan and calls for full clock changes Sunday night.
At a Friday Carey rationing board meeting the following were approved to buy tires and inner tubes: David Ogg two inner tubes for corn planter Booton and Hosafros two tires and two inner tubes for a tractor Carey Live Stock Co one tire and inner tube for a toy iguck James Mullholand two tires and two inner tubes for a truck Ray P Hunter one inner tube for a tractor In a regular Tuesday meeting the Carey branch of the Wyandot County Farm Bureau was approved to buy two tires and two inner tubes for a gasoline truck.
Mrs George Snyder and other Crawford chapter members attended the Eastern Star district meeting at Crestline. Miss Elsie Howard of Findlay was elected district vice president.
The Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2 p m in the church parlors. Mrs C W Lanning announces an interesting program. Mrs Forrest Baker is missionary secretary and Mrs S R Bame presides, with the meeting moved to afternoon to accommodate more attendees.
Miss Jeanne Chapman daughter of Mr and Mrs C F Chapman has moved from Kent State University to Starling Loving University Hospital at Ohio State University Columbus to complete medical technology and pathology training and internship under the board of medical technology.
The Wyandot County Farm Bureau banquet will be served Monday evening February 9 at St Pauls Lutheran Church basement in Upper Sandusky. The time is 7 o clock old time or 8 o clock war time.
Mr and Mrs D A Dow and their son William announce a general farm sale to be held Tuesday February 24 at the Edward Riester Sr farm five miles east of Crawford as they prepare to move March 1 to a newly purchased farm.
Rev and Mrs Donald W Cryer invite Methodist church members and community friends to an open house this Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 o clock at the parsonage.
The initial mailing returns on the 2 054 dollar quota show both gains and shortfalls. Substantial gifts come from individuals towns and farms with strong support from business houses and professionals. Industry and railroad groups give sizable totals while religious fraternal and service units report well. The Boy Scout troop contributes 20 dollars and promises more from scrap paper sales. Yet many business houses have not donated and are urged to act. Carey and vicinity support the effort under the Community Chest plan but individual responsibility remains vital in this national emergency. Miss Mildred Williams returned from Alexandria Virginia after seven weeks with Mr and Mrs B C Bowling. She attended Christ Episcopal Church New Years Day service honored by President and Mrs Roosevelt Prime Minister Winston Churchill Lord Halifax and other notables. The Bowlings are members of Christ church.
Senior Girl Scouts of Troop I help with a Victory Book Drive by distributing posters to churches stores and downtown spots. Martha Ann Spensler leads the collection with volunteers delivering books to the Carey library when donors cannot reach it.
The Hendricks farm of the late John Hendricks, located 1 ½ miles northeast of Vanlue, was sold by public auction Friday afternoon. Five tracts were offered with bids by Paul T Fredritz for 68 acres at 3.25 and Claude Hile for 878 acres at 7.375. Attorney F K Cassel serves as administrator of the Hendricks estate.
The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Ralph Heck west of Carey. Mrs. Do P Presler will assist the hostess and Miss Theo Cooper will lead the devotionals.
Walter Pidgeon and Maureen O Hara star in How Green Was My Valley to be shown at the Carey Theatre on February 12 13 and 14 as a benefit for the Carey Philharmonic Society.
