The Gibson family of S Patterson street welcomed Norma Jean born on New Year’s Day. Mrs James Gibson and baby are reported healthy after the birth. In Boston Miss Gertrude Hoult recently had an appendicitis operation, with her mother and father at her side.
Head of large family, S. S. Smith of Springville, is 81 and has eight children, 36 grandchildren, and 41 great grandchildren. His first wife died in 1880. he remarried Susan Rowe and has four more children. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren are noted, with one child of his daughter-in-law dead and Russell Phillips as the first fourth-generation marriage last November.
Next Sunday morning the pastor preaches on A Rever sal of Human Judgments and in the evening continues Making Jesus Christ Real. Luther League topics focus on The Conquest of Selfishness led by Margaret Ann Pepvle and Fredericka Spencer. A choir supper is planned for next Monday night in the church parlors. A session tonight sends men to First Lutheran Church of Findlay for a 6:30 p.m. supper to discuss Wittenberg College Clean-up Campaign and church organization. Last Sunday was Building Fund Sunday with sizable offerings as men canvass for the building program.
The first meeting of the tractor short course class is set for Monday afternoon February 16 at 1 o'clock in the library east room. Students will discuss and then move to Riester's garage for hands on overhauling tractors. The program covers gas engines first and then tractors over 15 afternoons. The State University provides an expert and local expenses cap at about 150 dollars per man.
Local Red Cross drive led by Mrs F J Ruble has collected 111.70 so far, with the effort launched late yet yielding a gratifying result amid adverse circumstances.

The community learns Monday that Frank Orians of Crawford township died at his home from uraemic poisoning. He had been ill a year and bedfast two weeks. Funeral at St Joseph's church Salem township Thursday at 9:30, burial in church cemetery. He was the youngest child of Martin and Susan Orians, married Anna Smith in 1883, with seven children and 18 grandchildren.
Miss Irene Robison daughter of Mr and Mrs C F E Robison wed Wesley Wonder son of Mr and Mrs Harvey C Wonder at the Carey Methodist parsonage Wednesday at 5 o'clock in the presence of local friends A 6 o'clock dinner at the bride’s home followed The couple plan to live on the farm north of town Both are well known in Carey and receive many congratulations as they begin married life.
An enthusiastic M W of A meeting was held Monday night with District Deputy Brownmiller of Mt Gilead presenting a woodcraft talk. He will work in Carey for several days and attend next Monday night’s meeting to deliver a message. members should bring certificates for inspection. no rate changes implied.
Mrs Wm Sloman received a beautifully stitched table cover from her aunt Mrs Jane Harper of Battle Creek. Mrs Harper is 86 years old and the work features French knots and solid embroidery in blended colors. The gift is highly prized by Mrs Sloman.
Carey Farmers Institute will host a community fair Friday and Saturday February 27 and 28. Exhibits include manual training products fans clothing cakes and cookies corn wheat and small seeds. The event showcases local crafts and produce.
Relatives report the death of Clay Nye aged about 77 at Miles City Montana. A former Carey resident, he left the area about 20 years ago. His wife Belle Fickle survives.
The Strand screens The Tenth Woman on February 11 and 12, a Warner Bros classic. Every tenth woman at the box office will be admitted free.
The Catholic Knights of Columbus plan a board party and jovial gathering this evening at the Parish hall. Members and their families and friends are invited to attend.

Topics included raising district convention registration to five dollars Dayton selected as next convention site Buckeye official publication continued district trustees chosen and plans for itineraries to the St Paul convention.
Rev D L Caldwell, presiding elder, will preach Sunday evening February 8 and administer communion. Evangelistic services begin February 15 with the pastor conducting. An EL CE business and social meeting was held at Chas Tompson’s home February 3. The church board meets in the church prayer room Friday February 6.
Welby Nye son of Fred Nye of Dunkirk married Lottie Mick daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Mick at the Methodist parsonage in Monroe. The ceremony occurred Saturday with family and local residents in attendance.
The Pythian Sister chapter will host a chicken supper this Saturday evening February 7 starting at 4 70. Tickets are 30 cents.
In the Steller school district north of town patrons held their annual dinner early as many families near moving. Teacher Miss Edna Orwick of Findlay led the event where a cafe teria dinner was served to guests including Andy Lucius Ernest Smith Charles Thompson W B Kimmel Glenn McKee Tracy Johnson Vernon Phillips Charles Walters James Wagner Mrs Harley Roynon and daughter Alice Beflayne Miss Aryuick and Miss Qleta Dible also attended.
About 70 Wyandot Red and Gun Club members met in the Knights of Pythias hall to consider joining the Izaak Walton League of America. Thirty seven charter members signed up. The league aims to curb stream pollution reforest areas and halt swamp drainage. Frank Leak of Wisconsin attended to support the measure. He also visited McCutcheonville to view a proposed fish hatchery site slated for Ohio this year.
Harold Greno aged 11 months and 3 days died Wednesday afternoon from spinal meningitis. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Greno of the C M Steen home on N Vance street. Survived by parents and sister Virginia Mae 4. Funeral at 2 PM Saturday at home with Rev Tozer officiating. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery.
Last Thursday A G Collet went to Tiffin to bring home his daughter Marcella from Ursuline academy. She was ill and diagnosed with appendicitis. At 4 30 that afternoon she underwent a successful operation at Mercy Hospital. Mr and Mrs Collet visited on Wednesday afternoon.
Special services held nightly this week except Saturday. Rev S R Dunham delivers his final sermon Friday night. The pastor will preach morning and evening Sunday. Strong interest and attendance mark the two week meetings with plans to receive several new members soon.
Mrs Homer Thrall and daughter Miss Eloise depart for Columbus to attend the Buckeye Press Association winter meeting on February 5 and 6. At the banquet Miss Thrall will speak on the West Indies before visiting Mrs Oliver Mackan of Plain City on their return.
Two homes on North street are quarantined due to scarlet fever. Hazel Snyder is ill as Russell Brown shows a light case and Genevieve Dow recovers from the fever.
Postmaster Newhard received a Washington notice to count mail for a period ending this week. The count will determine whether the Carcyr office gets an electro cancelling machine. Local staff have not been told how much mail must be handled to ensure the new device arrives.
Tuesday noon Snyder's coal truck pulled Bernard O'Brien's sled loaded with coal out of town. On turning from E Findlay to S Patterson, the sled skidded into the curb. The sled was damaged and the coal dumped, but no injuries reported.
