Carey High notes include a chapel program with soloists and quartets led by Lloyd Hill Patsy Laird and others. In athletics, Carey lost 29 to 30 to Sycamore, Reserves won 22 to 21, and Friday hosts North Baltimore in a key home game.
Paul Burson of Carey was named president of the Ohio Aberdeen Angus Breeders Assn at a Plumb Hall, Ohio State University, Columbus meeting on Saturday January 27. Other officers were Vice President Jay D. Miller Mechanicsburg secretary J. B. McCorkle Columbus and executive committee members H D Heckathorn Marseilles Harry Strine Waldo and Charles K. Swafford Eaton. The group notes strong interest in the May 1 Columbus sale and the August Champaign County fair show sale at Urbana, with about 600 breeders in Ohio and demand at a 20 year high.
A letter from A. W. Weigel of Cleveland, formerly Carey, reports 56 years of uninterrupted subscription to The Carey Times since 1887 when he worked for Hocking Valley Railroad in Carey. He praises the hometown news and encloses another year of subscription.
Richard Ewing was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps last Thursday. He completed navigator training at Hondo Texas and is a former Carey boy, grandson of Mrs J D Ewing of East Findlay Street.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday evening February 8 at the home of Mrs. W. H. Huston on E Findlay street. Mrs. Jack French Miss Dolores Wisner and Mrs. Paul Woods will be assisting hostesses.
The tax books are now open for 1942 real estate property tax with a closing date of March 20, 1943. Taxes for the first half or full year may be paid. Charles B. Martin Wyandot County Treasurer Karl F. Kraus Deputy.
The 1543 Carey Farmers Institute will gather in the high school auditorium Thursday February 11 to discuss increased production and preparedness. Afternoon sessions at 1 30 cover livestock crops home economics and farm machinery with group leaders urged to bring reps. A Victory Rally in the evening features Rev Marion B Tinsler Ada and H B Stout Columbiana County with an 8 o clock start.
Sister M Godoleva, housekeeper at Our Lady of Carey Seminary, receives a Red Cross transmitted German note from Sister M Leopialla in Prosselsheim Wurzburg Germany. It says relatives are well, nephews John Antoine and Henry in the war, and everyone is healthy. Sister Godoleva has been in the United States 11 years and belongs to the Franciscan Sisters of the Infant Jesus.
A Carey resident William G. Spackey 24 is among the first class of aviation cadets starting training at the Army Air Forces advanced flying school in Altus Oklahoma. Spackey previously attended air mechanics school at Sheppard Field Texas and worked for Standard Sanitary Co in Tiffin. After nine weeks of training in two engine aircraft cadets will receive silver pilot wings and commissions as flight officers or second lieutenants.
Harold Shull son of Mrs Agnes Shull is in a North Africa hospital with a broken right leg after stepping from a truck into a hole at night. His brother Cpl Clyde Shull, also in North Africa, learned of the injury from a fellow soldier and plans to visit when possible.
Important dates for rationing: February 7 is the last day for coffee coupon No. 28 for one pound. February 10 is heating allowance day for iron holders. March 31 is the last day for inspection of gasoline ration book holders. Last days for fuel oil No 3 and tire inspection. Sugar stamp No 11 also noted.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service will meet on Wednesday evening February 10 at 7 30. Mrs W H Huston leads devotions and Mrs J F Dible directs the program on Peace Just and Enduring with special music. All members urged to attend.

A compiled roll lists Carey County residents serving in the U S Army and related units. Entries include Capt Paul Claude Mussell at Camp Adair Oregon with the 104th Division Artillery and Pvt Delmar Worst at Camp Gordon Georgia among others with unit numbers and APO or postmaster destinations across Fort Bliss Fort Lewis Camp Pickett San Francisco Ava and Shreveport.
The Christ Lutheran Church men meet Thursday at 6 30 PM for a program and dinner. Dr E Schad from Shelby Lutheran Church will deliver the message. Music by the German band composed of high school students.
In North Africa Mr and Mrs A C Buckingham report a letter from their son Corporal Earl Buckingham saying he has arrived safely in the region and that he is well.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet tonight at 7 30 p m in the Legion hall to cut out and sew garments for the Red Cross. All members are urged to be present.
The Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters will meet at the K. of P. hall Tuesday afternoon February 9 at 2 00 o clock.
H F Davidson notes a lack of local interest in further civilian protection training. The state defense council urges armband issuance only to fully trained personnel, with notification for those entitled. He cites Allied successes as a possible cause and urges continued vigilance.
The Philathea Bible class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school met at Mrs. Myrtle Perkins home on N. Vance street. Mrs. L. L. Rowland presided and appointed committees for flowers, chorister, pianist, reporter, social duties, Red Cross sewing, and leaders for the year. The session opened with songs and devotionals and closed with a prayer.
Robert Vaughn of east of Carey appears in The Copperhead at Civic Theatre Fort Wayne February 4 5 6 and 7. His brother Pvt James Vaughn is at Keesler Field Biloxi and Pvt Joseph C Vaughn trains there as a meteorologist.
At the Clover Farm Store corporation annual meeting in Findlay Richard Frederick of Carey was reelected to the board. New directors include Milton Steininger Mt Cary M L Bishop Findlay J Narther Kalida OA Lewman Burgoon Harry Foster Blanchard and Charles Richardson Rudolph. Holdover directors are Horace Shaw Rawson D G White Findlay A G Kohls Columbus Grove Bruce Koons Green Springs and Robert Burton North Baltimore.
A second meeting for parents of prospective Cub Scouts will be held next Monday evening February 8 at 7 30 p m at the municipal building Hugh Hay of Marion will be present to conduct the meeting At 8 30 a second meeting will be held to train men for leadership on the Scout committee and Scouting in general.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran Church will meet next Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Clarente J. Hagley on Vance street. Mrs. Russell Gottfried will lead the lesson study titled The Power of the Word in Latin America.
Round and square dancing features at the Moose hall on Saturday evening with music by Buckeye Entertainers. Several local dancers and families expected to attend the social event.
Herbert Newhard Sr adds nine telegraph operators to a Carey roster, bringing the total to 51. The piece recalls past carriers Cyrus and Walter Gilbert and others, noting deceased status and former railroad affiliations, with a dated Carey Times clipping from 1888 and comments from Eugene M Montgomery.
Mrs Avery and Mrs Kenneth Baughman of Carey traveled to Goldsboro North Carolina last week. They were joined by Mrs Needs daughter Mrs Solomon Richardson who had been there since last August where her husband Pvt Richardson was stationed. Pvt Richardson transferred to Robertson Missouri after graduating from mechanics school in Goldsboro and will pursue advanced training. Last week Mrs Richardson Mrs Needs and Mrs Baughman left for Missouri where Mrs Richardson stayed near her husband. The Carey group returned home.
Carey Kiwanis club held its regular meeting Monday evening with Supt Earl B Driver presiding. An informal discussion on Ohio school time changes touched local conditions, but no definite decisions were made. Donald Parfitt, high school music director, sang two solos with Mrs Parfitt accompanying and led group singing.
Merle Buckingham shows a 16 inch wooden locomotive carved with a pocket knife in the window of W G Bradley. He spent more than 600 hours completing the piece, which features over 400 separate wooden parts.
The PRO club meeting with Mrs Alonzo Green near Carey was postponed from February 11 to February 18 due to the Farmers Institute.
Mrs. Lillie Karr will hold a sale of household goods at her home on E Brown avenue Saturday afternoon February 27. Further details to follow.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge No 656 will hold a regular session on Tuesday evening February 9 at 7 30. Members are urged to attend.
S A Wenner resigned last Thursday as general manager of the Carey Farmers Co operative Co after 22 years in that role at its annual stockholders meeting. H J Mullholand was named general manager by the board of directors. Directors include John S Fox H G Chambers Harvey Wonder A J Ruehle C E F Robison J H Jacoby G R McKee John Pahl Oscar Karg.

Good Citizenship tests for four senior girls. Infantile Paralysis drive sets a $25 goal with county benefit. Students also assist Victory Book campaign for military service men.
A daughter arrived Friday morning at the home of Mr and Mrs Edward Mathias on S Vance street. A son weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces was born to Mr and Mrs Lloyd Lafontaine at Mercy hospital Tiffin on January 29 and named Danny Edward. Mrs Lafontaine is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Wuebbe north of Carey.
The Carey Townsend club will meet at the public library Monday evening at 7 30. Jacob Nitrauer, president, invites all to discuss the Townsend cause.
Carey Temple No. 169 Pythian Sisters will hold two regular meetings this Thursday evening at 7 30 o clock at Castlehall. All members are urged to be present.
