A daughter weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces arrived January 28 to Mr. and Mrs. Karl Fleck of Champaign Illinois. She is named Karla Lynn. A 60 pound son was born Wednesday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller at the home of Mrs. Miller’s parents Councilman and Mrs. A. E. Donelson on Frederick Street. The infant is named Jon Keith. An 80 pound daughter arrived December 20 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Westrick of Port Huron Michigan at a Port Huron hospital. Mrs. Westrick is a Carey native and is the daughter of John Clark who works on the Ervin Wonder farm.

A coal heater exploded at the Frank Kitzler home causing a fire that destroyed one room. Frances Kitzler, a son, threw the stove out of a window to stop further damage as neighbors and the Wharton fire department responded, but the blaze was already under control.

Narrow Escape as Car Is Struck by Freight Train
Forrest Hurd of east of town narrowly escaped death Saturday evening when his car stalled on the Big Four tracks at the N Patterson street crossing directly in front of a northbound freight train. The engine halted after pushing the auto about 120 feet. Hurd escaped unharmed though the vehicle was badly damaged.

Mrs Bernard O'Brien of Carey region learned of Carl Ridge death Monday in a Morristown hospital after a cancer illness. He was 75 and formerly married to Lucy Bond of Carey. Ridge was a cousin of Mere O'Brien and often visited the area.
