The tax plan imposes a 5 percent Victory tax on incomes over 624 annually starting January 1. It applies to wages, dividends, interest, or net business income with postwar credits of up to 500 for singles and 1,000 for married couples plus dependent credits, contingent on spending on war bonds, insurance, mortgage, or debt payments.
Hart Green Post 344 Auxiliary held its monthly meeting and adopted an award for the U S Veterans Facility at Dayton. Six blind veterans receive Christmas gifts with cigarettes and candy provided. A mystery package was drawn by Mrs Scoarse. Next meeting on January 25 with Mrs Scoarse as chair.
Revival meetings are held each night at 8:00 in Swamp United Baptist Church except Saturday. Pastor Rev Walter Marks brings the message nightly. Miss Helen Barnes of Fort Wayne Bible Institute attends all week and next Sunday evening leading song service and delivering the message each evening.
Round and square dancing evening at the Moose hall features Buckeye Entertainers. Moose, families and friends invited for Saturday night dancing events.
The Carey merchants report the largest Christmas business ever conducted in the town. High stock levels and reasonable prices boosted sales while gas rationing and tire conservation encouraged shoppers to buy locally. Local merchants credit strong customer service and community effort for the surge.
Phil harmonic society members sell tickets for a benefit production of You Were Never Lovelier to be shown Sunday Monday and Tuesday January 3 4 and 5 at the Carey theatre. The promotion touts Rita Hayworth Fred Astaire Jerome Kern songs and Xavier Cugat orchestra with regular admission prices.
Memorial Evangelical church sets a full day with a 9 30 a m Sunday school for all ages led by newly elected 1943 officers and teachers. A 10 30 a m communion service features Rev C C L Allen delivering the sermon.
Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Beckwith and their sons Carl and Gien from Fruitland Idaho visited Mrs. Alletha Newcomer on West Findlay Street from Monday evening to Wednesday. They called on relatives and friends before heading to Chicago to visit Thurston Jr. in the Navy at Great Lakes. They had spent Christmas Day with their son prior to coming to Ohio.
Mrs W H Sloman thanks everyone for beautiful cards flowers plants and visits from the W B A Queen Esther class Christ Lutheran Sunday school church members and Rev Paul Padznick during illness.

I thank neighbors and friends of the S. of C and the C. of C for plants, flowers, cards, and fruit during my illness. Grateful for Mr. Bristoll's kindness and all who called on me. It has made me very happy.

Mrs. Thomas Reinhart received a cablegram from her brother Pfe. Ralph W. Fox stationed on Guadalcanal Island. He sent love and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year and stated he was well.
The Carey Moose lodge held a Catholic hall banquet Sunday evening with 75 attendees. Al Howard and the Buckeye Entertainers provided music while Rebecca Jean Lear performed acrobatics and Pahl acted as toastmaster urging War Bond purchases. The combined drive and banquet sold over 15000 in bonds.
The Methodist Church school elected officers for 1943 led by General superintendent C W Lanning and assistant Wesley Wonder. Mrs Forrest Baker retired as secretary after four years. Installation planned for Sunday at 9 30 with Lord's Supper at 10 30 led by Rev Donald W Cryer.
The Carey Kiwanis club inducted officers for 1943 at a Monday night meeting. Rev. Donald W. Cryer was installed as president by retiring president Earl F. Cline. Earl B. Driver and F. A. Galbroner were installed as first and second vice presidents. Past presidents Howard Snyder, Earl Burson, and George Newhard gave short talks. Next week S. W. McChesney Jr. will present Frank Way of Marion, new Scout executive for the Marion area, talking about scouting and showing Scout pictures.
The son born December 10 to Mr and Mrs James Lindsay was baptized on Sunday at Our Lady of Consolation Church with Rev Joseph Hern officiating. The child was named William James and sponsor was Mr John Greer. The father and grandfather W L Lindsay attended the service.
There will be an election of officers and other important business at the Catholic Knights of Ohio meeting this Thursday evening December 31 in the Knights of Columbus hall.
The J. T. club meeting scheduled for today is postponed to Thursday January 7 at the home of Mrs Minnie Fox located three miles northeast of Carey.
The JHE Telephone Operators express sincere appreciation for the many remembrances received during Christmas.
A mid winter revival at Memorial Evangelical church starts next Monday night and runs each evening except Saturday through January 17. Evangelist Rev Walter L Muller of Wal honding will preach and lead song as well as music. The public is invited and church members are urged to attend and support the effort with prayer. He is described as a sound Gospel preacher and strong singer.
Milk drinkers in 44 northern Ohio counties will pay a cent more per quart starting Friday. The price rise, announced by Dr. Edward C. Welsh of Cleveland, aims to head off shortages and prevent further diversion of fluid milk into other channels.
Christ Lutheran Church holds a special New Year service on January 1 at 10 am in the church auditorium. The message stresses human limits without Divine Guidance and urges collective worship and prayer to seek peace and goodwill as 1943 begins.
The Right Reverend Monsignor Sheen will appear on the Catholic hour starting Sunday January 3 and continue weekly talks until April 25. Listeners across WTAM Cleveland WSD Toledo and WWJ Detroit will hear the nationally known speaker.

John Dow son of Mr and Mrs D A Dow of east of Carey was advanced in rank to sergeant on December 18 while stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina.
Carey held its first practice dim-out Monday night from 7 to 9 30 with air raid wardens, auxiliary police and patrol room leaders in position. A fire department test run completed the realism. only two minor violations noted. Public cooperation was praised as the defense council conducts further preparations led by H F Davidson. A county wide blackout is planned for January with lights out in factories, shops, streets and homes to prevent visibility.
President elect Mark Karr outlined plans for the coming year at the December meeting in the K of O hall. Vice president Ruehle and an executive committee were asked to organize a Ladies Night for February 22. Committees will furnish the program and prepare the feed.

Carey stores will not close Thursday afternoon and will open all day Friday for New Year’s Day. Food and supplies for the New Year’s Day dinner should be purchased on or before Thursday.
The daughter born December 19 to Mr and Mrs Richard Kinn of Tiffin was baptized Sunday at St. Joseph's Church Tiffin. The child was named Carol Ann with sponsors Miss Mildred Kramer of Carey and Eugene Kinn of Tiffin.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Rothgeb express gratitude to Parl C Goff and assistant R F Wright for ambulance service during their son Billys illness and thank everyone who helped in any way.
Christ Lutheran Church sets Sunday school at 10 a.m and morning worship at 11 a.m for January and February.
