Victory Tax Starts Friday in Postwar Tax Plan

The tax plan imposes a 5 percent Victory tax on incomes over 624 annually starting January 1. It applies to wages, dividends, interest, or net business income with postwar credits of up to 500 for singles and 1,000 for married couples plus dependent credits, contingent on spending on war bonds, insurance, mortgage, or debt payments.

American Legion Auxiliary Seeks Gifts for Dayton Veterans

Hart Green Post 344 Auxiliary held its monthly meeting and adopted an award for the U S Veterans Facility at Dayton. Six blind veterans receive Christmas gifts with cigarettes and candy provided. A mystery package was drawn by Mrs Scoarse. Next meeting on January 25 with Mrs Scoarse as chair.

Revival Meetings at Swamp U B Church

Beckwith Family Visit From Idaho to Ohio

Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Beckwith and their sons Carl and Gien from Fruitland Idaho visited Mrs. Alletha Newcomer on West Findlay Street from Monday evening to Wednesday. They called on relatives and friends before heading to Chicago to visit Thurston Jr. in the Navy at Great Lakes. They had spent Christmas Day with their son prior to coming to Ohio.

Moose Lodge Bond Banquet Raises Over 19000 in War Bonds

The Carey Moose lodge held a Catholic hall banquet Sunday evening with 75 attendees. Al Howard and the Buckeye Entertainers provided music while Rebecca Jean Lear performed acrobatics and Pahl acted as toastmaster urging War Bond purchases. The combined drive and banquet sold over 15000 in bonds.

The Methodist Church school elected officers for 1943 led by General superintendent C W Lanning and assistant Wesley Wonder. Mrs Forrest Baker retired as secretary after four years. Installation planned for Sunday at 9 30 with Lord's Supper at 10 30 led by Rev Donald W Cryer.

Carey Kiwanis Inducts Officers for 1943 Year

The Carey Kiwanis club inducted officers for 1943 at a Monday night meeting. Rev. Donald W. Cryer was installed as president by retiring president Earl F. Cline. Earl B. Driver and F. A. Galbroner were installed as first and second vice presidents. Past presidents Howard Snyder, Earl Burson, and George Newhard gave short talks. Next week S. W. McChesney Jr. will present Frank Way of Marion, new Scout executive for the Marion area, talking about scouting and showing Scout pictures.

Milk prices to advance in 44 Ohio counties

Milk drinkers in 44 northern Ohio counties will pay a cent more per quart starting Friday. The price rise, announced by Dr. Edward C. Welsh of Cleveland, aims to head off shortages and prevent further diversion of fluid milk into other channels.

First Dim-out Proves Success in Carey Practice

Carey held its first practice dim-out Monday night from 7 to 9 30 with air raid wardens, auxiliary police and patrol room leaders in position. A fire department test run completed the realism. only two minor violations noted. Public cooperation was praised as the defense council conducts further preparations led by H F Davidson. A county wide blackout is planned for January with lights out in factories, shops, streets and homes to prevent visibility.
