The Y-Teens gathered December 20 for an ee mas meeting and sang carols led by Meek Carolyn Jacobs Mary Stewart Pesky Laing and Georgia O'Brien. They decided to send 100 for a CARE package. A gift exchange followed. On December 22 Y-Teen and HI-Y clubs joined in Christmas caroling.
The school Monday morning featured a Christmas themed program by the concert band. Students from Colonel Crawford and West schools gathered as the band performed for the body of the high school and yearbook photos were taken afterward for 1949.
In a balanced contest Floyd Pieracini led Freshmen with 9 points and William Bayes paced Sophomores with 7. William McCoy of St Louis, labeled the self confessed slayer of Cornelius Green in a Christmas Day camp car fight near Wharton, appeared in Mayor Obed Naus court and entered a not guilty plea to the murder charge. Deputies and witnesses described the fatal hatchet attack on Green, with four camp members named as material witnesses bound over to the grand jury without bond. Green's body was found with 18 hatchet wounds, and Green's wife has notified she cannot claim the body.
Carey tudge No. 1607 Loyal Order of Moose escorts Santa to the Wyandot County home for a Christmas party. Each resident receives a gift. A New Year’s party is planned for Friday December 31 with round and square dancing and live music by Ernie Baugher. Lodge meetings occur Thursdays at 8 pm. Publicity chairman Divine IV notes events.
Members and friends of the Eagles are invited to a New Years party at their hall Saturday night at 8:00 o clock. Dancington Himdal's Orchestra will provide music.

Wyandot county chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis launches a March of Dimes drive to raise at least 10 0000 dollars for 1949. Polio cases in 1948 included a 6 month old child and a 37 year old adult. one county death reported. Leo T. Jones, 1949 Chairman, Upper Sandusky urges 50 gifts of 100 dollars or more and asks residents to mail contributions now.
An open Wyandot county fair board meeting is set for Wednesday January 15 1949 at 7 30 pm in Upper Sandusky courthouse. Taxpayers may express views on enlarging the junior fair building to allow completion of the 3 year program from the 1 mill levy. The board will decide whether to proceed with expansion and if basketball use is incidental.
Walter H. Day purchases the Stutz News Stand in Upper Sandusky from Mrs. Dora Jarrell and will take possession Saturday January 1. The trade name Stutz News Stand is kept. Employees Janet Ball and Jackie Schwilk continue. Day previously served as deputy county auditor.
Burson and Cook of west of Carey sold two purebred Aberdeen Angus cows and a bull to Rosy Williams of Nevada a bull to Fred A Schultz and Son of Dayton a cow to Luke Broadwater and Son of Vanlue and a bull to Lloyd Ward and Sons of Wharton.
Miss Mary Knowlton fell from her bed on December 15 at the home of her nephew Austin Knowlton 124 Clay Street and fractured her left shoulder. She remained bedridden from an earlier injury when the new fracture occurred.
The Carey Band Mothers club will meet Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the school auditorium. A good attendance is desired.

Directors of the Lakeland club warn that skating on the club pond has caused damage to stakes trees and other property on the grounds. They state the past two years of permissive skating may end for all members if the destructive activity does not stop.

Columbus Ohio December 16 1940 state officials say architect Joseph A Gat t ozzi will bill the state about fifty thousand dollars for alleged glaring and costly mistakes in the plans for the three million three hundred thousand dollar Apple Creek State Hospital Gattozzi was dismissed as architect and state public works director George B Lowerg announced the intention to bill him Ferguson the state auditor has held payments to contractors pending an engineers report on the work Lowerg said he asked Ferguson to complete his inspection soon to avoid delaying monthly contractor payments and to prevent shutdown of the mental hospital project during the inquiry
Dr. Clyte Hissong state director of education urges expanded guidance in teaching careers in high schools and colleges. A state education report shows 8000 elementary teachers needed while only 939 will graduate in June from 46 Ohio colleges.

Carey Blue Devils lost 44 to 31 at Wharton in a seventh straight defeat period. Dean led Wharton with 19 points while Cole and Longanecker contributed in the late stretch. Carey reserves also fell to Wharton reserves 25 13 as Christmas break looms and a January 7 return with Richmond awaits.

In Garey the village inspector post formerly held by McLarkey has been filled by W J Lefferson. McLarkey had been appointed when Garey adopted the city manager system, after Jefferson left his long tenure supervising electric, water and sewer departments.
The Clover Farm Store in Frederick will close all day Saturday for New Year's Day. It will reopen Thursday afternoon and remain open Friday evening during this week's schedule.
