Carey Methodists Participate In United Nations Seminar

Mr and Mrs Cloyce Lanning Mrs Donovan Lanning and Mrs Robert Frederick joined a Carey group in the Toledo District for a United Nations seminar December 10 11 and 12 at the U N Building in New York They heard briefings by FAO United Church Women World Affairs Center US State Department and the Methodist Church They toured the U N and attended General Assembly sessions and committee meetings The Russian delegation spoke against a budget item but signaled willingness to compromise The gathering emphasized disarmament decolonization and development of underdeveloped areas with a hopeful view toward world cooperation.

Carey Blue Devils tumble again in conference losses

Carey High School dropped two straight games. River Valley defeated Carey 51 39 as the Blue Devils shot 57 percent from the line but only 39 percent overall. Oak Harbor beat Carey 51 44 with Mike Dasher scoring 18 and Beyer leading Oak Harbor with 15. Carey travels to Col Crawford Friday to try to even its conference mark at 1 1. no game Saturday.

Mr and Mrs John A McDaniel of 303 W North Street mark sixty years since their Christmas Eve wedding They lived on farms near Richwood where he taught school and farmed before becoming a building contractor in Richwood The couple moved to Carey in 1926 and he ran auto mobile agencies until retirement They have two sons two grandchildren and a great grandson with one son Robert deceased No formal anniversary celebration planned.

The Carey Band Mothers report that 325 persons were served at their spaghetti supper and bazaar on December 4, yielding a profit of 270.59 dollars. The bazaar contributed 55.80 to that total.

Wittenberg Freshman Receives Synod Scholarship

A Carey native, E. John Wetzel, attends Wittenberg University on a 650 Lutheran Synodical Scholarship funded by the Synod of Ohio United Lutheran Church in America. Wetzel, son of Mrs. Margie Wetzel, belongs to Christ Lutheran Church. The program funds Lutherans from ULCA synods aiming to enroll strong students in Christian higher education, with eligibility based on class rank and high school entrance exam performance.

Carey Board Reports School Building Progress

The Carey Board of Education details progress on the new high school gymnasium and remodeling. Sub floor is in, finish floor being installed, painting lighting and plumbing advancing in the gym area. Remodeling of the old gym includes sheet rock plastering openings and doors. Elementary interior walls masonry is nearly complete with tile work underway.

Cub Scouts of Pack 13 met at Christ Lutheran Church with parents. Each parent received a gift. The group then visited Wyandot County Home to present a decorated Christmas tree and sing carols with residents.

Elks Host Kiddies Christmas Party This Saturday

The Elks hold a free morning Christmas party at Carey Theatre with a 10 to 11:30 movie and Santa in the lobby from 11 to 12:30 for candy. Children of all ages invited. parents may join with younger children in the lobby at 11. A second movie runs 1 to 2:30 at Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky, followed by candy treats at the Elks Club from 2 p.m. for attendees and escorted kids.

The Carey Teachers Association met December 5 after school with Carl Cupp presiding. Mrs. Hendricks reported survey results showing over half of respondents desire parent teacher conferences and further study is planned. Committees were named for the February County Workshop and Myron Koch and Charles Shaffer reported on events in Columbus. A student council with 10 members was described, and the group adjourned optimistic about progress.

Icy Streets Blamed for Carey Traffic Mishaps

Several Carey incidents tied to ice on roads. Berhard DeAmicis, 19, struck a village light pole on Worello Street causing about 150 dollars in vehicle damage and 10 dollars to the lamp. Christine Straw backed into a parked sedan on North Street, $25 and minor bumper damage. Lawrence Mates collided with a parked car on Vance Street due to windshield ice, injuring no one. Other minor fender and bumper damages occurred on Findlay and South streets with no charges filed.
