Salem Defeats Carey In Basketball Game And Updates

Salem defeated Carey 124 to 12 in a Tuesday basketball game. Salem reserves beat Carey reserves 20 to 13. The Carey lineup included Logsdon and Karcher with substitutes Dunn Buckingham Mullholand Snyder and Ross. Christmas holidays run December 22 1942 to January 4 1943. New cheerleaders are Mary Orians Martha Orians and Rose Stoll. Three new cheerleaders were chosen by the student council. The junior class play Mammas Baby Boy was well received. The Dixie Dandy Dog and Monkey circus comes Friday at 10:30 with 5 cent admission. Transportation officials discussed the O D T order at Bowling Green with 200 attendees and a resolutions committee appointed. Delbert Woodford attended the meeting.

Lutheran Midnight Christmas Service at Christ Lutheran

Christ Lutheran Church will hold a midnight Christmas service at 12 o'clock Thursday evening December 24 replacing the usual 6:00 a.m. service. Christmas hymns and special music by the choir will accompany the sermon titled Christmas or Xmas and the public is invited to worship.

Vaughn Enrolled in Keesler Field Air Mechanics Course

Pvt. James P. Vaughn from Carey Ohio joins Keesler Field Army Air Force technical training unit after basic training. He will study 16 weeks on B 24 Liberator bombers covering maintenance fundamentals structures hydraulics engines and electrical systems aiming for active line duty.

HI Y Christmas Service Sunday at Carey High School

The 5th annual HI Y Christmas service will be held in the Carey high school auditorium on Sunday evening December 20 at 8 90 p m. The program features Carl Turnbell welcome notes, a Christmas message by Richard Lab, nativity meditations by Judson Frederick and Herbert Presler, music by the Hi Y String quartet, candle lighting, solos by Herbert Presler, a brief talk by Rev. Mail Pouch Disappears At C&O Depot

The mail pouch for the south bound Sportsman disappeared November 23 after being dropped to the ground at Carey. The pouch filled with first class mail was carried off by the train momentum and has never been found. A theory suggests auto occupants at Findlay Street crossing may have taken it.

Sons enlist at Bowling Green State University

Maurice Zahn, older son of Mr and Mrs Norman Zahn of Carey and a junior in liberal arts at Bowling Green State University, has withdrawn to enlist in the Coast Artillery. His younger brother Wayne, a freshman in pre engineering, has been sworn into the Naval Reserve and will continue studies until called to active duty.
