Last Thursday at noon the fire alarm summoned the department to G. W. Hickle’s tailor shop where a fire started from a hot plate on a wooden box. A coat belonging to Ed Gibbs, hung behind the plate, was nearly burned. No other damage occurred.

W H Mills of Detroit visited his sister-in-law Mrs W C Johnson after fleeing Alvin Texas where residents endured a severe August storm. They sheltered in a hay stack as winds swept through the area and a man was carried away by gusts. Mills’ brother tried to reach a cyclone cellar and was blown eighty rods from home. A rescued girl found along the Gulf coast had been blown two hundred miles offshore and carried to safety by waves.
