School Schedule Shifts After Monday Storm

A severe storm on Monday may bring classes to a stop Tuesday and Wednesday with school suspensions. Pupils and teachers expressed gratification over results from the Pearl Harbor Day bond rally, which raised nearly 6000 dollars in U S War bonds. The Junior Class play Plane Crazy received a large, appreciative audience, with praise for directors Sigs Harrer and Miss Greiser.

Carey Farmers Community Club Plans December Meeting

The Carey Farmers Community Club will meet Monday evening December 18 in the Kof hall, moved up a week due to Christmas. Entertainment committee members are E. E. Gottfried, Homer Clabaugh, and W. E. Ballagher, with Robert Brown, Allen Baker, and C. J. Walters on the feed committee. Officers elected include President Mark Karr, Vice-President J A. Free Christmas Show for Carey Children at New Carey Theatre

Carey Elks lodge members in Upper Sandusky sponsor a free Christmas show at the New Carey Theatre on Saturday afternoon December 23 for Carey and area children. Santa will arrive by plane and preside as master of ceremonies, with oranges and candy for every child.

Carey boys meet in Pacific fighting group

Male E. Thomas son of Clyde and Mrs Thomas near Adrian took part in the Philippines invasion. Sgt Bruce Luzader another Carey boy was with invasion forces and has met Male. Dale met Cpl Ralph Karcher of Carey on the Admiralty Islands.

Wounded in Action Alert For Virgil Orians

Mrs. Jane Orians of E North street received a telegram from the war department stating that Virgil W. Orians was wounded in action November 12 somewhere in France. He has been moved to a hospital in England. This is his second wound since September.

Sunday School Officers at Memorial Evangelical

Memorial Evangelical reports its Sunday School elected officers for 1945 led by Superintendent McClellan Coppter and Assistant Superintendent Walter Roynon. Arlene Robison is secretary with Shirley Jacobs as assistant secretary and Harry Bowmoon as treasurer.

Servicemen's Wives Club Holds First Meeting at Methodist Church

The Servicemen's Wives club held its first meeting December 8, 1944 at the Methodist church in Roncock. Mrs. Bame chaired, Mrs. Hosler acted as secretary, and members named a central committee to draft a constitution. Earl Greer post commander Tom Beckwith spoke on Carey Memorial park as a World War II memorial, with plans approved and a January pot luck social to seal charter membership.

War Bond Show at New Carey Theatre Promises Free Seats

The first New Carey Theatre war bond event will let buyers from the 6th War bond drive attend free on December 19 as seats are allotted. Later buyers after seats sold will receive passes to view before December 31. The theatre opens to the public December 20.

Cheryl Kay Hunter born at Finnlay hospital to Pfc and Mrs Richard Hunter December 6 at 450 am. Hunter serves in the T S Army in Holland. Pvt Philip Hall Killed in Action in Germany

Private Philip Hall son of Mrs. Ray Lang of Carey was killed in action in Germany on November 18, reports Delphos Courant. Telegram from the War Department notified Mrs. Charlotte Hall of his death. Hall, 31, enlisted April 15, 1944, trained at Camp Robinson Ark, shipped overseas in October. He was a member of Delphos Aerie of Eagles and the Methodist church. Survived by wife Charlotte Lang Hall of Piqua and two daughters Virginia Rae 7 and Phyllis Sue 3, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lang of Carey, a brother Elmer Hall of Greenville, and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Limer Stevicky.

Carey Faces First Snowfall With Severe Drifts

Heavy snowfall hit Carey starting Monday afternoon with rain turning to snow by evening and continuing Tuesday morning. A northwest wind piled snow in the surrounding countryside creating drifts several feet high. School was canceled and buses could not run Tuesday and Wednesday. Rural mail delivery was limited after hours on Tuesday. Roads near Heck's dairy were drifted, delaying milk deliveries.

Pvt Gernie Jacques of the infantry is back from 13 months overseas in the European theater. He was wounded in the right hand on D Day and spent time on the US Hospital Ship Stafford before treatment at Stark General and transfer to Ohio. He received the Purple Heart.

He has served about two years in the army.
