Bert Mitten is praised as accommodating and efficient. Laundry must be at the office by 4 o clock Wednesday.
The president's annual message covers the war, Cuba, and naval expansion. It calls for aid to Cuba after independence, a free government, and immediate military and naval build up. It favors a conference for universal peace, canal construction, and stronger postal and border arbiters.
A field letter from NLU 1, Co. B, 2nd Infantry describes camp life in Macon Georgia, weather cold, army logistics, and equipment upgrades. Troops report transfers to the 2nd Brigade, new Krag rifles, road building, and plans potentially moving to Timiaad Cuba, with officers well regarded.
Nolidas Diversions and allied routes announce a Christmas to New Year excursion fare. Tickets valid for travel across all stations on the network with a rate of one and one third the pound trip. A letter from Admiral Dewey to Mrs. Jesse Noss of Mt Pleasant Pa recounts the loss of her husband who fell in the Battle of Malate on July 31 1898. The note expresses deep sorrow and notes a daughter born after his departure who then died, with the infant named Dewey.
Mrs. Johanna Higgins born in Reading Pennsylvania on April 10 1815 emigrated with her parents to Stark County Ohio as a child. She married John Higgins in 1842 and lived in Newark Tymochtee Seneca County and finally Carey where she died aged 83 years 7 months 21 days at her daughter Mrs. David H. Wonder's home. Her funeral was led by Rev Dr Rexford of Columbus and she was buried at McCutchenville.
The outlook for the factories is upbeat with logs arriving, yards filling, and orders piling up across plans, foundries, and mills. Shipments for boat parts, handles, and oil well supplies are in high demand, while staves are contracted for and touring mill activity is busy.
A vintage advertisement claims Paros Balm soothes chest pain from a cold and prevents pneumonia by applying to the chest. It states a paste made with flannel and Paros Balm heals a back line in a few days and is sold by J. D. Ew og & Co., druggists.
A humorous exchange features Dussey asking Why not strike and Hardup listing seven reasons none. He cites a wife and six children as the excuse. The Tit-Bits style quip reflects workplace wage tensions with family obligations.
