Admiral Dewey Sends Sympathy to Mt Pleasant Widow

A letter from Admiral Dewey to Mrs. Jesse Noss of Mt Pleasant Pa recounts the loss of her husband who fell in the Battle of Malate on July 31 1898. The note expresses deep sorrow and notes a daughter born after his departure who then died, with the infant named Dewey.

Obituary notice for Mrs. Johanna Higgins of Ohio

Mrs. Johanna Higgins born in Reading Pennsylvania on April 10 1815 emigrated with her parents to Stark County Ohio as a child. She married John Higgins in 1842 and lived in Newark Tymochtee Seneca County and finally Carey where she died aged 83 years 7 months 21 days at her daughter Mrs. David H. Wonder's home. Her funeral was led by Rev Dr Rexford of Columbus and she was buried at McCutchenville.
