The letter stresses that report cards will be given Friday and urges parents to examine them, communicate with teachers, and ensure homework is completed. J A Newcomer returned home from a three week western trip visiting Idaho Oregon and California with his father eight five B Newcomer. They met Levi Schubert in Idaho T H Beck and family in Oregon and visited Dr Newcomer and Mrs J P Dickey in Lordsburg California. The journey included a severe Wyoming passage 20 to 25 degrees below zero and a six hour train delay. In California an orange ranch of three acres sold for fourteen thousand dollars.
Saturday marked the 70th birthday of Mrs C Moyers with a home gathering on North Yanceek street. Guests included Mr and Mrs Scott Tong Dr and Mrs L Moyers and daughter Maurine. Mr Moyers presented a new couch and several other gifts were exchanged.
Mr and Mrs F S England and family of Arcadia hosted a Thanksgiving dinner attended by Mr and Mrs A F Hartle, Mr and Mrs C S Chapibers and son Everett, Mrs William Pontius and daughter Esther and son Ralph, Miss Letta Hartle, Mrs F S Spitler of Kenton, Mrs Henry England and daughter Frances, Mr Blanchard and Rev and Mrs A A Thomas of Arcadia.
Mr and Mrs Charlies Hemmerley and sons Elmer Herbert and Robert and Mrs Mary Blinn of Alvada Mrs Do Leiss and Mr Clarence Ruch of Fostoria Mr and Mrs William Snyder and daughter Miss Lulu and Miss Mary Hall of this place and Mr and Mrs Glen Snyder of Crawford were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Elmer Wonder.
The Unity class of the MES will hold an Experience social in the Sunday school room tomorrow evening. Chicken sandwiches will be served and the event is open to the public.
The first quarterly conference of the Carey UB charge was held Monday evening at Union Bethel church near Forest. Rev. M R Ballinger and S D Findlay, conference superintendent, presided and spoke.
Crawford Chapter of Eastern Star attends installation of officers at Sycamore Friday evening. W J Newhard will be Installing Officer, Mrs Byron Egg named grand marshal, and Mrs G V Sutphen named grand organist.
Carey's life as a Big Four terminal ended suddenly last Thursday. Wise ones say the terminal idea may reappear soon in some form or plan.
Mrs Lee Ogg entertained the Wi modaubis Club at her home Tuesday afternoon. Guests included Mrs C F Pflueger Mrs A B Constien and Mrs Thompson of Sidney.
November saw thirteen marriage licenses issued at the probate office along with five Thanksgiving licenses. Tax collector O W. files opens for districts except Upper Sandusky and Carey. Obits include Henry Clay Schriver aged 73 from Kirby, pneumonia. Five Wyandot boys win trips to Washington in a corn growing contest. Governor Willis pardons I P Cammarn of Upper Sandusky for embezzlement. Divorce granted to Nancy Whisler from Nathan Whisler. Local mishaps include a foot injury to August Young on a sugar barrel incident. Will of Charles Hagenmaier and an OSU alumni banquet in Wyandot. Sycamore club planned booster meeting with speaker Owen A Charles. Deaths include Mrs. James Wise of Harpster and Mrs Magdalena Strasser of Upper Sandusky. Road program for 1917 outlined. paving and mud road projects proposed. Injury report: Robert Miller wounded hip while rabbit hunting. Legal notes on P R Grubb vs Hettie Starkey appeals. Upper Sandusky to gain a new Pennsylvania depot with plans for a brick station and attached park, cost around 20000 dollars.
Fireman G. W. Miel of the Big Four was injured Tuesday afternoon when a tender exploded from an engine in front of the depot. Dr. St. N. Zeis treated head and shoulder wounds and he was later rushed to Kenton Hospital by C. F. Sutter’s ambulance.
Miss Rosalia Regina Peter and Mr Osgar Victor Elchert wed at Our Lady of Consolation Church with High Mass at 9:00. The ceremony featured a double ring rite, attendant bridesmaids, and a full wedding program with organ and violin music. Over 80 guests attended a dinner at the bride’s parents home, followed by an evening oyster supper, dancing, and gifts of silver and glass. The couple will reside with the groom’s family near New Riegel.
Mr and Mrs Peter Krupp host a Thanksgiving dinner with guests including Mr and Mrs Leo Krupp and their son Malcolm and daughters Leon and Genevieve, Miss Dorothy Weaver of Findlay, Mr Charles Krupp and son Chalmers of Lorain, Mr and Mrs Otto Krupp and son Donald, and Mr and Mrs Clarence Krupp with sons Earl, Francis and William.
The Carey Mill & Elevator Co of Carey is formed and incorporated in Columbus last Saturday by H. F Graves J Ewing DC Henry Dr I N Zeis and W R Kurtz. Capital stock is $40,000. Henry to operate the mill with plans for an artificial ice plant.
At a regular Carey post G A R gathering last Saturday afternoon the officers for the coming year were elected. Homer Thrall became Post Commander, T H Smith Senior Vice Commander, Geo Huff Junior Vice Commander, Geo W Starr Quartermaster, W C Anderson Chaplain, and Matthew Thornton Officer of the Day.
Last Tuesday morning Dr J W D Southward took Karl Rothgeb to Dr Hartman’s office in Findlay where they performed an operation on him for furbinated bones in the nose and adenoids.
Mr and Mrs Dallas Humbert entertained Mr and Mrs W S LeMott and son Harl of this place Miss Dorothy Dargin and Miss Margaret Dargin of Springfield and Messrs David and Edgar Weber also of Springfield at dinner Thanksgiving.
