Thanksgiving services were held at the United Brethren church with Rev. Luther Spaid of the Lutheran church delivering the sermon on reasons for thankfulness. Ben-Hur debuts at the Valentine Theatre for one week starting Monday December 9. The production promises grand spectacle with chariot scenes galley sinking and Star of Bethlehem, while sticking to the novel’s broad, nonsectarian appeal. Six evening shows plus matinees Wednesday and Saturday are planned with mail seat orders available and remittance required with orders placed December 5.
A surprise party Thursday evening November 28 marked Angeline Dunishlaughs eighteenth birthday at her home one mile south of Kirby. Promptly at 7:45 PM about forty friends entered from Elmer McLain’s, with music by Angeline, Iva McLain, and Fred Wagner. Miss Gertrude Stanfield sang, Angeline accompanied, and refreshments followed at 10 PM. Angeline received many gifts including a gold watch from her parents and various porcelains and keepsakes from friends and neighbors.
Monday night council presided by Kemerley approved diverse bills including salaries for M O Reynolds Michael Gottfried Emon Frederick and others. Police judge Wonder reported two warrants issued. sidewalk repairs authorized. Complaints about coal carts on sidewalks prompt council to hire a special policeman to enforce sidewalk ordinances.
Johan Puchta came home last Saturday after working for a lumber company in northern Minnesota. He says he will not return there as he is not fond of life in that region.
George Vangundy aged 76 died at his Sycamore home last Wednesday night from apoplexy. He was born in Sycamore and is survived by his wife and three sons and four daughters.
The quarterly meeting will be held at the United Evangelical church next Sunday. Rev. A. Evans of Lorain will preach and also preach at St. Paul Sunday afternoon. Rev L. M. Boyer of Columbus presiding elder was here Monday and held a quarterly conference at night.

The C F Jackson Co of Findlay Ohio showcases a grand exhibit in Hancock County featuring a 30 foot tall statue on an 8 foot pedestal with a 16 foot circumference dome and a 9 foot angel, illuminated by electric lights. Opening display is on Thursday December 6 with 400 K of band music. store hours 7:30 to 9:30, no sales. The display includes large stocks of toys dolls and Christmas ornaments for the season.
Miss Eveline Denman died Wednesday morning at her home in Carey after fifty years as a cripple. Born November 17, 1833 one mile east of the city to Elijah and Lovica Lenman she lived through early frontier days when bears and deer roamed. She leaves two sisters Mrs Angeline Lockridge of Carey and Mrs Naomi Bixby of Napoleon, and a deceased brother. Funeral was Friday at two at United Brethren church with Rev. William Hook preaching. pallbearers listed and Spring Grove Cemetery interment.
The Nevada farmers institute will host a corn exhibit December 11 and 12 with prizes for Wyandot and Crawford county entries. Entries must include ten ears and be left at the auditorium by December 9 1907. prizes cover yellow dent white dent and other varieties with top awards from 4.00 down to 1.00.
Mr and Mrs Charles Kentfield and daughter Hulda spent Thanksgiving at Shawton. Mr Kentfield added to his thanks by selling several fine barred rock chickens which he shipped Monday.
