School Briefs Highlights Change and Illnesses

The activity period in the high school was moved from the 9th to the 5th period. Penny milk participation is up slightly. Civil defense activities engage many students and teachers. Don Parfitt and Mrs. Agnes Woods were out ill. Miss Mary McKinney of Iola joins the faculty replacing Leo Fisher in foreign languages and English. Teachers met to discuss O D T transportation tardiness and parent relations.

Soldier from Wyandot County loses leg in North Africa action

Pvt. Nelson G Frisch 27 son of Mr and Mrs C S Frisch south of Kirby underwent an above the knee amputation after wounds received in the second front action at Safi Morocco. He is recovering at Walter Reed hospital Washington DC as his fiancee Annabel Mitten and his parents visit. He left the States Oct 18 arrived Africa Nov 8 and is the first Wyandot County casualty to receive the Purple Heart along with six officers and six enlisted men wounded there.

Christ Lutheran Church Celebrates 84th Anniversary

Christ Lutheran Church marked its 84th anniversary with a special service featuring the senior and junior choirs and the sermon This Is My Church. Various church organizations presented their annual gifts. the public was invited to worship at all services.

Soldier sends birthday cake to mother on anniversary

Pvt. Harry Fabiani stationed at Hill Field Utah arranged Mathern's bakery to deliver a 10 pound birthday cake to his mother Mrs. Joseph Fabiani of North Patterson Street on November 25 at 12 15 pm for the family dinner. The cake carried 66 candles.

Eagles Dance With Victory Boosters Orchestra

Saturday night event on December 5 1942 features round and square dancing with music by the Victory Boosters five piece orchestra. Admission uses War Stamps priced at 5.00 2.00 1.50 1.00 and 0.50 across the evening from 10 30 to midnight.

Defense Class Starts Second Series in Civilian Protection

A second series of basic lectures on civilian protection begins Tuesday evening with topics including How and Why of Civilian Defense and Organization of Civilian Defense. The program urges all civilians to attend, answer questions, and report noncompliance. Sessions run December 1 to December 22 with topics on air raid warnings, services in a raid, bombs, gas, and first aid for war gas casualties.

Continuous Scrap Drive Promoted in Carey

Earl Green Post No 344 American Legion announces large public scrap containers will be in downtown Carey for the war effort. The containers stay for the duration of the war and all scrap including nails should be saved. Proceeds from sales fund War Stamps for community support.

Mrs Ollie Graves Undergoes Major Operation After Thanksgiving

Mrs Ollie Graves was taken to Findlay hospital in Bristoléll’s ambulance on Thanksgiving evening. She underwent a major operation Monday at 10 o’clock and is improving. A blood transfusion followed, donor being her niece Mrs Maurice Steinmetz. Present at the operation were Mrs Perry Presser Dallas Putnam Mrs Steinmetz and Mrs Ralph Heck with Mrs Graves. Mrs Heck stayed with her mother late Monday evening.

Child Drinks Coal Oil. Recovers At Doctor Office

Robert LeRoy Stroub, 15 months old, drank coal oil from a cup at home on Adam street. Mrs. Stroub took him to a local doctor's office where a stomach pump was used. The child showed no bad symptoms after the treatment.

The Carey schools band will perform Friday at 8:00 PM in the high school auditorium. A sharp northwest wind reduced Carey temperatures to about 7 degrees above zero Wednesday night. Snow arrived Saturday night, reaching 5 to 6 inches by Sunday noon, making heavy wet conditions and slush.

Glass Eye Shattered In Farm Door Accident

Joseph Niederkohr of West street was injured while installing a barn door track on a Carey area farm owned by Martin Frey when a log screw struck his glass eye. Fragments penetrated the socket and he underwent a serious operation at Mercy hospital Tiffin on Monday. He was brought home Tuesday morning in a Goff ambulance.

Wyandot County sets a 911000 quota led by William Olpp of Upper Sandusky. Carey’s share is 115700. Bonds sell in 500 dollar units at 2 percent interest, callable in 1963 and maturing in 1968. T. E. Pvt Samuel Newcomer Injured in Train Wreck Near Texas

Pvt Samuel C Newcomer 26 of Carey Ohio was seriously injured when two cars derailed on the Missouri Pacific Sunshine Special near New Braunfels Texas. He was in Brooke hospital Fort Sam Houston and later Brooke General San Antonio unconscious from a head injury. His wife Arlene Perkins had been in Oakland California. Other relatives and spouses from Shelby Sidney and Carey learned of the accident through radio broadcasts.
