A former resident of this city, T. J. Kinnard, recently left after a week’s visit and will begin a southern sales tour for the Douglas Shoe Company. He will operate in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana. While here he stayed as a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J A Gibbs.
Last Sunday night the union service was held at the M church with Rev Beaschler preaching. Next Sunday night the meeting will move to the United Evangelical church and Rev Neibel of Sycamore will preach.
About fifteen ladies and their families from the United Evangelical Church enjoyed a lawn party at Water Works Park last Wednesday evening. All reported a very pleasant time with M Reynolds pleasantly surprising the group by treating them to ice cream.

N Gilbert Whitmore of Eastondale Mass though seventy one years old is said to be the oldest weapon maker in the country. He once made and presented to General U S Grant a sporting rifle valued at 1000. Professor W A Henry of Wisconsin a leader in American agriculture has bought land in Wallingford Conn and plans to live there after thirty years in the Wisconsin State University.
Assumption Day celebrations at Our Lady of Consolation marked by large Toledo Catholic turnout. Special train carried about five hundred worshippers, including St John’s College students, with Low Masses, High Mass, and sermons by Fathers Schulte Weiss Guettelman Reiken. Confraternity enrollment exceeded three hundred. receipts exceed five hundred dollars for church treasury.
The fourth quarterly conference of the United Brethren church met last Saturday and Sunday with Rev L C Reed of Mation presiding. Communal service and home administering of the sacrament to Joshua Kennerley and Mrs James Hibbins are noted. all services drew keen interest.
Democrats meet at the township house on Thursday August 29 to nominate candidates for two trustees treasurer clerk assessor two justices of the peace constable and three school board members. caucus runs 2 to 8 pm. candidates must file by noon Thursday August 22 with Julius Zahn, committeeman.
Off fishing party headed by C N Cosgray Geo W Chesebrough Levi Haines Willis H Houk Samuel Beitler and James Beitler departed Tuesday for Platte Lake Michigan. They expect to be gone about ten days and hold high hopes for a big catch.

Mouser. Governor Harris appoints Sheriff Miles Keltner as a National Prison Association delegate in Chicago. The John Long will is read. Circuit Court docket notes and common pleas term dates are given. County teachers institute underway with speakers from Cincinnati Ada and Nevada. M E church baptism practices discussed. Marriages include Miss Ethel McEwen and Otto M. Dilts in Tiltin with planned move to Columbus. Land annexation petitions for Sycamore proceed. Robinson circus visit reports a broken collar bone from a fall, large crowd, and generally orderly conduct.
Rev J G Mizer returns from Butte after a train wreck delay and finds Basin excited by a new ore strike at the Eva May mine. Basin Progress notes an assay showing 43.8 oz silver 5.83 oz copper 8.1 oz lead and 2 dollars gold per ton, with vein widening since Friday. Stockholders from Ohio Pennsylvania and Allegheny city attend the annual meeting amid hopeful outlook.
City council met Monday night with Stahl, clerk, and Kemerley presiding along with Snyder Pahl Chese brough and Gregz. Bills were allowed including freight for coal shipments, arc lights, lamps, unloading and street labor plus legal services and warrant sworn.
Bernard S Murphy died at his Spalding home on a malaria illness August 3 1907 aged 38 years 24 days. He was born July 9 1869 in Hampton Iowa and taught school in Greeley and later Nebraska. He was married to Bernadetta Logsdon in Carey Ohio in 1896 and had seven children. The funeral was at the Church of the Visitation O Connor. He belonged to Workman and Woodman lodges with insurance to support his widow and children.
Rev. Father J. G. Mizer departed Monday morning to attend a retreat for devotional exercises and the consideration of important subjects. Half the priests in the diocese attend each year, and Father Mizer will return home on Saturday.
A ten day tent meeting will start August 22 at Wharton and run to September 1 Evangelist Webb of Marion will conduct services foreten, afternoon and evening each day after the 22nd No admission Pastor T J Carey invites all interested to attend
The Pythian Sisters will hold their monthly birthday social Thursday evening August 29 in Castle Hall. The event invites members to gather for fellowship and celebration in the designated hall.
The fifty seventh annual Ohio State Fair will run September 2 to 6 in Columbus. Exhibitors expect record space demand in machinery and livestock, with larger park grounds, new grand stand, and a women’s rest room. Daily features include harness racing, band concerts, balloon races, vaudeville, and Captain A Roy Knabenshue’s air ship flights. A Buckeye homecoming draws former residents back to Columbus, and county headquarters booths will be available on the grounds with details via T L Calvert.
The Chesebroughs met at Bigelow chapel on August 8 for the sixth annual reunion. A hearty noon dinner, prayers by Rev Moffett, and singing Blessed Assurance opened proceedings. Officers elected were President B Chesebrough, Vice President W E Cunningham, Treasurer Mrs S E B Shuck, and Secretary Mrs S N Shuman. An executive committee included G W Chesebrough, Forest Baker, Gut Chesebrough, and J H Hoy. A memorial for four recently deceased members was read. next year’s reunion will be the second Thursday in August at Riverside Park Findlay.
Early Mass will not be administered at Our Lady of Consolation next Sunday. Father J G Mizer will conduct an early Mass at Salem. High Mass remains at ten o'clock with singing as usual.
Last Saturday and Sunday the M E Church held its fourth quarterly meeting. In the forenoon the sacrament of the Lord's supper was administered and in the evening Rev Beaschler preached.
