148 Candidates File for Office in Wyandot County

Wyandot County voters face a large slate of candidates for village township and school posts at the upcoming election. A total of 148 people filed for various nonpartisan offices with 65 for village posts 41 for township seats and 42 seeking board of education positions. Notable candidates include Carey council hopefuls Charles Hall A E Constien Gerald Traxler and Paul Pahl and Wharton Clayton clerk John J McEvoy Ralph H Gibson Alvin Bowtwell Howard Wood Wayne Cole councilmen Harry Watson and Wayne Jenkins for the board of public affairs.

Race Program Planned for Wyandot County Fair 1949

The Wyandot county fair speed committee has organized a strong race slate with a fine track condition and a blanket trophy for each race. Herbert Conn First 1949 Polio Case in Wyandot County

Wyandot County reports its initial polio case for 1949. Herbert Conn, nine, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Conn, Nevada, is at City Hospital Cleveland diagnosed poliomyelitis after illness of more than two weeks. Franklin Fulk, ten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fulk, Wharton, is in Children's Hospital Columbus after polio was diagnosed in a Kenton hospital.

W. B. A. Meets at Homes for Summer Gatherings

On July 29 the W. B. A. met at Mrs. S. W. Pahl’s Newhard street home for a short business session followed by card bingo and a potluck supper. The group thanks Mrs. Pahl for her hospitality and notes plans for August 26 at Mrs. Richard Hunter’s home with a potluck to follow.

Mr and Mrs Wesley Wonder enjoyed a four day trip through southern and eastern Ohio visiting caves near Logan in Hocking County, the Campus Martius Memorial museum at Marietta, and Steubenville. They toured Schippenbrunn near New Philadelphia, the area’s oldest settlement, and called on Ernest Warther in Dover to view his carved locomotives.

Loyal Order of Moose Refuses Rare Blood Donation Call

Carey lodge No. 1607 in Lima declined a hospital request for a rare blood type after its sole holder donated within three weeks. A two to three month waiting period between donations applies, and this was the lodge's first rejection of a blood call.

Carey Defeats Bascom 6 to 2 in league clash

The Carey Grocers won their eighth of ten league games with a 6 to 2 victory over Bascom on Bascom soil. Dick Lab pitched a six hitter with 7 7 strikeouts and one walk to claim his sixth win of the season. Donelson cashed Bascom errors in the third to score Carey’s first run. Bland stole home in the fourth and Carey added four more in the fifth on a string of hits and miscues. Buckingham starred for Bascom with key hits and fielding plays.

Married Women and CYO Girls Tie Up in Memorial Park Game

Two all female baseball teams faced off at Memorial Park. The married women team lost 12 to 10 against the CYO of Your Lady of Consolation parish. Local Breeders Show Grand Champion Steer at Urbana

Burson & Cook, Aberdeen Angus breeders from Aberdeen show the Grand Champion Steer named Quality of B. & C. at the Champaign county fair in Urbana. About 80 steers from 4-H clubs and open classes competed in the annual Ohio Aberdeen Angus state show. Prince Howard II is the main sire of Burson & Cook’s herd.

The Carey Conservation League fishing committee finished the screen dam at Wrights farm on Elm Hills road. The dam will be ready for spring 1950 when spawning fish are released into the waters. Thought for the month emphasizes helping those who aid nature.

Park board and village council awarded contracts for a swimming pool and bath house at Carey Memorial park. Niederkohr Bros. of Upper Sandusky will do general construction for 33600 dollars, J F Dible of Carey handles plumbing for 11926 dollars, and Stephan's Electric Store of Upper Sandusky wins electrical work for 2468 dollars. Filmation work bids were too high and will be rebid.

Carey Kiwanis Picnic at Limestone Lake

Due to crowded restaurant conditions the Carey Kiwanis Club held its annual picnic on Monday August 15. Jack Reynolds hosted at Limestone Lake with about 20 members and guests enjoying a potluck supper. The club thanks Jack Reynolds and National Lime & Stone Co for organizing the event.
