A festival at the Beech Grove church five miles southwest of Carey is set for Thursday evening August 12 with abundant eats. If rain arrives the event will shift to the following evening.
The village council at a special meeting on August 5 awarded a $7,704.25 contract to Seagraves Co. of Columbus for a 600 gallon booster pumper truck, 8 passenger cab, over drive, 400 ft of 1 1 2 in hose with fog nozzles. Crawford township signs three year fire protection deal for 4000 dollars plus 500 a year thereafter. Delivery expected by November 1.
Registrar Jacob Nitrauer reports births and deaths for Ridge and Crawford townships and Carey corporation in June and July 1937. It lists numerous births with parents names and dates and adds deaths with ages and causes such as pulmonary edema arteriosclerosis cerebral hemorrhage fractured skull tuberculosis and other conditions.

The C. I C class will hold its annual picnic Friday evening August 18 at Riverside Park Findlay. All members desiring to go meet at the church at 6 30 and are asked to bring their own table service.

Miss Dorothy W Lamberjack daughter of Mrs Veronica Lamberjack of Carey and Michael LeRoy Payment of Toledo were married Tuesday at 9 30 AM in Our Lady of Consolation church. The Nuptial High Mass was celebrated by Rev Paul Vollrath. Bridesmaid Miss Marguerite Lamberjack and best man Francis Balyeat attended. A three course dinner followed for 40 guests from Toledo Delta Upper Sandusky and Carey. The couple will honeymoon next week and reside in Toledo where the groom works for Auto Lite.
The Most Rev. Karll Alter conferred the order of deacon on two diocesan seminarians at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Napoleon Katz of Nanticoke and Stanislaus Wojciechowski of Chicago received the deaconate after 12 years at the Polish SS Cyril and Methodius seminary Orchard Lake. They will be ordained priests by Bishop Alter at St Francis de Sales Cathedral Toledo at 10 30 am on Sunday August 15.

American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps hosts a lawn festival at the rear courthouse on Thursday August 12. City band Chicken performs along with sandwiches cake pie ice cream and melon. Serving begins at 5 pm with games prizes and rain dates Friday night if needed.

Lefty Parsell pitched well as the Packers crushed Stuckman and the Bucyrus nine 11 to 0. The offense totaled 14 hits, including a homer by Messmer and a long double by Wickiser driving in several runs. A third game is being arranged. no Aug 15 game yet.
Mrs. Minnie Zimmerman Meinzer of Upper Sandusky died Friday night after being struck by a Ford Tudor sedan driven by Thomas Miller at Crawford street and S Sandusky Avenue. The death followed injuries including a broken leg and fractured temple. Funeral services were held at Bender-Lucas & Son with Rev. C. F. Betz officiating. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery.
Hendricks thanks voters in Carey for support at the August 10 primary. The message acknowledges appreciation for the encouragement and backing from local residents.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation at Carey draws more than 6 000 visitors on opening day with over 1 000 arriving by train from Columbus Delaware and Marion. A large August pilgrimage continues through Sunday with major services led by Bishop Karl Alter and a detailed train schedule aiding travelers from Cleveland Lindale Elyria Sandusky Toledo Detroit and other cities.
An 8 pound son named Robert Eugene was born Thursday night to Mr and Mrs Edward Coldiron at Mrs Lida Rothge’s home. A 10 pound boy arrived Monday afternoon to Mr and Mrs Clarence Kennerley at their residence south of town.
